Oh Hon, I'm sad for you, I'm in zone 6. I got some annuals last week, but the temp at night got down to 33 a couple of nights. Plus we haven't got any rain in about 3 weeks, finally we got rain yesterday 100 chance today and tomorrow tul about 3 in the afternoon. I'm jut to dang lazy to clean out some of my flower beds to plant them. God please help get up and get outside before it starts rain again❤
Great info Janey. The window boxes turned out so nice. I noticed how well the Fushia you bought that day with Robbie is doing really well. Hanging near the hummingbird nest is a great place to hang it.
Thank you for taking us on your planting up the window boxes. Also the information will be a game changer for me. Thank you ever so much in explaining how to understand the sun wording on the tags. I kind of understood but you really made it easy. Enjoy the rest of your day.
Thanks for clarifying sun exposure for plants... always been a little confusing. Good to know that part shade is morning sun only!!!! The boxes look beautiful. Thank you! 🌞 M
Your window boxes look great, love the combinations. When I plant up any kind of pots or hanging baskets I put some mulch around the plants. It keeps the soil from moving around and spilling out, also helps with moisture loss and makes for a better finished look. I just started watching your videos I like the fact that you like color and are not afraid to go for it girl!😁🌷👏
This is my second time watching one of your videos. You are so adorable and love your easy to understand presentation. I love following You Tube videos and looking forward to following you. I hope you help me become a better flower gardener.❤❤❤
I just bought that polka dot plant last week. I also bought the same Colius at the same time last week what a coincidence that's just crazy! I love them. I can't wait to get them into my garden. But right now they're all potted up because it's just still too cold in the evening. I'm in Indiana so I'm waiting patiently but it won't be long. Your window boxes are absolutely gorgeous!! ❤
Love your comments about the kitchen and garage being clean! 🤣 Sounds like me! It takes so much patience for them to hurry up and fill out with their gorgeousness!
Thank You :) this was so helpful, I always was confused with the part-Sun and part-shade terminology. So far, I had translated them to be the same, lol ! I love how you shared two completely different looks on these window boxes; they are equally stunning !
Thank God you're still making videos! I just subscribed after watching the honeysuckle tea video💚 Is that Sage under the kichen window box? OH MY GOSH!!! Look how incredible your yard is😲
Thank you for the informative video this morning! It’s good to know the sun and shade rules that you went over. I’ve also had questions about how much sun exposure or shade is needed for my plants to survive our always changing climate in Colorado. We can’t even garden right now. We’re still in the 20’s for lows at night. Heat wave today! It’s going to be 62! Yay! I’m chomping at the bit to swing into full on gardening mode! 🤗🌷🌺🌸🌷💐🐞🪲🌻
Hi Janie,I just saw a great garden idea for you! To paint your tree supports black! They’ll disappear into the garden with that color! Try it with a piece of cardboard behind spray!🌸
Janie, you are a delight to listen to, and the information you share is top notch. I am in Zone 5b, so I am in a holding pattern for planting for another couple of weeks -- snow/cold rain expected this week. I am living vicariously through online gardeners like you. What a beautiful garden you have. Thanks for your channel.
That sunny window box is going to be stunning! I love to combine chartreuse and purple. The past few years, I’ve used Lemon Coral Sedum and Supertunia Mini Vista Indigo as my full sun flower bed border. It is always gorgeous, and so low maintenance. As always, thanks for sharing your garden.
OK .. now I need to find room for these !! 😁🍃 I think I need a bigger garden .. lol BEAUTIFUL !!! Thank you Janey for today’s lesson .. I always learn so much 💛🪴✨
gosh I am so glad you discussed this topic! It’s always been a little confusing to me because of certain flowerbeds around my home. For example, the bed in front of my home is west facing like yours, BUT I have an Oak tree in front of it that covers a lot of that afternoon sun.. So after charting the sun exposure, found out Im getting like 3 hours of afternoon sun 🥴. I’m trying to find more sun or shade/ sun to shade plants now. Your window boxes turned out beautiful! Loved this informational and fun video!
Good explanations. I still struggle with my west facing window box that gets 3 hours of hot sun.12 to 3. I like the coleus you used, or I was thinking of surefire begonia.
Those are going to look great! I am doing a lot of my containers this year & I'm soooo super excited about it! They're going to be primarily purple & like green, with a touch of white. & then I'm going to try to plant a couple up in a very tropical design/colors. I like how Casey @ The Lawrence Family Garden Farm plants her containers & window boxes look! They're so beautiful & tropical looking!
So pretty!! I have the hardest time finding plants for my west facing front beds. They get shade until about 2, then get blasted by hot North Texas afternoon sun for about 2 hours, then dappled shade from a tree until evening. 🤔
Nice very informative. Zone 9b here. Can you do video where you come across pvc water line but wanted to plants around it. I'm planning to mass plants sunjoy gold pillar shrub. Thank you.
That blue/purple and lime green planter is going to be gorgeous; I planted something similar but since the traditional PW ipomoea is so vigorous; I used the Medusa maybe I will have less maintenance.
Oh i love my window box! I bought the same one & feel the same way. Its absolutely beautiful but i have a hard time keeping it clean bc of bird poop!🤣😂 we’re still having frosts, so i am patiently waiting for Mother’s day when we’re typically in the clear to start planting!
Honeysuckle is invasive in my zone 6b, WV. We have it everywhere! When I first started watching your videos, I was shocked you were growing it, lol! Honeysuckle takes over our trees and kills them, and anything in it's way! Have a great day!
Helen, I noticed it made its debut last Summer here in my Zone 6 yard too! In a few different places. Birds or wind must have carried seeds? Anyway, I'll try to get rid of it soon...
I recently charted the sun movement across my areas because I really couldn't tell! The most confusing is my north-facing front patio, which is generally full sun (despite stereotypes about north walls), but some spots are more dappled/part sun depending on how the angle of the sun throws tree shadows. I'm in 8a Alabama, so that afternoon sun can get pretty harsh! I am verrrrry cautiously trying out some Proven Winners macrophylla hydrangeas there.
I’m in zone 8b Alabama and my side yard (that needs landscaping badly) faces north. I have a fence running west to east. And part of the day it’s in shade then afternoon full sun. I’m also going to plant macrophylla hydrangeas ( nikko blue) the only spot it’s really shaded is up against the house, I have planted some climbing roses against the fence and once they reach the top it will be full sun. I plan on putting the hydrangeas in front of them. 🤞hopefully it will work out. The home I just moved from the Nikkos faced the hot south sun all day ,they grew beautiful but they did wilt at the hottest part of the day.
Both are really just lovely, can't say I like one better than the other. Just a thought about the kitchen box, have you considered painting the drip gray,. Just my 2 cents.
Isn’t your garden tour coming up soon? So excited for you, your garden is beautiful. Wish I lived closer, I’d come to your garden 😊 such good information as always.
I was scrolling through the comments looking for a question just like this. I have hanging baskets under a porch that face West. Is there a category for just a few hours of afternoon sun?
Growing up, we had lots of them in our Southern California garden and neighborhoods. They were landscape staples then, not sure nowadays since I don't live there anymore. I think they're poisonous for kids and animals and that's why many families don't want them?
@@alcg3981 you will be surprise how cold hardy some varieties are ... Oleander, 'Atlas Nain De Tidili' , it's pink oleadner and super hardy. i think you will have no problem growing it near Paris . greetings from Bulgaria/ Varna
My Zone 3 ground still isn’t thawed and is slightly snow covered so today I’m going to stand in my garden and pretend I’m a tulip. 🌹
🤣 that’s a good one Peggy! 🇨🇦

Which proven winner distributor do you purchase your plants from? They always look so nice. Mine always arrived a little damaged
Your neighborhood garden tour is getting close, right? Are you getting nervous? The crazy weather has everything behind schedule
It’s soon, but I’ll be ready 😉

So what do you buy if you only have 2 hours of hot afternoon sun?
What would you call an area that gets about 3 hours of late afternoon/west sun?
How would you classify an area that gets 3 hours of afternoon sun only?
I was scrolling through the comments looking for a question just like this. I have hanging baskets under a porch that face West. Is there a category for just a few hours of afternoon sun?
What will coleus be called next year? 😄Let's hope the plant taxonomists have made up their minds this time.
