    Angel Policies & Copyright
    There seems to be a lot of confusion following our recent Masterboard Prompt, especially regarding the use of stamped images and whether it is legal to use them in our Masterboards and then copy them for our own personal use.
    Kylie and I have carried out an extensive amount of research regarding this, and it is our conclusion that if you scan or photocopy your Masterboard for your own PERSONAL use, even if you have stamped an image on it, you are NOT IN BREACH OF COPYRIGHT.
    There are no terms of use on stamp packaging because the term ANGEL POLICY is not a legally recognised one. You as the buyer would have to agree to the terms and conditions PRIOR to the purchase of the stamp. No contract has been established between the copyright holder and the buyer and the Angel Policy is therefore NOT legally enforceable.
    Many of the common stamps we all use have been created from images in the public domain, and these are not copyrightable and you are free to use them as you wish. A stamp can be copyrighted, however for the copyright to be granted, the image would have to be be changed so significantly from one in the public domain (for example a butterfly or a flower) that it was not recognisable from the original image.
    Please be clear that we would not condone copyright infringement and we ourselves would never knowingly do so. We are referring here to a very specific use and would always suggest that if anyone is unsure about their use then they look at Copyright Law.
    If anyone requires any further clarification, there is a great site which contains a wealth of valuable Angel Policy and Copyright information if you are interested.

    I wonder if a small cheap scented wax melter would work? I just LOVE ALL your creative ideas! I’m a zoologist/field biologist. I thought I was “brilliant” when I placed a piece of cheap Kleenex tissue over dried flowers to give the appearance of handmade paper! Then I saw you do it with feathers! Even MORE BRILLIANT!! Now I can use my collection of feathers! I’m so glad you tried encaustic wax, I’ve been debating trying my hand at it! That and eco prints.... which I’ve not been too successful at. I’m not an artist, but I’m a biologist. Nature gives one little one of a kind masterpieces everyday... if you keep your eyes open!

    I use the beeswax to impregnate paper to make it more translucent. Can't really write over it once the wax is applied, but it colors the paper and makes the paper look and feel really nice. Just heat the wax and rub the bar over the paper to be precise or dip the paper into melted wax. I have a Ranger melting pot. I pressed the paper with an iron to thin out the wax.

    Encaustic! Oh, so close to my heart. Once you try it, you are sunk! But Nina, your masterboards are beautiful and what a genius idea to marry them to the encaustic wax....I must make masterboards, and then have copies onto different kinds of papers, you are amazing and I just can’t thank you enough for sharing your wonderful ideas! Thank you so much! I’m not a Facebook person, but I really do want to get in on your group, so thank you for that tip as well. Hugs from far far away🤗

    I’ve wanted to try this for a while. I watched a bunch of videos. Yours turned out great. If you wanted the master board to be more translucent to see more of the ledger underneath, I think you may use wax on the ledger layer and then fuse the master board to the under layer instead of the Mod Podge between the two.

    an idea for cleaning your waxing brushes. put down a towel or rag, a few sheets of newspaper, the brush, more newspaper, another rag, then go over the top with a very hot iron. the newspaper will absorb the wax and it shouldn't get on the clothes. this is also a great way of cleaning up melted wax that got on a carpet or rug. or set up the rag and newspaper, put the brush on top and just use a hair dryer or heat tool to melt it onto the paper.

    A very nice result. I try to minimise using animal products so I don’t want to buy natural hair brushes, so I’ve been experimenting with alternatives; if anyone has any suggestions please let me know. So far I’ve used a silicone brush and palette knives. The choc melter looks like a good idea. Hot
    plates with cake tins etc seem popular and I’m on the lookout for a mini one. Another option is an electric wax pot. I made my own medium using beeswax and damar resin, and an old pan as it worked out cheaper.

  • @joannecarroll5504
    @joannecarroll5504 4 роки тому

    I realise we all have different budgets, but art can be as expensive as you make it. You can buy a wax warmer or a bain-marie etc if you really want to, or you can just buy a $5 USB powered tea mug warming pad & just warm your wax in a little tinfoil patty cake pan. Use a cheap pack of Crayolas & a few more foil pans to add any colour until you can afford another warming pad to make your life easier. You can even go old school & make double boilers with cheap pots from a charity shop. As far as the medium, group together with friends for the 1st bag & split the cost, then decide if you like it. Just like any art medium.

      Hi Orzatina. I am new to the world of encaustic, but I think encaustic medium is reasonably durable. I’m certain that if you put it near a source of high heat (near a window in height of summer) it would start to melt. As far as scratching is concerned, like anything you would need to be careful, but the surface can always be refused and polished again. Its a very tactile medium, and one I’m looking forward to experimenting more with 💕💕💕

    It is Encaustic, you should use in a well-ventilated area, garage.. and wear a respirator. I work with this Med. also. There are many artist who use oil sticks and Encaustic wax. You should Google for the safety aspect of this art. What is "Master Board?" Beautiful piece you made. Thank you

      Thanks LeeAnn. I do have some oil sticks so might give them a try. A Masterboard is a ‘Master’ that can be used to create several pieces. I always scan and copy mine and keep the originals.

    I use bars of beeswax to coat my threads, etc.

    Regarding your issue with smoothing out the top of your project.... While I realize encaustic art is not the same as resin pouring, I’ve been watching a resin artist here on UA-cam called pouring your heart out. She tries a bunch of different techniques and products and it seems that resins can be a bit tricky. If your heat gun or dryer is blowing out a lot of air quickly, you may be blowing the resin around too much. You might try finishing with a creme brûlée torch or long-stick lighter, perhaps even your iron. Not sure if the medium reacts the same, but heat plus nitrous oxide from the live flame also helps to get rid of air bubbles that can occur in resins. But I’ve never actually done it, so it may not work lol.

    The effect is beautiful, I have the coloured wax, I may have clear in the set, do you think that would work? 😊💕🧚‍♀️

      I can’t see any reason why not. I hope you try it and find out 💕

    I could imagine a water bath, the microwave or even an oven would work to melt the wax as well.

      I wouldn’t recommend the microwave as wax is toxic if overheated, you also need a way of keeping it at a constant temperature to be able to work with it. Someone suggested plug in cup warmers which are very inexpensive. Its such a fun medium to try 💕

      Hello Fayy, I made the papers myself and share them in these two videos here ua-cam.com/video/kXeNwulVkrM/v-deo.html, ua-cam.com/video/w2WPCWnZbAI/v-deo.html. Encaustic medium is a mixture of bees wax and damar resin. Enjoy 💕

    Do you think I could use utee instead of the medium, it’s quite expensive and I have some utee. Thank you again for sharing, love it.

      You can actually use a regular household candle, but make sure you work in a well ventilated area. Utee is worth a try too, but make sure you work on a sturdy substrate or the Utee will probably crack. I hope that helps. Happy Creating 💕

      @@NinaRibenaMixedMedia I did hear you say about the candle, but like you say it will melt if in the sun, I'll give the utee a try, it can be remelted as many times as you like and it turns a beautiful caramel colour when you use it more than once. Thanks again Nina.

    Had a question m'am so if you make coasters doing this encaustic wax art you think we can keep a hot cup of tea or coffee on the coaster. I mean the heat would not melt or destroy the wax

    • @NinaRibenaMixedMedia
      @NinaRibenaMixedMedia  4 роки тому

      I am fairly new to working with encaustic but my instinct suggests that the coasters would melt. Bees wax will melt if exposed to temperatures above 62 degrees. I hope that helps

    What a lovely effect! Does the encaustic medium have a smell to it? 💕💫

      Thanks Debbie. The wax has a very slight smell, but only if you put your nose right up to it. Its very tactile and feels wonderful to the touch 💕

    encaustic medium is expensive - can't you just use bees wax and use mod podge (PVA glue) as a sealant ?
