Thanks, I had almost the same issue with my fridge and I followed your guide. I also picked up ice build up on the cooling air channel.
    Thanks

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Fabulous video which helped greatly in repairing my fridge/freezer. Our water now works and our fridge is now not frosted behind the water bottle or behind the cooler. I would never have believed it! I repaired it by myself to the amazement of my hubby who was so pleased with my skills I am know known as the odd job woman (just another title to add to the moms list of jobs) and it saved an awful amount of money that we just hadnt got.

hi, recently bought a samsung fridge that i believe was never defrosted ever, freezer department was making noises when switched on and when I dismantled it there was ice everwhere, very bad but thats now fixed, i have given it a defrosting and it still has your problem, fridge not cooling also has this fault:4 - Refrigerator Fan Error - Refrigerator Fan motor operation failure
When holding top two buttons to run a diagnostic test, i got this error. Was not 100% sure what to do but my next step was looking into this part, after coming across this vid, it reassured me and there was so much ice, worse then yours, fan was covered and blocked. Now all put back together the fault has gone and hopefully it will work and reach right temperature! Your a legend, thanks.

Brilliant, thank you. This is exactly what I was looking for.
Does the panel easily come off once all the ice has melted or are there other brackets keeping it in place that I should be aware of?
Ours also had ice build-up mainly on the left side and after letting the unit stand for a day to defrost, the panel is still stuck.

This is a common problem for the RS21. The failure of some part of the defrost system causes icing which then prevents fridge cooling efficiently. I figured out the parts to change and got a new defrost element kit (inc. sensor and thermal link) then found that water was leaking from the water cooler. This will have been caused by freezing and then expanding and cracking the cooler plastic. I'm now trying to glue up the cracks in the cooler (on inner radii of cooler). If it doesn't hold, then I may buy a new cooler tank (£30). Defrosting a fridge without fixing the problem will cause it to soon reappear and then damage fan and/or water cooler tank. A clear design fault for this model...

We have this model. There was a recall on this and samsung sent out an engineer to have a new panel fitted to prevent this.

So we had a service tech recharge our compressor and the problem was fixed by drilling into it. He said it was a bandaid fix because there was a leak in the seal system. We had it recharged one more time since then and so far everything is working as it should. My husband thinks we need to replace the "gasket" that outlines the doors as it may be allowing cold air to escape. Also, I keep the fridge at 36 degrees and freezer at -4 I'm not sure if it helps but that's where we're at.

    I have got a Samsung RS21 which I brought about 6 years ago !
Like yourself I defrosted it every few months until I watched a you-tube clip Samsung on Watch Dog (must see). There is a design fault. I called them and they fixed it for free, changing 5 parts in the process. That was about a year ago, goodbye problems. What more can I say.!!

Hi there... what were the 5 problems?? x

There was only one problem, the fan freezing over !
The caused was, the condense water forming at the back of the fridge should filter through a channel to the evaporator tray next to the the compressor. But the water freezes as it filters through the inlet of the channel and creates a blockaged. Then the problem gets worse, the water as no where to go and builds up into ice.
Parts changed, the back panel, fan, condenser coil , and two wiring harnesses with sensors. I kept the report given to me by the engineer for a while, but I think it as now been binned. The new kit incorporates a small element which prevents the water channel from freezing up. Simple idea really and it works. I am a gas heating engineer ! You can purchase heater cables to stop the condense pipes externally routing from condensing boilers freezing in winter. The principle is the same.

the defrosting will only last a couple of weeks before you have to do it again and the more you do it the quicker it comes back.We have a Samsung engineer coming to fix the problem.

Hi Mark, please help. I had the same problem with my fridge, icing in the fridge, temp going up. A Technician came out said I needed a new defrost element installed this. A few weeks later the same problem happened. He then said I needed a new sensor and installed this and again the fridge started icing up. The problem is I defrosted the fridge left it off for about 24 hours and when I switched it back on again the Fridge is working great 3 degrees but the freezer is remaining at 5 degrees not going down to -20. Do you know why that is. thank you Florence

the real problem is the water cooler has likely split, you need to replace the water cooler its currently £49 posted from espares and takes about 30 mins to replace. You will need access to the back.
water leaking from the water cooler is freezing up the fan and cooling bars behind it.

they have a defrost element which will stop working or the defrost sensor. That is the problem most of the time

Don't go mad and buy new panels, thermistors, defrost heaters or anything else. They are not the cause of the icing up issue. Note the grey foam strip which should be resilient. It's crap! Take it of and replace with self adhesive insulation strip from ant DIY store. This repair will cost a couple of quid and will last a decade. Easy. Shame Samsung have never told their engineers.

Defrosting it with hair dryer will temporary work for a month. It will frost up again. U need to order a new Samsung Fridge Freezer Defrost Heater Sensor Thermistor Thermal Fuse RS21 off eBay that will cost £24. Installing it pretty easy. There is a Scottish guy on another video shows u how to install it properly. Jobs all good after.
