Kaku is just a kid trained against his will to be a WG's assassin. His dream was to be a carpenter, he was really happy during his infiltration in Water 7.
@@seaeagle7217i think oda said this in an sbs, that's a format where he answers fan questions you should look it up if u want to know more there are over 200 sbs's.
Kaku genuinely seemed to enjoy his life in Water 7 compared to the others, he really liked being a shipwright. He could have chosen to switch sides but he was trained since childhood as an assassin, not as easy thing to get out from, his conversation with Zoro at the end felt pretty bittersweet.
In case you didn't know, in the Hindu mythology, "sur" can be roughly translated as angels (although they are all males, female angels have their own name) and "asur"s are their counterparts, loosely translated as demons. Westerners tend to add an "a" at the end of everything Hindu (Ram becomes Rama, Ravan Ravana) and so asur became Ashura.
Fyi, the schwa deletion actually only happens in hindi and modern north Indian languages. It is still Asura, Indra and Rama in Sanskrit...not the otherwise
The line by Zoro to Kaku, "you speak in an arrogant matter, you're too haughty" is a bit lost in translation. The Japanese phrase literally means "your head is too high" which is an expression that means someone is being rude or arrogant. But it's also being used in a bit of a joking way by Oda since Kaku is a giraffe, his head is literally too high lol.
2:16 I remember first time watching this episode very vividly. I was so angry and annoyed I literally could feel my heat up. Oda's ability to make us despise characters intended to be hated is unmatched.
Kaku is, to this day, the only opponent Zoro apologized to as had they met under different circumstances they could have been friendly rivals or even allies. Kaku was the only one to honorably hand over his key despite being an assassin against his will.
I'm not sure if you're anime/manga current but although he may not have apologized directly there is one character that I think Zoro definitely views as an equal and could be a rival if not under the circumstances. SPOILER WARNING I feel like Zoro and King could definitely become rivals. Zoro and King both had absolute loyalty to their captain which is why they fought. But with Kaido gone and if Zoro knew King's backstory I think they could definitely respect each other.
@ZarathosDaimaoh In all of Enies Lobby ony 3 Government Swordsmen gave Zoro a challenge: T-Bone (respectable warrior on equal footing where a glancing blow would have spelled doom for Zoro), Kaku (a quick learning adapter who pushed Zoro past his limits and earned his respect), and a 3rd Man later on (won't spoil it if you don't know (but he's a dick).
18:58 I first saw this scene about 17 years ago. To this day, it still haunts me. And I don't mean it in a negative way. The amount and level of emotions conveyed in that scene is just overwhelming. There's pain (physical and emotional), sure, but there's also hope and fear, to the level of panic, in fact, and trust, desperation, determination, all together and at once, in one single panel/scene. The level of expression Oda (and the team at Toei Animation) got there is so. fucking. powerful.
Honestly respect to kaku. he got his powers like 2 hours ago and still figured out a bunch of ways to use it. and that power is to turn into a frickin giraffe
Yeah but i'm more impressed by Kalifah. His is easier, you're literally a were-any kind of animal as a Zoan and physically enhanced. Her soap power is rather tricky to figure out and explore. If anything, had she just fought as a regular assassin instead, she'd have quickly killed Nami.
"Lion's Strike" is one of Zoro's most powerful techniques btw. It's what he used to defeat Mr. 1 and he mainly uses it against his toughest opponents. The fact Kaku tanked it is pretty impressive honestly.
This attack focus on Kakus iron body. If Kaku just defens himself with iron body, Zorro could cut him with lion strike. But Kaku block the attack with tempest kick. The surprise moment was gone for Zorro
it's more that he didn't tank it. In the manga Kaku outright said it would probably have worked on his iron body if he'd tried to take it head on. It's the slicing through steel move after all.
You might have noticed that Robin‘s voice sounds a bit different from episode 299 onwards. Thats because Yuriko Yamaguchi was on maternity leave at the time, Yuko Kobayashi filled in for her until Ep.319.
This was just one crazy ride of qmazing moments and tension so that the episode felt like it ended in almost in instant! All the characters in this episode were amazing, most notably Zoro and Robin, who showed admirable will and determination! The fight with Zoro was just legendary and the best with him since Alabasta! His power-up was chill- inducing, and the direction amd sound created this breathtaking sequence! He has no problem going that extra mile! One crazy event lead to the next as we are remined that Lucci is the big threat! Robin got a great scene, capturing her statement and development! The animation is the best I have seen in the show and it never slows down!
This is actually my favourite fight scene in an arc full of incredibly good fight scenes. Kaku's increasingly bizarre techniques are just so much fun. The entire pasta machine sequence just made me laugh uncontrollably the first time I saw it.
Zoro's Lion Strike attack was the one he used to finally cut steel and defeat Mr 1, so that would be why he was confident it could cut through Kaku's Iron Body.
23:00 This is revealed in a cover series that was not adapted to the anime (that takes place after this arc, so I won't spoil the contents of it) and in the questions corner Oda has in the manga called SBS. CP9 agents are, for the most part, orphans raised to be assassins by the World Government. And I say for the most part because Kalifa is the daughter of the blond CP9 agent who was with Spandine in Robin's flashback, but AFAIK, she is the sole exception.
The last finish blow from Zorro was unable to block from Kaku. The Aura from Ashura made a projection of 9 swords and only 3 of them are real. Kaku was surprise Zorro go throw his tempest kick and get cut from all his 3 swords.
Kaku is so great, because he's the goofiest weird guy ever, and he has a lot of really silly-looking moves, but he turns out to be really really scary and challenging.
Oh! I'm 5 minutes late!😊 PASTAAAA MACHINEEEE! Best Attack ever! It seems like Oda writes little flashbacks for EVERY character he creates. Considering that, thanks to the editor, some of these are integrated into the story, I always wanted to know more about Kaku. The scene where he jokes about Zoro after he was fired is really nice. He seems to be the only one who cares about the life he left behind in Water7. His real dream was to be a carpenter. It would have been nice to know more, also about why he is so close to Lucci. The fight that Robin undertakes to do everything to stay alive, slow down Spandam and allow his companions to reach her is one of the best scenes ever. The moment in which she clings with her teeth to the bridge is so damn powerful and sad, especially considering how in her life she has been used, betrayed and sold by everyone to the point of feeling suicidal instincts. If it were not for Saul and her mother she would not be the person we see today. Ps. I hope Spandam will suffer so much that he can't even be pushed in a wheelchair, he will drink urine with intravenus-drip and his gums will bleed so much that he will choke on his own blood at night so he can't sleep. Too much?
I still love that despite being the one who was most suspicious of Robin, Zoro's the one whose new ability resembles hers. Man maybe slow to warm up but once he does he's ride or die
Just found the channel. You are in one of One Piece's most amazing arcs right now and it's just about to get amazing. I'm really eager to see you make it to one certain episode in the near future, even though I already know I'm still not ready for it.
I love that Oda can be really subtle with some stuff but when he wants you to hate someone, he will make you hate someone from the tip of your toes to the very core of your soul. Spandam is definitely on the top 10 most hated in the whole series.
4:47 Yes, thats what i personally love about one piece fights, even when their serious, their still so goofy just by how the world is biuld and how ppls look and act, its so brilliant :D
Don't know if you heard about it, but in the manga there are so called cover stories that were not adapted into the anime (for the most part). Maybe some patreons can give you a hand with those? They aren't mandatory, but they do expand the world and connect with the main story on some level (and are very quick to read)
Zoro complaining about the use of "Pasta Machine" as an attack name is kinda hypocritical; at least half of his attacks in early One Piece are food puns in Japanese (case in point; Onigiri means rice ball and whatever demon slash is sometimes used as the English name).
At this point in the story, Garp doesn’t have the importance that you two are giving him. The live action made a choice to reveal that he is Luffy’s grandpa much earlier on for their narrative but the anime audience doesn’t know that yet.
Don't know if you'll see this comment, but Demon Aura isn't just show Zoro's power, but speed. He moves so fast that he gives the illusion of being 3 different begins. They're basically after images, but that's how I see it. It could be something else entirely
When you think about it it makes no sense for Kaku to have his midriff showing Look at Chopper. He got huuuuge and his hat and shorts grew accordingly. Kaku gets a bit elongated and his clothes can't fit him anymore
@@saygh33 pretty sure the plan would have been to have Zoro change allegiance during that arc, but I don't remember seeing that explicitly stated anywhere. Yeah and then on top of that he became besties with Rob Lucci of all people. We all know Lucci is perfectly happy where he is.

Kaku making things up as he goes is one of my favourite bits of this arc. He tries so hard to be serious, but his devil fruit refuses to cooperate.
That's just how giraffes hunt in OP world

10:50 "He gets so hurt every time." Don't worry. The amount of hurt that Zoro will get in next arc will make it seem like nothing happened here.
😂
Nothing happened then either idk what you mean 😐
Something happened? 🤔
What are you saying , Nothing happened in next arc.
I forgot how early the running gag of "people with Zoans making shit up as they go" started lmao
16:00 "fired" and "neck" are the same word in Japanese. So this was a pun that got lost in translation.
Kaku along with the other CP9 agents were born into this life. Training from young childhood. Kaku never really had a chance
