Olivia - Narrator, Historian, Analyst, Adventurer, Hiker, Entrepeneur, Business Owner, Gnarly Fashionista, UA-camr, Office Decorator, Classic Car Mechanic, Classic Car Restorer, Test Driver, Classic Car Track Tester/Racer, and loving mate to Danny...So many contributions, so little time. ..Thank you both for what you do!!!
Hahah thank you thank you! Too kind 😅
I remember growing up in the Oxnard area, then taking a trip to LA. In the video 3:40 pulling off to stop a few minutes of rest and continuing out the other side. Can't find any footage through and out the other side. To me the most important was the rock wall on the ocean side that no one shows. video 15:27 I don't know how much longer that will be there. I wish the State would build a walkway to it. Another point, we use to swim around the point and go into a cave, only at low tide, water entrance before the highway fell into the water. Would have taken pictures but back then cameras were kind of rare. Moms 8mm movie camera never made it that far. (Mugu point in the 60's) I really like this video. It helps the " Do you remember when?"
Thank you for the stroll down Memory Lane...
1980 - I was stationed at Pt Mugu and spent a good deal of time at the Rock.
At 11:26 I was surprised to see that there was still that much left of the road after 44 years.
At 14:22 The rock shown middle-left of screen used to have a concrete bridge connecting the rock to the cliff I would imagine for the touristy ( is that a word? ) photo op when the road was still there. But by 1980 there was no handrail of any sort and I can perfectly remember crawling across that inverted T -shaped decaying bridge on my most cowardly hands and knees. I also remember that while sitting on that rock it would slightly shudder if a larger wave hit it during stormy weather.
At 15:05 I can actually still see where the bridge connected to the rock on it's south end. I wonder if it fell down or got taken down.
Thank you again...
The historical photo overlays were great. We are so fortunate to have this in our backyard. Thanks for putting this video together.
Thank you! Yes we are very blessed.
Loved this video!! Do more more for sure. Call it cruisin' through history 🍻🤙
Nice video.
Great filming and camera work! Beautiful scenery, warm weather and a classic car, you are living a dream! So happy for you and a bit jealous!
Thanks so much! Haha I have it pretty good out here.
I moved to Oxnard in 1969 and I just recently moved out in 2021.Mugu rock will always be in my heart. I have many hangout spots along that strip of the PCH. I used to mountain bike ride up in Sycamore Canyon and would hang out at Neptune net afterwards to get a pound of shrimp and have a beer post ride. Malibu Seafood Inn, which I think has the best fish and chips ever. I would ride my bicycle from the south side of Oxnard up to Mugu rock and at times up to Neptune net. I now live in Kentucky. After 50+ years of living in Oxnard, I decided that I need a change. I have to say where I live now it is hot Rod Heaven. However I had to get used to the four seasons and to be honest Kentucky is not that bad. I happen to live in the cruising capital of Kentucky, which is Somerset. And talk about barn finds. They are everywhere here. It is a hot rod heaven. I do miss the beach and the PCH. But Oxnard got too overpopulated for my taste. I plan on going back to visit and hopefully get to meet y’all and talk shop. Thank you for the wonderful video content. I have my eye on a very cool rat rod that I plan to buy and hopefully I can show it to you in person. Much love from Kentucky.
I walked the old road back in the 80s before there was a fence. Erosion was a problem and I see more of the road is missing. Stay safe...
Beautiful coastline view. Unfortunate that the old PCH road is vandalized, great spot overlooking the ocean. Thanks for the history of Mugu Rock and PCH.
Olivia, excellent podcast, love your podcasts keep the history of your travels coming to us, and build that charger to be a driver.😍🇨🇦
Thank you for taking time to do this Ms Olivia. Although I have only visited there one time as an adult last May, I was born just North of there a very long time ago when my father was stationed at an army post that was called Ford Ord Army Post which was once near Monterey. I will be taking a road trip to the area you are right there in this video. Thanks again.
Hi Olivia, from Canada. This video is a wonderful surprise. Your narration is captivating and an excellent historical account. I never heard of Point Mugu before. Yes, please do more of these videos. The past-present time jump pictures are amazing. That section of the old hanging highway looks like it could collapse at any time. You are brave to cross it. One of the best videos on UA-cam I have ever seen. Very soothing and beautiful to view, even on a screen. I can't imagine the luxury of actually being there. You are a lucky person. As a new subscriber, I have begun watching your previous videos. I really like your new merch office. You and Danny did a fantastic job. It looks perfect. Just a suggestion. I wish your merchandise also added the word California somewhere on it. That pins down your location and California is a magical place to live
Real Cool! My family use to camp in that area at a state park back in the early 1970's. Thanks for the tour down memory lane.
Thanks for the Video....Great Travelog...Reminds me of when I was a kid...Bill Burrud used to do something similar. I loved watching those shows...👍👍👍👍
This was a great video! Always interested in Point Mugu because my grandmother lost her life with 2 others in May 1937 on the old road.
After chatting with some old timers, I learned that the highway was split into 3 lanes along that curve, referring to one of them as "suicide lane".
Yes !
Show some more of that awesome state, in that Pontiac. Doesn't get any better !
Thanks for sharing the detailed history of Mugu Rock/PCH. Seeing the old historic pictures lined up with how it looks today was cool. Sad to hear the history of the lives that were lost. Look forward to more historic stories if you do anymore of them. 🍻
Were those Pelicans flying by at 21:10? How cool is that! I love nature/animals ever since I was a kid, thanks to my step dad.
Thank you, Olivia! Very interesting and COOL! I hope to see more like this. 😎👍
Such beautiful and tragic stories with an awesome view thank you for sharing the history I had no idea can’t beat that drive 🔥🔥🔥🌊
Looks like a beautiful place I have only been out to needles California back in 1992 , I have been on oak Island long Beach NC back in 1988 that was so nice only 1 paved road the rest were all sand , not sure what it's like now . Thanks for taking us along , God Bless.
Nice history lesson!! I have always loved then n’ now photos. I’ve been through there a few times, but never have taken the opportunity to stop to check it out. Now it’s a ‘must do’. Thanks Olivia! Really enjoyed it🍻✌️
Just for laughs...“Oh Magoo, you’ve done it again!” Mr. Magoo always maintained a positive attitude, reminding us to find humor in our own mistakes. Cool rock, too bad people are so disrespectful.
Mr. Magoo is a TV show my parents watched when they we're kids, also we like to call our friend Brian Mailn Mr. Magoo as well.
Great PCH history. Love the ocean views. Cheers.
Olivia, great job on the video.. one of my bucket list items is driving down PCH in my 56 Pontiac someday. I dig the So Cal culture and the history from the area, the car culture/hot rods/ drag racing etc. I would love to see you make more videos like this
Thanks for this nice video and for the neat stories! I'll bet the "Big Wave" is a lot happier with those new rockers and push rods, so it must be nice to take drives to places you first went when the engine was done. It's a beautiful stretch of coastline.
Hey Olivia what a fantastic video and historical perspectives on Mugu rock, from a long time resident of VC and now down south in SD I’ve traveled up and down PCH my entire life and as you say what a fantastic view from either side of the rock, keep up the great work and as always safe travels on PCH and beyond Thank You.
Steve 😊
Thank you so very much for taking the time to watch and comment, Steve. 😊
Miss Liv thanks for taking us along on your ride to see point Mugu State Park, and sand hill ❤ I looked up the address, and added it to my bucket list to go visit.
You will love it!
Yep, definitely do some more history videos. I really enjoyed that. Very well put together too.
Keep up the great content Liv.
Thanks for the history lesson on Magu Rock on PCH.My entire graduating class from Moorpark High School in 1972 went to the sand Hill and hung out at the beach all day for ditch day. We had Cardboard and slid down the hill😊😊Crazy to think that was 52 years ago. Time flies.
Wow.That was great.Thankyou.Yes.Show us more
Thanks...enjoyed the tour with the history...I will InJoy more of these...looking forward...
Yikes, I'm with ya on the heights thing. Thanks for the tour guided mini holiday.
Great video and information! Thanks for sharing. I love Mugu rock and that area, also. I remember walking around the rock when the old road wasn’t as deteriorated in the 1960’s. I love local history and historical photos.
Thank you so much for watching! So cool to hear stories from locals who visited it years ago
Thanks for the tour 👍that was kool ! As I watch from Alberta 🇨🇦 where the Temp is minus 30 !!🤣
Enjoyed your cruise Olivia you make me want to come visit California . The tempest is looking good
Love the content, yes more PCH history, I'm from New Zealand and have cruised up and down a number of times but don't really know a lot about it. Last time a year or so ago we couldn't get parking to go to Malibu Pier so we went to Neptunes, and then when I got back to NZ found out it was an iconic place that they shot a lot of movie scenes ! Coming back this year to do it again Santa Monica up to Oregon !
Excellent video, please please please////WE WANT MORE !!!!!!!! thank u from nyc
Love it, love it, love it! I definitely hope to see more history of the area videos.
Thank you for this terrific ambassadorship of our wonderful state and SoCal history.
Liv LOVE ALL your videos. Found this one particularly interesting. MORE....
Very nice for a change. More of these please.
Nice short, Historical piece of history! Well done & thank you for the knowledge Olivia.
Thank you so much! :)
Continue ! I (french living in Spain) like to visit California with a canadian guide!👍
Yes more like this please very enjoyable.
PCH and Mulholland drive were my absolute favorite drives while living in LA back in the 90s.
Ok also what is now known as “canyon carving” anywhere around LA and the drives through Mojave and the 101 all the way to SF and using backroads to get to Palm Springs & Vegas.
Yup I loved my time in LA back when things were cool in CA.
Thank you Olivia, that was enjoyable. PCH is on my bucket list!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I lived in Ventura County from '88 to 2005. Been up and down PCH a gazllion times. Loved the old historical photos!
Have you ever driven Potrero Road to Hidden Valley and Lake Sherwood? They have filmed many commercials, TV shows and movies in that area too.
As a recently retired truck driver from Tennessee I have wore that highway out hauling produce back to Nashville Many years up and down highway 101
Great video about this amazing road. Thanks for creating and sharing it!
Great video Liv! I would love to see you guys take the car up the coast north for another ride. Those videos I really enjoy. I am from Pennsylvania and I am really jealous of that beautiful weather! Snowing here now. I am not jealous of those gas prices, OUCH!
Very cool, great info and historic photos! A entertaining video!
No matter where I was in the world, whenever I saw Mugu Rock on TV, I was home. Now I get to see it everyday at work. Unfortunely, we have lost too many people in that curve.
I love this!! This documentary is even better than national geographic stuff!! Thank you so much!! I really look forward to all your videos!! So beautiful
It's very sad that people trash a beautiful spot 😪 you are awesome
Yes I would love to see more cool spots of the PCH maybe one day I will be able to check them spots out myself
This was a great video about the history of PCH, you might want to do the history of the Rancheros, before this part of California was accepted as a part of the state of California, because it was a part of the Mexico territory and had huge Rancheros owned by Latino's😊😊
Great video Liv. Learned so much. 😊
Great post. TU!👍
Beautiful spot Liv. I have driven that road many years ago and remember the beauty. We love seeing the Lemans as well. My wife drives a Blue 67' Skylark so it reminds me of that a little. You should paint up a set of Rally 2 Pontiac wheels for it or body colour paint the current wheels blue and pop the dog dish caps back on without the trim rings. It would look great. It already looks good. Keep up the great shows. We enjoy watching a fellow Canadian car enthusiast.
Thanks for sharing! Great narration and wonderful history lesson.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I so enjoyed this ......... wow... thank you
Great job Olivia! That was very interesting.
Cool video and narrative...well researched...good job.
This is very cool ! I had wondered about the road going through the hillside from your videos .
Hello Olivia.... I learned some new stuff about that rock and I've been going to it since the late 50's.. I'm old..... I want to say something about your channel... Stick to doing exactly what you are as we are all Family... Ya work on cars and your take side trips.... nothing boring about it at all... You and Danny have a wonderful relationship and I'm pleased to see what you two get into next.... Peace DC
Thank you so so much for taking the time to watch and leaving this comment. We really appreciate the kind words.

Thanks for sharing.
Very interesting. Did not know how much of this area was owned by one person.. In a little more research I found that May Rindge went bankrupt in 1938.
Thank you for keeping life interesting sweetheart.❤
Love Cali history! More please! 😎
So liv. Great video. Take some time traveling up the coastline & south theres tons of fun stops & historical places to video thanks for sharing 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😎
Thanks for sharing this as it was beautiful.. Bring Danny next time.. :-)
Liv , that was really a great video, really enjoyed watching it , your a great tour guide ❤❤❤❤
I bet if you went to a local Library you would be able to find so much more info and pics of PCH plus they would have copies of all the old newspapers so that may be a good place to get history books of the PCH since it's local in that area.
I have admired that rock from past videos .That would be a nice place to camp if legal. Thank You
Liz thanks for the great history lesson it was awesome to see it and watch it and listen to the stories that you had to tell
My pleasure!!
Thank you liv for the history lesson. Spent a lot of time surf fishing the coast of so.cal.
Great video Olivia! Well done!
I have driven past there many times. Good to know some of the history about it!
Glad you enjoyed it! :)

Been there a few times. Nice drive. Have had car meets. Nice place to chill.
My hands were getting clammy when you were crossing over to the other side of the rock. 😂
Such a great vid.ty for show a great vid.never been there.im from northern cali
Great job on the video. 👍
I lived in Santa Monica for six years, but that was about 35 years ago but still I never knew about the old PCH going around the rock. Thanks for the info. I live in the Bay Area now.
Glad you learned something from the video! Thank you for watching 🙏
You did an amazing job on the video. Do more of this please 🎉
Thank you!
Beautiful place.Love your Tempest
hey, you guys need to plan a trip to the loins dragstrip museum near long beach. its so cool, but check the times .i think they are only open on most weekends
Great video & infos about that fascinating spot! I loved every second of it! I'd love to take a cruise there sometime in the future!
Thank you! I hope you do, it's even better in person.
Awesome 😊
That was a really interesting story..
Hi Olivia, I'm up north and it been nothing but rain overcast and Cold
🥶
Great video. Your presentation is getting smoother and more relaxed. Loved It. Was wondering if you were going to head just a little more south and check out Point Dume. Lots of the world knows that spot. The Statue of Liberty gives it away. 🤣
Great video. Keep your hiking shoes in your trunk. 🙈 about gave me a heart attack.
Sorry!! Won't forget them next time
I really enjoyed this video. Aren't those big trees you can drive through in Cali as well? Would love to see you take the Tempest through there!
Yes! Maybe we can do a video on the history of the Sequoias
Great video ! I hope to visit that area someday.
You should! It's even better in person
Thank you for the ride along and the history lesson, not much scenery like that here in Kansas! I will have to have therapy after your walk along the edge of the old highway…that gave me a little anxiety! Lol
Me too.... haha not going back there again.
@@GnarlySpeedShop did you guys receive my order for a Large white T-shirt? If not I’ll re-order.
