    The design of these gaff cutters is classically beautiful. Once I had a dream of sailing to the med and wanted a Heard 35 for so long, but it became an obsession that was sadly unattainable. Now I have contented myself with a narrowboat that I love to bits. Although all these years later I still fantasise about sitting on a faded teak deck above turquoise waters beneath a Roman sun.

    Just so you know, I'm here to watch this video because my OCD can't handle the whole "28" thing in the thumbnail, while there's a "23" on the hull. You got me. You have sucked me into this world where numbers are arbitrary. Let's see what fresh hell awaits.

    Lovely! I have a Cygnus Gaffer 29, also known as Tamarisk 29, which is also based on the falmouth oyster boats design, so very very similar. I bought it in february 2021 as a bit of a project boat. Spent 13 months refitting her and now enjoying learning to sail her, though she still needs more sprucing up to look as pristine as this gentleman's fine vessel. We'll get there though. :)

    Thanks, Doc, nice tour - though a bit lacking in detail. Nice roomy vessel for a 28 footer, quite beamy for its length, too, at 10 feet. Obviously, space was pinched from the heads, which was pretty minimalist. I particularly liked the big bronze ports.

    A bad ass practical boat. How tall is the Dr? What's the headroom of this boat. I'm looking for a small, capable boat with at least 6'3" of height below deck. 🤔

    • @coolstorybrooooo7643
      @coolstorybrooooo7643 Рік тому +1

      The interior has 6' 0" headroom aft, slightly reducing to 5' 11" in the fore part of the saloon and in the heads and forecabin. There are two 6' 3" "crossover" berths in the forecabin. The heads compartment is to starboard, and in the saloon there is a single 6' 3" settee to port, and a U-shaped settee with drop-down table that can form a double berth 6' 3" long by 4' 6" wide. Mounted on the bulkhead by the galley is a removable timber frame that can support a canvas pipe cot above the saloon double to form an occasional extra berth if needed. But word or warning. No heard build boat is the exact same. Some have bespoke changes.

    • @jonathansimmonds5784
      @jonathansimmonds5784 5 років тому

      Those who do, including yourself, are getting it wrong whichever way you're pronouncing it! They're jib booms, you only get a bowsprit when there are two sticks poking out the front and it's the short fat one underneath that's called a bowsprit and I've been calling them bow, as in the branch of a tree, for 50 years along with hundreds of tall ship men, Baltic Trader owners, riggers, shipwrights et al.

    • @johnstarkie9948
      @johnstarkie9948 9 днів тому

      And we who’ve sailed Thames barges call it a bowsprit (bow rhymes with bow (and arrow)).
      Because the two bows are shaped like bows!
      Pronunciation offends only those who don’t understand.
