    This is the best template I have ever seen to track skills. How do you measure the capability score such as 2, 3 & also how do you propose that we assess the progress?

      Good Morning @icemangrins - thank you for your excellent feedback. Within the template there is a basic 'capability policy' which outlines what is meant by level 1,2,3 and so on. You can change this to your needs. What we find works really well is the capability policy outlined on upleashed.com website (go to their home page and scroll down towards the bottom) - this will help to remove any ambiguity and make the scoring objective. In relation to tracking progress, you can do this by locking in snap shots of the spreadsheet to review over time.     I think this is great and very useful. I wonder how many companies with say, over 50 employees utilize a skills matrix. I was actually looking for a qualification matrix that could provide me information on fellow employees experience as I move towards building internal continuous improvement teams and ended up here in my search.

    This is absolutely brilliant! I would love to learn how to create this kind of spreadsheet bc I'm not advanced in excel. 3:40 Are the expectations automatically generated in the report? How does this section work?

      Hi Siphesihle - thank you for your message and kind comments. We've put many many hours into developing this template to help professionals like yourself identify training opportunties and improve team capability. The expections (targets) are a count of all level 3 or above (e.g capable). So if an individual is level 2 for 10 skills and you set a target for the individual to reach level 3 for all 10 tasks then the expectation would be -10. As the individuals current capability improves tasks by task up to level 3> then this number will go down (this is evidencing that the skills gap is closing and the individual is improving their knowledge and capability.     I didn't hear it addressed directly in the video but I think you also need some rather concrete and explicit thresholds at which you can say a person has become "proficient" or "masterful" at a given skill. This is a very subjective decision and it can create stress on a team if it's not handled carefully.

      Hi Chris, thanks for your message. You are 100% right. Having a clear, unambiguous capability policy is essential. With the matrix we include a default summary, akin to what is shown on this page www.upleashed.com - scroll down to capability policy. This makes the stage of development clear so that anyone rating (individual or team leader) would come to the same conclusion. It’s also important to consider that skills degrade if not regularly performed and that external factors such as industry changes, regulatory changes etc can impact how the process or skills works and therefore the capability level too will be impacted.     This is great! I have a question on some of the formulas though. There's a whited-out section that feeds into the visible formulas. One of them is the "where a score exists (cur)" which has a formula that starts with: "=IF(G24="",0,IF(G24="X",0,4))+IF(G27="",0,IF(G27="X",0,4))+and so on..." My question is why are we using 4 in this formula? Is it because there are only 4 capability levels?

      Dear Alan,
      Thank you for your thoughtful questions and the positive feedback. I appreciate the time and effort you've invested in reaching out to us.
      In response to your query, the template you're referring to incorporates a comprehensive scoring algorithm. This includes pre-defined rating levels assigned to each employee based on their specific skills and competencies. These levels are as follows:
      'x' indicates an exemption from learning a particular skill
      '1' signifies the employee is not yet fully capable but is required to be skilled
      '2' denotes some capability, with training underway
      '3' means the employee is capable and training is complete
      '4' implies the employee is an expert and is capable of training others
      These ratings are each associated with a percentage weighting, as such: 'x' is exempt from the algorithm, '1' is 25%, '2' is 50%, '3' is 75%, and '4' is 100%. The algorithm automatically calculates the summary scoring for each individual, the team score, as well as the difference between the current and target scores.
      With respect to your question about 'objective' scoring, this is accomplished by simultaneously applying a well-defined 'capability framework'. This framework outlines the specific objectives required to achieve each rating level. For instance, a rating level '2' might be defined as having completed more than 75% of the required training, with the ability to independently perform the task, but evidence of consistent quality and productivity is not yet established. All complex output at this level would require checking and verification. By having these precise descriptions for each rating level, you can be assured that the scores are objective, with no room for subjectivity or bias.

    how to compute the current skill capability and target skill capability per staff?

      Hi Mike. Thanks for your message. The scores are calculated based on 1 = 25%, 2 = 50%, 3 = 75% and 4 = 100%. When you score an individual against multiple skills, the excel file will automatically calculate the 'overall' score. So for example if an individual is required to be capable in 5 skills and their scores are 1,2,2,3,2 then the overall score will be the average of these, so Average(25%,50%,50%,75%,25%) = 45% overall score. When you then set upskill targets, say for example you would like the individual to be level 3 at everything, then the average score will be 75% and the system will show you the 'skills gap' of 30%. All of the calculations are done automatically for you in this template.     Hi there, I downloaded the template but it contains a few data and some advertising about the company. Then I wanted to buy it but it is showing me some packages for 6 people or teams members but I wanted just for me. Also, do I have to have a high level of excel knowledge to work on them?
