At 22 years old and working at a fish store for a year this is what I needed to hear, not because I was anywhere close to giving up, but to further invigorate my passion for fish and everything in life
Your passion is infectious, I’ve already looked into getting a storage container/ ware house this week for breeding fish and most importantly, sharing it all with people and children. Thank you for your boundless inspiration
I've tried make a comment since yesterday on this video! Just reading the comments and the outpouring of love for you and this hobby touches my heart..it is a special kind of joy that each and everyone of us has felt over the years! My story is much the same.. when I was six, I thought I was the luckiest girl in the world because we bought a house along the Broad River in South Carolina! My grandfather encouraged me to love nature and taught me to always be kind and to nurture all of God's creatures!!! He would take me fishing and let me keep a fish every once in awhile or the minnows leftover ... It wasn't long before my grandfather decided there's a special place he wanted to show me.. I remember the first time he said "today when we go out I have a special place we're going to go to." My grandfather was the one that introduced me to the magical place caledl the pet shop.. we would go to the mall with my mother and grandmother. He would sit on the bench outside while they shopped their fancy department stores and where he could keep an eye on me while I pressed my nose on every aquarium in there!! I can still feel the exhilaration of how it felt to be in that Pet shop!! I wanted fish and a turtle so bad! This was in the 70s and they outlawed turtles before I was able to get one! Living along the river it wasn't long before I was finding my own baby turtles, catching fish and crawdads! My mom decided she had got the wrong baby at birth because I was such a tomboy! And my grandfather loved it!..... I remember the first time I watched your videos Father Fish. I heard all the wonderful sounds of the Pet shop in the background, I even remember what my first comments were about! I felt that feeling that I had as a young girl!! It was that magic, it was the joy that I felt over 40 years ago! My grandfather was wonderful! We always did projects together..We spent hours preparing a glass box so that one day I could walk into that pet store pick and take something home for myself! Needless to say I was hooked! my mom and grandma panicked and told me to wash my hands every time I came out of there.. and that I would catch a disease(that was their way of saying they didn't have time to fool with me and these critters) 😂😂😂 my grandfather with a twinkle in his eye.. would tell me none of that was true!!😂😂 It didn't take long before it was out of my Grandma and mother's hands, because in the end he was the one that made the decisions and allowed me to bring home my first goldfish. He told me to take care of that and next time he would allow me to get some swordtails or some guppies my eyes was on a blue gourami and the African frogs 😍 !the only folks that can understand this excitement is all of us here! All the sudden I would do any chore you needed because I got a dollar allowance every week.. and I was on a mission 🐟 it wasn't long before I got my first aquarium from Santa Claus 😂 and a parakeet ♥️ when I heard your shop in the background it took me back. And I have been in love with @Father Fish ever since! Of course me like so many others have never gotten over This Joy and love (that quite frankly my Dad tried to squash!) But my grandfather would never let that happen! I know I'm rambling! But these were such special times in my life! I always felt lonely, and everything in that pet shop filled the hole in me that nothing else could! He bought me a biology kit when I was ten! And encouraged me to read and taught me how to research and learn about the animals I was allowed to keep!! I can remember looking at the tail of a minnow underneath microscope! He bought me my first set of encyclopedias and every week I got to read national geographic!I would go to the pet shop and I would memorize everything I saw.. I wore those encyclopedias out! And when I found out you could get books at the library about this subject I would beg to go to the library every day! It was never any issue to want me to learn to read! I don't know where I'm going with this comment... All I know is for years after he passed and my parents got divorced.. That hole that I felt started creeping back in.. I got caught up in the world and fell to the ways of addiction! I have three years clean on August 17th! Although I was sober... I felt empty and wasn't finding any joy in the things I loved anymore! I was definitely dry and I was dangerously isolating. It has been years since I had any animals except for my dogs! And a friend of mine brought me this betta it was in a 1 gallon container.. and I picked up my phone and googled bettas... All the sudden that feeling, that magic and that Joy started slowly creeping back in. I watched all these amazing videos on fish and of course one of the first UA-camrs I found was Lucas. he said to checkout Father Fish...When I did and I heard all the wonderful sounds of your pet shop and listened to you speak I felt that love again and I could tell by the way you spoke the love that you truly have for our hobby!! And I had to know more! All the sudden this man with this wisdom with the delightful sounds of aquariums bubbling and birds squawking in the background... I'm trying to think of the right words.. it's almost that feeling of coming home! All I know is it's been an emotional week... And an emotional two months. You and this community have helped me so much.. more than you will ever know.. thank you for helping me reminisce about how I got here today! Someday I will share my whole story but for now I'm thankful for the healing that is happening for me today!! And it's all because of what you're talkin about in this video! Much love you Father Fish and to our "fish shoal" so much love and blessings to all. Thank you all for allowing me to be part of the beauty that we have created in our community here!! God bless!!!♥️🌿🐟🌱🙏
Thank you for sharing your incredible hobby/Fish Room! It will be an honor to get some of the fish that you are offering and sharing for my own fish corner in my hobby room! What a beautiful video Father Fish! Thank you so much for sharing! 👍🌿🐟🌱🙏
It’s always been my dream to open my hobby room up for all. I love breeding them so it’s always been my dream to bring in new fish. Teach people how to look after them, and rich or poor help put fish in homes. If people had excess pumps or filters drop them off. If people need one but don’t have the money they can take a used one home free. A place like that. Not to make money but to help grow the hobby and help each other out in the community. Maybe do some UA-cam videos on how to build your own filters and tanks for pennies on the dollar out of stuff most have hidden in a closet. Hopefully one day.
Yur words bring back my childhood memories and rekindles my passion for growing fish...thank you for everything yur doing❤...may you live long father fish!!
Dear Father fish, I have been wondering where you grew up, and I was pleasantly UNsurprised that you spent some years around the Chesapeake! No one squishes their vowels like they do in Maryland. I lived in Baltimore as a child, both my parents were from Baltimore (my dad was from Dundalk). I'm also grateful to have been able to explore the bay, and the lakes, rivers, and ponds like Loch Raven, the Potomac, and Muddy Creek.
You are so admire Father Fish..Happy 80th Birthday to you and many more. Only have 4 tanks...mostly guppies, bettas, cory catfishes and platies. Only been in hobby for 2 1/2 years so far.
I think the Internet is bringing the aquarium business back to the hobbyist. All the local fish stores in my area are closing and have been for years. Thank you Father Fish for your continued inspiration! Challenge accepted!
@Father Fish- because of you, i now have 5 tanks and it has become my joy. I will be gone for 6 days though and i worry about their wellbeing so i am trying to get these tanks up and running on their own, the Father Fish way, before i have to leave
Oh father fish, you took me back also not only by watching the fish and the plants in the aquarium behind you but the story you told of a little boy going out in nature and catching animals and bringing them home. that was my worst trouble that I got into around the age of nine and 10 and 11, I wandered off into the wilderness and to the forest following the creek into the woods! oh without supervision and I would bring home Little animals. I even caught some fish out of a creek one day and brought them home and didn’t know anything about oxygen and filtration and within hours they were belly up! but I brought home many different critters as a child but I never brought home any snakes, ha ha . I turned over Roxson pieces of wood and caught some salamanders one day and brought home a black one and a red and white striped one I believe.I guess that’s the girl that’s in me. Frogs and salamanders and made a terrarium. Lol oh Father Fish you have touched my heart today and I shed a tear reminiscing with you. Thank you so very much. It is an honor and a pleasure knowing you. Question: what do you want for your 80th birthday? 🎁 💝 Love Susan “ touching lives one fish at a time”
Dear Susan. I have the love of many friends who have come into my life these past 12 months. YT has given me the satisfaction of encouraging countless people on their fish keeping journey. I trust the love of Jesus flows into those lives who need his healing. Many broken people have come into these pages. Many have been touched by the kindness and strength they have found. All of that is gift enough for me.
Thanx for sharing. You are and will always be an inspiration to this hobby but I want to call it a lifestyle. When times change i want to travel to your shop and shake your hand. As a songwriter once said: Don´t worry, Be Happy!
I agree! A lot of my children’s friends love to come by just to have a look at the fish tanks . It’s great to see the children so interested in learning about Fishkeeping instead of constantly playing video games. 👍🏼🐟😀
Yeah, I shudder when I realize that a ton of children/teens like "artists" like Billie Eilish, Miley Cirus and Gaga... So freaking superficial, shallow and depraved... I pity them, no wonder depression and suicide is running rampant among them, they don't know how to truly live.
Kaisen Swartz Agreed! I play a lot of Motown and oldies but goodies even 80’s ballads for the kids and they love it . That’s when music had a true meaning. I believe my kids may be the only 8 and 9 yr olds that know the words to songs like Have you seen her or Nothing’s gonna stop us now ( from the movie mannequin) lol .
@@allintanks9865 You're doing your kids a great favor. 80's songs strike a certain sentimental/emotional cord within people. The music was for extroverts, outgoing, happy and daring people. No depressing and deprived like today. Although, I'm born in the 90's, Romania was 10 years behind with the music after communism fell and got to listen to some of the blissful 80's music. Best thing you can do for your kids is to keep them away from TV and the Phone as much as possible with other, in reality things. Best of luck to you and your kids mate. Cheers.
Your words remind of me when I was younger. But I didn't have the good fortune to be close to a river or swamp. Instead I've caught everything from crickets, lizards, snakes, spiders, stag beetles, mantises played with snails... It was as you say, very fulfilling, connecting you with the wonder that is nature. Steve Irwin was a hot shot at the times on Discovery Channel, he was my hero and will forever be. The fauna here in Eastern Europe is boring compared to the Americas, Africa or even Asia, but it was safe, there are very very few animals that can kill/hurt you. Yet, not everyone can go on the path they most like, life is like that. With this new aquarium that I want to build, I want to keep that part of my childhood alive and am delighted that someone of your age can still feel and recall memories of more innocent times. Happy birthday Father Fish! May you reach 100 ! We are all lucky to be you're contemporaries and thank you for sharing!
Oh yes. My aquaria are joy. They have been since before i can remember. My mom say's that ever since she put me in front of my grandfathers aquaria (MTS seems too be a genetic issue) I was immediately hooked. My grand father gave me my first tank on my 5th birthday. Feb. 19 that will be 37 years. By now it is pretty beat up. I really had to replace the front glass twice. And no longer has it's original cover. I have had many others en likely will have many more. But this one is going to be with me and running untill it either is destroyed somehow or i can no longer take proper care of it. It is in my bedroom. I set the light too switch on early on when i wake up it is with a smile remembering the man who's guidence in those first years brought me so much joy in life. And it lives on i have no children of my own but the latest adition to our family is a very cute an happy boy he happens too live in the same street. And allready enchanted with the colorfull fishies.
Wonderful Maurice. Be sure to give a tank to the little boy on the street where you live. I remember the man who gave me my most precious tank. It was the same tank his father gave him 75 years earlier. The tank is now in an Aquarium museum in Los Angeles. These are the times our lives are built on. Father Fish
Father Fish if i make it to eighty, 'and am able to do what you can, i would be delighted. Your knowledge and wisdom together with your nature have inspired me and many others to get back into the hobby or learn new things for those already in the hobby. I've always arrived home from work and like to chill for an hour or so and now i basically tune in to your stream and do just that. so thanks
You are an inspiration to all you are the God of fish 🐠.Thank you for always teaching and sharing your knowledge with all a us and for being such a beautiful unbiased man.. Happy birthday Father Fish you really are a awesome person.
Reminded me of my own youth living on Long Island on the 1960s. We would frequent beaches and fishing piers and I would bring home various fish and inverts. Of course back then we only had Metaframe tanks and you could not keep sw in those ss tanks. My dad was lucky enough to find a home made all glass tank for me so I could observe these fascinating creatures.
Awesome..MR.FATHER FISH already know..the meaning of HAPPYNESS..thanks alot MR.FATHER FIST..wish YOU good HEALTY & always HAPPINESS..good night father fish.
Great topic! Not very often discussed on UA-cam. Been really enjoying your content. I run a small aquarium business for foster homes and youth homes for youth with addictions and behavioural issues. The tanks are very therapeutic for the kids
Enjoyed, by title wished more description on amount of dirt under sand, and more videos of sand beds themselves, both from side close up focused, and from above. This was awesome plants and description of tanks that have sand beds, real neat... Just would like close-ups of sand and more description of beds, similar to you drscription of water.
You realy managed to touch where it went clean in. Your video made me smile more and more the longer I watched. I was aware you aimed, and let me tell you this, you Naild it!! Overwhelming, it made me daydream there. , hahaha (true) I thank you many times. It was so little of >YOU< however it meant a lot to us! MORE FF :)
nice vid, tank raising shiners to feed my cohab florida banded water snakes, some challenges as the snakes appetite stimulation prefers the fish but deplete bvotamins in the snakes as well as temps rising and health and population declining so i wont feed them to my snakes yet they get bored of mice yes even mice scented with fish smell which is sometimes only way they go for it.
No outrage here…started at 11 and now I’m x years old and still planning my dream-tanks for my dream house…….zebras will have to be in my tank, they were my first fish I ever bought….as a kid, so fascinated with the fact that they had this design, the “Black&White” stripes
I get "sharing" those fish selling them, but how do feel about them dying in their new environment? I think I know, and you're trying to address it. Thank you!
Karunagan, For one or two fish in a tank the easiest way is to remove them by hand. Use tweezers and pull them off. Add a little bit of salt, about 1tsp per 5 gallons to the tank. If you have a pond infestation you need a chemical treatment. There are many. Talk with your local farm store about the proper treatment.
I'm sorry, I'm not a consistant viewer of yours. So I have no idea if you have answered this before, but during the 70 years you have been in this hobby, have you ventured into the saltwater side at all? If you haven't already, now has become the best time to do so. Saltwater used to be nearly impossible, but now it has become easier than ever. I'm more of a freshwater guy, but the joy saltwater has brought to me recently has had me excited to share how doable it has become.
@@FatherFish That's awesome! If there's anything that I don't like about saltwater, it's the frequent testing. But this frequent testing is also what made the hobby possible. :P
Why am I crying right now?🥹 Sir, thank you for sharing your story and your wisdom with us. You are a treasure. I hope to someday be able to help others in the same way you've inspired so many in our hobby.

Cheers.
Absolutely!! Find some little tanks to give children and help them set them up.
Kaisen Swartz Thanks so much! I definitely limit all those things . So very nice talking with you. Cheers 👍🏼🤗🐟
Thank you Kaisen. Your words are jewels in my day, glittering, glowing and inspiring.
What a beautiful share! Thank you!!♥️🙏🌿🐟🌱

So nice of you
Reminded me of my own youth living on Long Island on the 1960s. We would frequent beaches and fishing piers and I would bring home various fish and inverts.
Of course back then we only had Metaframe tanks and you could not keep sw in those ss tanks.
My dad was lucky enough to find a home made all glass tank for me so I could observe these fascinating creatures.
GREAT memories.
Beautiful memories!!!♥️🙏🌿🐟🌱

Great topic! Not very often discussed on UA-cam. Been really enjoying your content. I run a small aquarium business for foster homes and youth homes for youth with addictions and behavioural issues. The tanks are very therapeutic for the kids

Everything you have said in this video defines so much of what I love about this hobby and what it can be. Thank you.
Thank you Duncan. From the heart.
At least 100 videos about this on my channel./

Happy Healthy and blessed Birthday and many more to come 😊
Thank you John.
@@FatherFish you're welcome 😊
nice vid, tank raising shiners to feed my cohab florida banded water snakes, some challenges as the snakes appetite stimulation prefers the fish but deplete bvotamins in the snakes as well as temps rising and health and population declining so i wont feed them to my snakes yet they get bored of mice yes even mice scented with fish smell which is sometimes only way they go for it.
try catching brackish killies in a trap.
Brilliant
Great video 👍

No outrage here…started at 11 and now I’m x years old and still planning my dream-tanks for my dream house…….zebras will have to be in my tank, they were my first fish I ever bought….as a kid, so fascinated with the fact that they had this design, the “Black&White” stripes
l hope good times for you
And for you my friend.
Happy birthday in advance 💞🎂
Thank you in advance Vivek.
I get "sharing" those fish selling them, but how do feel about them dying in their new environment? I think I know, and you're trying to address it. Thank you!
Precisely
Where did you live when you were getting fish in the Chesapeake Bay?
On Kent Island, Cox Neck creek.

Hello father
Please help me, how to remove lice in gold fish.
Karunagan,
For one or two fish in a tank the easiest way is to remove them by hand. Use tweezers and pull them off. Add a little bit of salt, about 1tsp per 5 gallons to the tank.
If you have a pond infestation you need a chemical treatment. There are many. Talk with your local farm store about the proper treatment.
Thank you 😊
Happy Soon to be 80th Birthday.
Appreciate your good wishes Jennifer.
Agree absolutely. I maintain balanced salt water systems that maintain everything put in them, corals, fish, inverts, and plants.
@@FatherFish That's awesome! If there's anything that I don't like about saltwater, it's the frequent testing. But this frequent testing is also what made the hobby possible. :P
@@duncandonuts5268 I test very infrequently. Generally when a customer asks me to test their water I talk with them instead about their tank.
@@FatherFish Oh. So only test the water if I see a problem? My reef tank is only 20 gallons.
