Kathi performing, alongside famous backup singer Claudia Lennear, at the Homewood Sessions (Dec. 1970). Jim Horn on sax. The featured performer was Leon Russell. This video was recorded in 1971 at the Vine Street Theater in LA. Kathi was 22 years old at the time. She and Lennear were part of Leon Russell & The Shelter People. The song is "Caravan." An extended line-up of performers at the Homewood Sessions includes -- in addition to Kathi and Claudia -- Don Nix, Chuck Blackwell, Jim Horn, John Gallie, Furry Lewis, Don Preston, Joey Cooper, Carl Radle and Sweet Emily Smith.
Timeline update: New historical information has been discovered since this video was made. On the B/W photo near the end, Kathi was probably 17 years of age versus 18 when the picture was taken. However, she would turn 18 years of age in September of 1966.

Lovely Kathi, stunning Claudia Lennear, and the MIGHTY Jim Horn on alto sax !!!
Gratitude for sharing a treasure.
This is the reason for the Internet.
Thank you.
Rip kathi McDonald.. beautiful voice
Amazing man !!!
❤❤ what treasure , Leon & all the other’s , real talent, real music , not like today ‘s rap !! r.I.p. Leon & all the rest ❤❤
Hey there's Claudia Lennear again. I know it's Mr.Russels gig and all, but lets say he also did a good job at picking the back-groundsingers. I think they all get notoriously undervalued, because their voices are an ecxellent addition to the whole performasnce. The same goes for Joe Cockers performances. I really appreciate his backgroundsingers as well !! Agree ??
Claudia was great. The woman next to her, Kathi McDonald, told me she had a lot of admiration for Claudia. That Claudia taught her a lot.
her presence can distract any tambourine player from keeping to a rhythm, as shown.
Kathi McDonald!
What an all-star band! Leon could certainly call on the best.
Claudia Lennear ❤
Still loving this
Amen
Sweet energy!
sweet Claudia
The great Jim Horn on Alto Sax
Doesn’t the horn player deserve to be mentioned?
Is that Bobby Keys?
Jim Horn 🎷
for over 50 years this has been in prime position in my head. Jim Horn. (Saxophone 2nd finest musical sound after the OW31.) Best sax piece ever. Of course perfection from Jim Horn. I also really like Don Preston's playing on this track.
Fabulous player with such a beautiful tone. The great Jim Horn played not only with Leon but with all the best❤
I thought Leon was so handsome
Can someone answer me this. Whenever Don Preston played on a set with Leon, were the camera crew instructed to avoid Preston? Then there was Bangla Desh, oh and Mad Dogs where the very talented guitarist was hardly ever seen. Which was a pity especially whenever Leon had a guitar in his hands.
Brown sugar
Is that David Crosby on the tambourine?
I think that is Don Nix, a Memphis cat ... he wrote the song "Going Down" - (and sings in a drawl very similar to Leon's )
More cowbell!
