- Quick little breakdown of what was used to track the most recent GA-20 live LP - 'Live In Loveland'. All preamps were onboard Tascam 388 preamps, pretty standard mic array, and just a matter of pointing the mics at the right stuff.

As the momentum continues to build for old-school blues rock trio GA-20, the band takes their expanding fanbase by storm with the release its first full-length live LP, Live In Loveland! Featuring 11 rowdy, blistering performances (including five songs from 2022’s Crackdown, three from their 2019 debut Lonely Soul and three previously unrecorded tracks), Live In Loveland captures GA-20 feeding off the energy of the wall-to-wall crowd and delivering each song with raw emotion and body-shaking force.

Tims drum sound with only 2 Tracks is on point ❤
It’s groovy that you guys give a breakdown of how you recorded the magic

Too good
Nice!
Excelente. 👍
I really, really love your recording aesthetic. I go for similar sounds in my work. Why use seven mics on a drumkit when 2 sounds incredible?
The presence is there, and there’s some “air” around everything, especially the drums. This is how a set of drums on a recording should sound, not the same-old bullshit samples and fake nonsense. The band sounds all the better for it.
Rudy Van Gelder had the right idea, as did Sam Phillips at Sun and Jim Stewart at Stax. I asked Sam about his technique once, and Sam said, “Man, just listen to the instrument. Find a place where the instrument sounds good, and put a goddamn microphone there.”
Yes, sir.
That's an amazing quote hahaha. Appreciate all the kind words, and taking the time to share them here!
Look these break down videos
I’ve always put the kick and bass on the outside tracks 1/8. Any reason you have tracks placed where you have them?
I mean specifically on the 388
