OK, seriously guys we've never brought in or used a firearm illegally before and never will. We're not going to disclose on every video how the gun we're using was legally sent and being used by us, every episode takes over 100 hours of team prep to make, do any of you really think we don't take the time to make sure everything is being done properly?

In German there is a phrase "Nul acht fuenfzehn" which means simple, unremarkable, standard, reliable. It's a phrase that was in relatively common usage when I was growing up in the 1990's, an I suspect it's still in use today. What many people don't realize is that the phrase refers to the old MG08/15... funny how things can love on culturally.

Something not remarked upon: the Belgians had dogs pulling machine guns! They also had bicycle infantry! What a cute army!

Love this amount of history you throw out there and in a relatable way. I just drove through Denver in April, but there was a whole slew of cool things on I-70. There not much between St. Louis and Denver, but Salina, Kansas was a good half way stopping point between the two.

Awesome episode. When you said a long episode was coming I was kind of expecting a continuation of the Mauser series with the Belgian 1889 and other variants, but this was a very suitable alternative

Well, the service life in the next episode is going to include the present, since Ukraine officially reactivated Maxims to defend fortified positions on the armistice line. I guess it helps that they can just use PKM belts.

I saw it yesterday and was totally impressed.
In times, when Hollywood make stupid Comic-movies, Othais and Mae bringing ambitious entertainment to the people and i learned a lot from both of you...about the guns of my country Germany. Much better than any german video-publication!
    Impressively thoroughly researched and inspiring!

I hope you've been doing some riding Othais. You'll need to be in good riding shape to enjoy that amount of time in saddle. You should stop in KC and visit the WW1 museum. It's a sobering experience. Since the remodel it's really nice.

Amazing episode on an amazing piece of engineering and history as usual. Can’t wait for the second part. BTW the look on Mae’s face while firing was hilarious. It looked like a kid going into a candy store with a rich uncle who doesn’t really get along with mom.
Also be safe on your ride Othais when that happens and have a good vacation. I know you need it and while I will be sad to not get my weekly gun documentary I’m certain that the recharge will do wonders.

    *Material for High Temperature Gaskets*
High Temperature Gasket material is necessary for applications that will have continuous temperatures exceeding +750F. Applications with intense heat, high pressure, saturated steam or hot oils can quickly lead to gasket failure if the wrong material is designated for use. Hennig Gasket maintains an extensive inventory of high temp gasket material for custom fabrication. As well, we are a leading distributor of high temperature products including spiral wound gaskets, ceramic fiber blankets and fiberglass tapes & ropes.
Graphite Laminate: a natural mineral but with thermal and electrical conductivity like metal. As one of the softest minerals, graphite can be produced with stabilizing inserts of stainless steel, carbon steel or wire mesh. Graphite laminate is resistant to high temperatures up to +875F.
Woven & Compressed Graphite Foil: a patented method of encapsulating flat leaf springs into a thick vermiculated graphite foil jacket make this high temp gasket material capable of enduring temperatures up to +1400F.
Fluorosilicone: an elastomer most often used in applications requiring fuel and lubricant resistance in addition to high temperatures of +400F
Silicone: high temperature silicone sheets or rolls has a tensile strength of 1000 psi and is resistant to fungus, UV and ozone up to +600F
Compressed Non-Asbestos: an asbestos-free fiber with minimal creep relaxation problems in high temperatures up to +750F
Ceramic Fiber Blankets: a lightweight high temp insulation resistant to thermal shock and chemical attack. Maintains handling strength at elevated temperatures to +2300F
Spiralwound gaskets: a low-cost solution with multiple plies of metal and filler (either ceramic, graphite or PTFE) in the spiral. Suitable as a high temp gasket material to +850F
Frenzelit Novatec: a unique blend of graphite and Kevlar or aramid for high temperatures to +825F
PTFE: a chemically resistant plastic that conforms to both FDA and AMS specifications and maintains durability with temperatures up to +500F
Fiberglass Tape & Rope: an environmentally friendly material for temperature applications of +1000F

Maybe the owner ought to go talk to some people from his local steam engine or model steam club. Those guys know a bit about gland packings using modern materials that work. For example, old style graphited yarn is almost impossible to find. These days an O ring can do the same thing.

I had the same thought about cylinder packing. Expandable yarn packing or good oakum is kinda hard to find at your local Wal Mart.

Great video, worth the wait as usual. Mae looked like she was having a great time, looks like the deadly weapon ive always read about. 90 metres is a long way to run with one of those firing. A relative of mine, Bodo Singe, sounds the same as when you burn/singe something. His medical report says he was hit 7 times, from calves, thigh, hip, abdomen to shoulder, pretty sure the poor bastard got hit with a burst from one of these. Survived the war, only the luck ran out and he was killed 10 years later in a motorcycle accident. Just realised that might sound spooky before your road trip but im sure you're a great rider. Damn, I was like number 999 almost got the 1000
