@ 24:29~ They talk about how carnivorous crabs are. As a young policeman, I recovered the drowned body of a shrimper-sailor who had been in the water for 3 days. When I boat-hooked his belt, and pulled him to the bank, many small crabs skittered away from his face. On shore, all his soft tissues~ eyelids, lips, ears, etc, were eaten away, and his bodily gasses were bubbling out. Never ate another crab after that!

I just watched my childhood favorite video that introduced me to Godzilla and Kaiju and the crab monster was here. I just wanted to see the old timey monster movies lol.
Boy - I remember seeing this movie when I was about 10-11 years old - so it was probably around 1968. Not sure if it was on Chiller Theater or Creature Features. Me and my friend watched it in my basement - we thought it was AWESOME! Really miss those good old days.
Got to love the script, poor old Jules lying on floor having had his hand neatly severed and the doctor says the immortal words to the two sailors “come, give us a hand 🖐️” that line couldn’t have been written any better, intentional or not it is classic. After Jules spoke to the remaining team he left no doubt in my mind that he was dead in the physical sense but not mind, and that the rest of them were going to end up the same way, so why did they wait for him!!!! to speak again, and why did they trip the obvious trap by going to find out what was going to kill them? I thought these people were meant to be intelligent people, and yet, as with most films, they do exactly what they know is the wrong thing, they would have been better served coming up with a plan to defeat whatever it was they were up against, they had some dynamite 🧨 that would help, some side arms and possibly some rifles, so why didn’t they have a defensive strategy or offensive tactics????,……………..and the answer is, because it is a film where logic doesn’t exist. The other thing that makes no sense is the aircraft, fair enough that the base they were going to would assume storm prevented them flying back, but once it cleared and they still didn’t return a search and rescue mission would have been launched, starting at the island, but that is logical and we know logic doesn’t exist in film land. Ok @ 46:53 they make me eat my words, not totally unexpected, let’s see if “having a cunning plan, my lord” works for them. 😀👍🇬🇧🏴🇺🇦
My favourite era for these types of movie, they seem very cheesy to the younger generation’s but to me they are in a league of their own, they might not have the best or modern special effects or be in colour but I just think that they are better for it, hope you enjoyed watching it again, I know I did. 😀👍🇬🇧🏴🇺🇸🇺🇦

I remember watching this in the early 70s when I was a Freshman in high school thinking the final two lines of dialogue were really stupid. So I had to watch for The Professor and the last bit of dialogue. Damn, my memory was perfect and after 50 years the last lines are still utterly inane!
Ohh Russell Johnson aka The Professor! I remember watching this at the base theater as a kid. It scared me enough, to not want to learn to swim, and stay away from the Ocean. 5⭐ 👍👍 5🏆
Ah, the professor (Russel Johnson) trapped on an island again, this time with a bunch of old talking crabs and new people. Where's Gilligan to foul things up again? Still, these old black and white monster movies are fun to watch. Thanks for posting. Joe S
Notice the stock footage lightening strike at 9:34? It has been used on hundreds of horror movies and television shows since the 1950s. Still used today occasionally on UA-cam uploads. By the way, I am trying to compile a list of movies, such as this one, and television series, such as "Charmed" circa 1990, that have used this particular snipit of lightning strike stock footage over the decades. If anyone comes across of a particular sighting please drop me a response to this comment as to the title and approximate location of said lightening strike stock footage in whatever movie, or tv episode, that you happen to encounter it. I will be most grateful.
Update 02/11/2024: I believe the origin of that footage was The Bride of Frankenstein in 1935. That is the earliest example of it that I have been able to verify. So it dates back two decades prior to the 1950s.
Just watching it made me itch. There used to be a seafood restaurant named Nellie’s. They had a bumper sticker that said “I got the crabs at Nellie’s.”
That’s correct,it was one of 3 films made in 1782. The first film was called ‘The march of the crabdoodlers’ which was an origin story explaining how crabs evolved from sea cucumbers. The second film mysteriously disappeared during the coronal mass ejection of prawns in 1791. The third film is this one,and a fourth was planned (to be set in Cornwall) but someone wrote something mysterious on a piece of paper.
I noticed it said 1957 right there in the title screen which indicates to me that this movie is so old they hadn't as yet even invented Roman Numerals. Also, I worked for a crab and she was indeed a monster....although she hated the beach.
