    This is what I love... even a very experienced person can make a new mistake on occasion. Some people would pretend everything is ok and never even share this kind of stuff, trying to keep up some false image of perfection. But you decide your learning experience should be shared... and that's beneficial to everyone. This is what commands respect!

    Patience is a virtue. We all want everything done “yesterday”. As you mentioned it’s all of us especially in the fishkeeping hobby. I hope this recovery goes well and as quickly as you need it to. Most of us don’t video our failures and subsequent recoveries. Thanks for this, great information.

    Excellent video, and you did absolutely wonderful!
    I must say i kinda like that it was a personal error rather than manufacturer error, it allows us to learn more while understanding what went wrong, why, and discover how to fix it. Rather than the simple solution of just replacing the old with the new such as if the company sent out a new one.
    As a dedicated hobbyist with my tanks, crafts, and flowarts there is a lot of trial and error we can push through before pointing fingers at the products .
    Being an active dumpster diver I've also come across way to many things of high value returned and tossed saying "damaged" or "doesn't work" that only needed a brain cell and minor tweak and works fine.

    Hey, I saw you changing lights and wavemaker settings using an app on your phone. Could you please drop a video explaining how you set up the automated system? If you already have one, could you please drop a link? Thanks
    About the plants- they don't need a lot of water, certainly don't need old aquarium water. A little bit of light and moisture will keep them alive for several days

      Yup, that link is in the card at top right corner and linked in the description below the video. 😁

    Hey kev, I just got my aqua decor back ground. Thanks for the discount code . I got a ultra flex and wanted to know did you cut holes and use the mesh they provide while your intakes are in the back? I use 2 fx6's and 2 wave makers. I'm gonna put a wave maker in back also. I didn't know where else to ask you so I picked this video.

    • @KaveManAquatics
      @KaveManAquatics  Рік тому

      Congrats on your purchase! I haven't used there new mesh backgrounds yet but i hear they're great! But no, you dont need to cut any holes. Water (and detritus) will be pulled behind the background from the sides and you wont have a problem keeping the water crystal. Here's a video I did about my intakes being behind the background - ua-cam.com/video/EqRIzcvaJ6U/v-deo.html

    I’m skeptical that the lack of flow is what caused your sump plants to die. There are plenty of filterless tanks out there with zero flow and the plants do fine.
    There’s probably another reason for their demise. For example: do you have a light for your sump?

    • @KaveManAquatics
      @KaveManAquatics  Рік тому

      No lights under there…when it all busted up, I didn’t even bother putting any lights under the tank.

    Speaking from experience... silicone is a horrible choice for a background hold. After trying and trying and trying on my 300 gal tank, I opted to use gorilla glue (clear). I glued it to the back and let it cure. 5-6 years later I had to move my background from 300 to put into my 75 and glue came off in a way that silicone would. Mind you that my background from universal rocks is negatively buoyant and is made of rubber type material. Exact glue I bought is gorilla clear and it smells like something you would not wish upon your worst enemy but when it cures.... it stays. Only problem is that despite the fact that its clear, under water it cures as white but honestly after using like 10 GE silicone tubes that all failed to hold over many times of draining tank, I was so fed up that simply did not care anymore. 5-6 years in and I dont even pay attention to it anymore.

    Maybe a little help Kev? New tank fish in cycling, Nitrite between 1&2 Nitrate between 10&20 using old filter from fish shop, stability & prime. On day 5, am I safe to keep daily dosing? Water change re-dose? No ammonia, 7.4ph. lost two in the 5 days 😕

      Sorry you lost them. Remember 1 dose of prime detoxifies 1ppm of ammonia and nitrite. So if you're reading 2ppm give them a daily double dose. (safe up to 5x dose) Just make sure you have very good surface agitation for oxygenation. Dont water change yet until you reach 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite.

    During the first minute and a half of the video, did anyone else besides me keep turning around and looking behind you whenever a shadow passed by the reflection of the door on Kev's tank thinking it was a reflection on your screen and someone was behind you? Or was it just me?? 😁

    The backgrounds seem pretty big and I prefer the natural look would it be impossible just to use a real piece of driftwood cut in half and some rocks and silicone those to the wall of the aquarium ?????

    Why not just put real rocks on drift wood since you have real plants?

    Love watching you but I see you using Home Depot orange buckets a lot, these buckets not that they are dangerous but are not food safe and can leach chemicals from the plastic into the water, not all plastics are safe for food which means they aren't safe for my fish or plants, short periods I'm sure are fine but why chance it. I bought a white 5 gallon food safe no BPA bucket from Lowes. I'm sure depot sells them also, just wanted to pass along a small safety tip
