Seiko SPB143 v Seiko SLA017 v Seiko SPB051/53. Seiko 62mas reissues compared. Which Seiko is king

- Опубліковано 24 лип 2020
- Hello folks! Today, I compare and contrast the 62mas re-editions since 2017, namely, the SLA017, the SPB053 and the new SPB143.
Since 2017, there has been 3 unique re-editions of the 62 Mas, Seiko’s iconic diver from the 60's. The sla017, the spb051 / 053 and the latest release, the Seiko spb14 series with 4 different colour ways. Sometimes, however, it's hard to tell your sla's from your spb's so today we're going to look at the differences between them and try to determine which one is the best purchase.
Categories:
We'll take a look under 5 categories, the winner of each category being awarded a 3, 2nd place 2 and last a 1 and we'll add up the scores at the end. Its just a bit if fun, I’m sure it wouldn't stand up to audit or anything.
The categories are
Case dimensions and styling
Dial, bezel and hands
Movement
Similarity to the original
Price and availability
seiko reissue, seiko62mas, seiko 62mas, seiko 62mas reissue

This is fantastic. Tell me, would you chose the 053 over a Mido OS 200C grey? Im finding that the specs do kill the seiko but it's lacking in the 'wow factor '.
Hey - great video. I knew someone else out there would have put these three together and you did it well. Thanks
Thanks very much 🙏
Awesome review, thank you. I will check out more of your videos
Thanks very much 🙏 I appreciate your comment
Thanks for this, just the comparison I was looking for. Especially between the the 051 and the 143 (I discounted the SLA because it's out of my price range). If only the 051 had a shorter lug-to-lug measurement! As it stands, I'll most likely go for the grey-dialled SPB 143, it's the best sized for my 6.5" / 16cm wrist
No problem at all, thanks for watching. The 051 is long alright, I can just about carry it off on my 6.75 inch wrist and i mostly wear it on an elastic marine nationale type strap to keep it tight. There are a lot of pluses to 143 anyway. Its much closer to the original and has a better movement. You can't go wrong. Just wish it was a tad cheaper.
Best value has to be the 051/3 series. And the domed sapphire is amazing on this watch. I also prefer the handset too. If you got bigger wrists, then it's the one to get. 4k on the sla is silly money. The new 141 /9 series is nice , but the markers and lack of distortion on the sapphire, hold it back. Maybe 4th time lucky for seiko to get it right then ?
Yeah I love the 053, I’m not a fan of the indices on the 14x series or the new Willard tbh
Well done , Great work. I bought the SPB053 when released , then I bought the bracelet from the 051, but i,m drooling over the SPB14 series, up Mayo.
Thank you 🙏 . Unlucky yesterday. I’m originally from Waterford so I know how it feels. Peter Kotsa just posted a vid comparing the 051 and the new 14x series. I genuinely think the spb14 series is overpriced compared to these great watches.
@@WonderofWatches we'll keep going for the one in a row, but on the Seiko subject I did buy two this year that I like and wear quite a bit, both seiko 5, SRPD 73 and SRPD 65 although lost a spring bar lately changing for nato strap .The spb is too close in price to the Sinn 104 A , which I love, I must check your recommender video, Thanks again Ben, regards Paul
Are the bracelets of the SPB143 and the SPB051 the same? Are they interchangeable?
Hi Ben. Greetings from Dublin! Very handy video as currently considering the Spb143. Subscribed. keep her lit!
Ha, 🙏 thanks Niall, and thanks for the sub, glad you found it informative. Ben
Great to tune in and get a local accent 🇮🇪 cheers for the video as these three do come into that same space where I was wondering myself which I preferred. But the big question: did you get these local in Ireland, and where can we see them in the metal?👍
@@kenohanrahan4745 hey Ken nice to hear from a fellow Irish man. I only own the spb151 and picked it up used (but mint) from ebay. I'm eagerly awaiting the new spb143 to come into Weirs in Dublin to try it and they say towards the end of this month. Its still a pretty hot watch at the moment. Thanks for you comment and for watching
I was in Weirs yday, they have the brown dialled tropic rubber strap version. SPB 147 It’s a gorgeous dial with a terrible date window. Looks like as it came out of production someone asked :”hey, was there supposed to be a date on this one?”, “Oh, crap yeah, here I’ll just cut one into it here...”..
@@kenohanrahan4745 I agree Ken, I'm not sure about some if the decisions here, i just don't think the applied indices, lume and date window match the rrp.
Great comparisons and I enjoyed your discussions on various finishes like the lume comparisons. I have to say that I'm a little miffed at the SPB14x's new 6R35 movement and the widespread variations in accuracy, qa/qc, etc. Not sure if that comes with the territory of being a new movement or not, but the SLA's 8L35 blows 6R35s out of the water for sure
I know. You are right of course. Its a high end hand regulated movement, taken from a Grand Seiko. I just love a 70 hour power reserve. Yes, I have seen some reports of inaccuracies with the new seikos, the new Willard too. Thanks for your kind comment 🙏
Thanks. Interesting analysis from a different angle.
Thanks Edmund, thanks for watching. Ben.
Owner of an spb051 i was rooting for the 053 but excellent points on the 143. Great video ! Now the question is it worth an upgrade. I am tempted
🤣 thanks for watching, I’m still an spb051 / 053 fan, could still be the better watch all things considered, I haven’t upgraded
Any idea what the SLA017 weighs on a sized bracelet?
Very informative video! Thanks! 👏 👏
Thanks Michael, appreciate it 🙏
Very interesting video. Yes, the SPB143 is quite a good compromise among the watches.
Thanks Giang Vu, thanks for watching. I agree entirely.
Don't make a video when u don't have the other watches to compare it to.. at least have the SPB143 to compare it side by side...
Great video! Will you be getting the 143?
Hey hakonig, thanks a million. No, I think I'll be admiring this one from a distance.
19mm lugs on the SLA…why Seiko, why?? I hate when companies do odd sizes.
Quality! Like your accent! More Irish-style reviews please! Much better than most of the channels here! Subscribed
Ha thanks very much, thanks for subscribing. Loads more to come 👍
If your gòing to do a comparison between 4 watches it should go without saying you should have the 4 watches in hand to do the comparison.
Seiko compromises quality control of 14X series. Price performance sbdc/spb05x are better in my opinion. spb15x (willards) are surprisingly have better QC. No issues I could find on the two variants of the willards I own. I own more than 30 Seiko watches in my collection and manybe 100's if the one I sold are included and I can see they are getting sloppy QC from SPB14x onwards except the willards and King Turtles and King Samurais and quartz/solar. I collect Citizen and other brands until Seiko sort this problems out.
vs. San Martin :-)
San Martin do a fantastic watch for the money
Case on SPB 053 is not zaratsu finished
You may be right, may be just a high polish but most of the main review site refer to its zaratsu finish, thats not saying they get it right either 😉
@@WonderofWatches Seiko mentioned it in their own press release announcing the watch in 2017. "The watch sits perfectly on the wrist and the Zaratsu polished line on the case side adds a touch of contemporary refinement." What would they know I suppose?
@@MrBun9l3 there you go then, thanks for the clarification
