We use to call the steel ones, steelys, they were large steel bearing's but we felt lucky to find them, I'm 68 so I do have a jar of marbles I love looking at, great job Robert, always enjoy your videos no matter what your doing, freezing in Michigan, hope your warmer in Georgia ❤😊

He pleaded "nolo contendere " (a plea by which a defendant in a criminal prosecution accepts conviction as though a guilty plea had been entered but does not admit guilt.) and yes, I had to look that up for you because I had never heard of it before.
Tennessean in my 70's here. My father grew up on a farm in Tennessee mountains. He loved marbles and told me about making stone marbles by putting a stone under a waterfall where it would be continuously turned by the falling water. He still had his stone marbles. I have them now. They are various sizes and one of my most-loved things from his childhood.

I've got a collection of old marbles I inherited and it contains at least 50-60 clay/stone marbles and 100 or so glass marbles. Now I got to go look for my uv flashlight and check my marbles for uranium glass. How cool.
Robert, The "marbles" that are brown with whirl marks may well be agates which also have some light reflection qualities. I have a whole box of agates and marbles found in a piece of furniture that came out of an old jewelry store. The test for agate is if it will scratch a glass surface. I'm in freezing Canada, feeling for my US cousin's in the cold nasty weather you are getting. We used steelies too. My uranium glass marbles came from my Aunt and Uncle that traveled with the carnivals all over the world, they operated nickel digger games.. They told me that the uranium glass ones were prizes from carnival games. The clay ones were made in Germany through the 1800's to 1900's.
Those marbles are cool! I've never heard of clay marbles nor uranium marbles. I don't know much about marbles but some of those look very old. You've got a lot of treasure in the Old Byrd Farm. I can't wait to see what else you find next. Thank you for sharing with us, Robert.
I have a few 'potties' (Such marbles are known in my neck of the woods) - oversized marbles that are glazed in white. 19th century. Then there are the square ribbed variety known as 'knuckles' .
I have a large can of marbles of my dad’s when he was a child in the 30’s and 40’s. I’ll get a black light to check. He would show them to us and show us the bigger marbles - the shooters. And he’d show us the really old clay ones. Fascinating Robert. Thanks so much.

can you imagine being a kid in the 30's and having these little lights in your room at night? One of my favourite childhood things was a radio that glowed in the dark, it was awesome.
Robert, my old memory fails me at times; however, didn't the Air Force lose a nuclear bomb somewhere over Georga? I'm not trying to make a connection. I'm not the only one who said the oil lamp will clean up nicely and glow. The findings are interesting and seeing you doing more relaxing things tells a story of how far you've come on the OBF.
I have a couple dozen marbles from a 120 +- homestead where I lived for quite a few years. Some are green glass bearings, which I recently learned are often found along railroad tracks. I have not yet read that they could be uranium glass, but I'm looking for a black light to check to see if any of the smaller ones are. Until today I had no idea any of these could be uranium glass. I learn something new every day.
The reason people may have found some along railroad tracks is... They use to make signals with glowing glass beads so that you could see the signs at night when the headlights lite them up. All kinds of signs were make with glass marbles encased in them. Stop red, Go green

The signature on that box looks extremely similar to Russell Stover. That is probably their predecessor. Possibly they change the name because of a lawsuit.
Steelys. Because of their weight, they were considered cheating in some marble games and marble circles. They would chip the glass marbles and hack off your opponents. I have marbles from when I was a kid in the ‘50’s and ‘60’s, and my Dad’s and Uncles collections from the ‘20’s-‘40’s.

Omg! Please do some research on these before letting them go! There are some huge collectors out there, some marbles are worth a few hundred. I never knew there were uranium glass marbles! I have a few old marbles that I will have to check. I have both unglazed and glazed clay marbles; the ones with a mottled brown glaze are called Benningtons for Bennington Pottery. "Glowy" glass seems to be very popular right now, yellow vaseline glass also glows, and there are other colors of glass that will glow. Keep that black light handy, and I hope you find more treasures like your lamp and marbles.

Yes I love my marble collection. You mostly have typical marbles. But, you do have many sizes. That is good. You have many styles. Thats good. You have only a few really good ones. But all together a nice mix of makers and colors. You might want to sort them in styles and put them in small glass containers. If you find any glass medicine bottles with a flange on top you could even tie a string around the top and hang the bottles with marbles inside it in a window. So pretty.

Different amount of uranium in the glass used by different companies effects the glow.
You also have Vaseline glass which glows yellow.
Now you can go back to the flea market with your blacklight flashlight and see what glows!
At least you haven't lost all your marbles!

The Cherokee made stone marbles of various sizes but I do not know their method. My Uncle had a bunch of them.

Not everything old has value. An antique marble goes for max 20 pounds.

They were a premier chocolate company from 1945-1978. They were famous for their choc covered cherries. Based out of jacksonville Fla.
