I think you're right to a point but I understand how she feels. When someone has struggled their whole life with being low income AND has Health problems and they still made it, it's hard to listen to people complain. It's very hard to watch people not even try to make it and want things to come easy, with little effort. These people would rather tell you that you are doing it wrong than put out the effort to learn how to be frugal. I agree that she is a little too sensitive because of her life and reading SO MANY Comments that we never even see. I think a few people's comments were only meant to communicate, but were taken more personally than they were meant. I understand why she is frustrated. Some people, even if they aren't criticizing and are the nicest people, still just don't quite get what she is saying. 😊

You are right! It is wisdom that so many people lack. Right now, if we are wise, we can still stay within a budget and get groceries. I shop like you do. I refuse to buy over priced items. I stock up on sale items that I will use. I have done this for over 30 years. I thank my mother for teaching us this way.

I agree, and it’s “monkey see monkey do”. Being in the minority on this is an exciting adventure filled with memorable stories and plenty of savings. I actually meet beasts who eat out every meal and go to coffee shops, if they’re piggish they go from restaurant to restaurant until they disable themselves physically and financially and will to you too. I shopped excellent clearance racks and just got back from a clearinghouse with lots of excellent coffee pods for a fraction of the price

I think you and your mum are fantastic, some people need to see hard times to understand your ways of shopping and stretching food ,I have learned so much from your ideas ,thank you all the way from Irish mother in the UK
Our family of six used to live with my husbands grandmother and aunt. Frequently, his mom was there as a caregiver to grandma. I fed everybody. Its been quite the change from feeding nine to feeding six. Our refrigerator overfloweth with leftovers. Lol
@@staycalminthestorm I buy a lot of name brand that is cheaper than off brand. Sales, coupons, discount stores. Sign up for favorite products on company's website. I give feedback about products, enter contests etc. Happy saving mula Bay Laurel!!
I agree 100% with you, Had a young couple who wanted my help with saving money and stocking a pantry.Didn't take long to figure out they just wanted someone to cry the blues too. I've been doing this for 40 years and I am still learning new things from you and Jill. I support you.
I'm in Canada with 2 kids. The 3 of us live off of my pay check. Thanks to you and a few other youtubers I've changed how I shop. Instead of meal planning with recipes I now meal plan around sales and have managed to build up a 3 month pantry for us. I find if I need junk food I will buy 1 no name item and use the difference to buy 2 cans of fruit or veggies for my pantry. So thank you for your expertise and advice, some of us are listening to you and appreciate you!! P.s. thank you for the ebook!!!
Les Brown tells a story about a man walking down a street and as he passes one house, he sees a man sitting on the porch and a dog is lying next to him. The dog is just moaning and moaning. The man asks the owner, "Why is the dog moaning?" The owner says, "He's moaning because he is lying on a nail." The man then asks, "Why doesn't he just get off the nail?" "It doesn't hurt enough for him to get off." That's the complainers. They are lying on nail and just moaning about it.
You go girl! You are my sister from another Mother. My Wonderful Mom taught me by her example to purchase food when it was affordable. She always made a grocery list. We always sat down to dinner with each other at the table. We ate after thanking God for our food. Mom only bought watermelon after July 4th.
Do NOT quit! We enjoy your channel and learn from you. Questions and challenges mean you're sparking important conversations. They are a natural part of the learning process. Thank you for all you do.
We paid our house off early thanks to Tawra and Mike. We paid it off in just 10-1/2 years! We never had credit cards (by choice), drive an older model car (by choice), I plan our meals around sales and stock up at the super sales. I use the Dining on a Dime cookbooks because it doesn't just save us money, the recipes are hands down THE BEST ever. We cut cable and don't regret it. Listen people! They know what they are talking back. They don't just talk about it - THEY LIVE IT! So those that criticize Tawra need to wake up and try it or shut the heck up. This whole pandemic time my husband and I never was late on a bill plus we have had enough food in stock to actually help other families if they needed it. We live well, thanks to Tawra and Mike!
Dave Ramsey isn't the only one with good advice. Im sure he had his mentors too. Different platforms for different folks. If you want to read the book, go read it and stay off this cannel if you don't like it.
Hi. You called out my comment. I am so sorry it offended you. I did not mean it the way you took it. My comment was not a complaint. I was a single mom for years. I know how to live on little very little money. I appreciate all the advice and tips you give me. We have been debt free for years and I do not take that for granted.
I shop at a store in Toronto called No Frills and it is just that. They have warehouse style shelves and the stock boys stock during the day, that can get irritating, but their prices are low as a result. Stores like Loblaws and Metro are prettier and they stock mostly at night, but you see it in the prices. Walmart may have the "lowest prices", but they don't hold a candle, overall, to No Frills.
THANK YOU for the book!! Your tips are great and I'm sorry you are feeling so troubled with all these people that can't see what is right in front of them. But I'm so happy to have found your advice and it is greatly appreciated over here :)
The thing is, that when you get into the groove of sale shopping and frugal living, it doesn’t take much effort at all and it becomes a game that I like to play. There are a few things I pay full price for, but I know what is gonna go on sale that I like. Am lucky, years of frugal living have paid off for me at the bank.
Yes!! It's like hunting! The thrill of using sales, coupons and store cards and getting a grocery bill down to $130 from $300! Uuuh....hello? It works! Put in the work, pretend you're I. "The Hunger Games" armed with that arsenal in instead of a bow and arrow ( which I got free from Bass Pro using their points card buying clothes ON SALE.). IT CAN BE DONE!
I came across a blog where ppl were complaining relentlessly about your videos.... It was rediculous, especially since the same ones were griping about multiple videos which means they continued to watch..those idiots just want to stay in their miserable predicaments and complain .... I love your family's videos! Keep doing what you do lady, and let the trolls hit the bricks! 🌹😊
We are now retired and we can now Afford more for groceries....but I’ve always shopped exactly like you do and I will NEVER change and throw my money away by buying things not on sale. Thank you for being a strong voice for debt free living.
It always depends how serious one is and/or desperate to change long standing habits. Sacrifice isn't easy but long term gratification and goals are definitely worth it. Sending Love & prayers 🙏❤ have a great week. You break things down so thoroughly. Thanks very much for all your effort and time!
My regular store is about 20/25 minutes away and I go once a week. About once a month, I skip this and drive almost an hour to Aldi and a nearby discount store that has expired/damages/overstocks from the warehouse clubs. It's worth the time and effort for the savings.
Don't lose heart. You have helped so many through the years. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do. You have helped us (personally) so much. Thank you. May God continue to bless you for all you have done. Hang in there and please don't give up. You will continue to help others that need it. We love you and your family.
Ok, I just asked my Retired Parents who live on Pension & SS. They spend $100 a month in Groceries for the 2 of them. She says “Portion Control is key” ❤️
I am in Australia and our food is expensive, however all your principles are still relevant and can be practiced. Its just about adapting to suit our area, budget etc
I’ve long since given up how to help family and friends. Normalcy bias seems to be a disease for some. I have for years tried to help my brother change his ways. He’s 60 years old now and doesn’t have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of. Still he can spend $20 a day on cigarettes and Starbucks coffee. We were totally debt free, including paying off our farm and car, before we were 50. My brother thinks he’s gonna come here when things get bad; we had to set him down and explain to him we tried to give him guidance for years, but he didn’t want to listen. Now it’s too late. Now he’s no longer speaking to us...
I only buy on sale. And if the produce is in season. I feel it's a waste of money if we don't eat it. When food got out of hand during the pandemic, I told my husband we are stocking up and not buying any items unless they go on sale then we are stocking up again. I feel this is the best way we can get ahead and use coupons with our sale items. Thankyou!
Some folks literally see their potential wealth go up in smoke. I have a neighbor who does this. Smokes all the time and never seems to have any money.
Your right on point period ,I spend for a family of 5 maybe 500 hundred a month but I have extra stored when I got it on sale. I have enough to last a year if I couldn't afford to buy anything . Thank for channel. Love learning new things
I don't care if anyone else has ever shared a message like yours. It needs to be said again and again. Different platforms for different folks. I appreciate the straight talk and encouragement. Keep up the good work. People need to hear it and if they don't like it they can leave. No apostasy here!! Amen
I'm a fan of the "clearance" bins for meats, etc. Also, I have an Aldi about 10 miles away which is great. BTW, I picked up avocados and mangoes there for 39 cents recently.
So glad to hear "don't buy watermellon except in July and August " I told my husband not to buy a watermelon for mothers day because it was about $8.00. I was feeling like maybe I was being too fussy to not want to pay that much for a watermellon. But now u just confirmed that I made a good decision! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I don’t comment enough to tell you how much I appreciate all you and Mike and Jill do! I enjoy the pep talks and I love Vol. 1 & 2 of Dining on a Dime. It is literally the only cookbooks I use. I used to spend $800-$1000 a month on just groceries for my family of 5 in Northern California. And now I spend $500-$600 a month. And that’s in NORTHERN CALIFORNIA! so thank you so much for all you do. For all of those nasty comments, there are lots of us here that love what you do and we probably just don’t take the time to leave a nice comment as often as we should. God Bless you all! ❤️
Ok. So I do in home daycare so breakfast and lunch I have 9kids to cook for. Dinner is us 4. We ate out alot of the weekends and our portions were out of control. I got your ecourse 3 weeks ago and let it sit. I got your cook books last week. I have been watching you videos for several weeks. I finally decided to STOP MAKING EXCUSES and get started. Shopped the sales last weekend, started cutting our portions and stopped eating out. I am keeping track of our savings this month and am so excited to give you the total at the end. Thank you for doing what you do and being so stern. Thats what changed my attitude is the no BS and get it together. ❤
PREACH! 👏👏 Thanks in part to you all, we are completely debt free in our late 20s/early 30s and are on our way to being rich! And no, we don’t have any rich uncles! We just choose to NOT keep up with the Jones’s and to NOT eat our paychecks! Love you guys!!
Just took a second look at my grocery list and checked my prices... saved a good amount just by switching name brand for store brand. Thanks for the reminder that it does take more work/effort but you can save if you try! ❤️
You are so right, I was a single mother with 2 children in the 80’s living on 50 lbs of potatoes and military can spaghetti, state cheese and butter. My mom did teach use three girls to eat off the land and out of a garden that went a long way too. My mom came from the coal mines in West Virginia she was brought up on gravy biscuits and beans, we never went hungry, and we never knew we were poor either. I am the wealthiest woman because of my mom, her wisdom, perseverance, and love. Thank you and keep doing what you are doing
You should write a book, I think people would find it interesting, I’m from the U.K. I’m 60 with an 18 year old who’s lifestyle is totally different to my upbringing. We were hard up as kids but my mum always fed us and kept us clean
I totally agree with you. Something I've noticed though looking at others around me is that people are buying more food because they are eating pretty much every meal like it was Thanksgiving dinner feast time.
(We live in South Carolina) I agree with you, we are 100% debt free too. Debt free, but we did without many things that a lot of people think they can't go even one day without. Common sense is a wonderful thing. We're not perfect, but we do have common sense.
Conveinence foods will get ya everytime. I used to spend $50-$60 a month on a soda addiction before and only God knows how much money I blew on eating out/convienence foods. Love your channel Tawra! You and Jill are helping so many people!
I am just one of many who needs your's , Jill's and Mike's knowledge and guidance. I have learned so much from ya'll. I'm digging out of debt and saving lots of money at the grocery store. Thanks for what you do !!
I went to Kroger grocery store today and bought everything I need to feed 7 people breakfast, lunch and supper for $48.00 I only buy what is on sale. No junk food people!
I am like you. I have set dollar amount for things I buy. Only buy on sale and buy store brands. Only buy clothes from thrift stores and yard sales. Never buy new furniture either. We are 100 % debit free and have a nice net worth. I have taught my daughters my fungal ways. We make a game out of it. Who can get the nicest outfit for the lowest price at the thrift store.
@@karenandrew2936 I went thrifting with my aunt for college clothes. I bought some HIGHEND clothes there for a pittance. I still have some of them. The pants look good still, and a blazer that was a bit different I still get compliments on...decades later.
Publix in Florida every Thursday has but I get 1free (for the week) , I have enough coffee for 6 months, laundry detergent for 1 year etc.. due to these sales..
I had a store manager a Publix tell me if I shop only the sales I would find prices were comparable to any other store like Kroger's etc. I don't go there often, maybe once a month but he was right.
@@margaretbedwell58 .... of course the store manager is right! Most supermarkets get volume discounts from the wholesaler or manufacturer. Eat what is on sale is our mantra. Blessings
I've just recently found your videos and truly enjoy them! I need a coach to keep me working on my debts, my food bills, and my faith. Thank you for your advice!
I only buy organic, non-canned and nitrate free foods. In many of my habits I am the opposite of Tawra. HOWEVER I have been following her and her family for years and by shopping carefully, only sale items, only in season products, no prepackaged products and applying a hardcore zero waste attitude in the kitchen I have almost CUT MY GROCERY BILL IN HALF!! Thank you for all you do Tawra ♥️
Thank you for all of your help. You have helped me, and now I budget, and live in my means. It took me until I was 68 but I have done it. Thank you again.
Preach it sister! I agree 100%. We spent a lifetime preparing for retirement and then my husband passed very suddenly. Now I am alone and I have limited income and I am doing fine. I have never bought groceries that weren't on sale. I try to spread the word and get blasted too - don't feel bad. Some people aren't happy unless they are griping. Thank You
I have been watching for about 2 1/2 years now and with all of your advice I have paid off all my credit cards and got a 30 year home loan down to 15 years and paying extra on my home to get it paid off as soon as possible. Trust me she knows what she’s talking about!! Thank you thank you thank you!!
Well, thanks to you and Mike...my husband and I will pay off our credit card debt in July...in Dec 2017 we started with 24, 500...we have paid 540 (270 every two weeks) towards our credit cards...when one gets paid off...we use that money to pay towards another...so, please know...you do have people listening...we are a couple of them...next, will be our mortgage.
I started watching after two hurricanes in a row awakened me to taking a hard look at my stores of food and what I was spending. I REALLY appreciate the information you share. Some things should have been common sense to me but I had missed them. You clearly and simply share in a very helpful way and it’s deeply appreciated. ❤️☀️
I've been buying your cookbooks for years and you have totally changed my way of grocery shopping and cooking! Love your channel. Sure would like to see another Jill video!!!
Oh my gosh! My mom taught me how to shop the sales when I was 16 years old. You are RIGHT. The sales prices are still the same as they were 5 years ago, if not longer.
I watched the video because it is spot on good advice and all the practices my mother always used. I was so happy to watch this video and then was unexpectedly rewarded with your offer at the end. Took you up on the offer and am excited to look it over and use it. Had already bought your 2 cookbooks. Thank you so much!
They made dumpster diving illegal here about 15 years ago. Grocers can't put out their old, but edible, stuff on tables for free anymore. No more free produce for farm animals. Sad all the food that goes to waste for no good reason. We used to get so much then. Lots of free day old bread. Would make pies and jelly from not so pretty free fruit. It's been a long time since seeing old bananas for $1 to make banana bread so guess those are thrown away as well.
This is the first video of your I have seen and I love you! I love how you tell it how it is and do not sugar coat it! We're debt free but still work on lowering our food bills. Can't wait to learn from you!
Thanks for the ebook! I'm grateful for Aldi in our metro area. We have seven within 25 minutes! Every week I go to the nearest one and spend around $110-$120 for my family of seven. Then over to Walmart and spend another $20 or so. Today my 7-yr-old son noticed the watermelon at Aldi and wanted to get one, around $6/$7. I told him "No, we'll get one in the summer when they cost less."
I really appreciate the tips you share in your videos. At our home my husband does the shopping and cooking because I'm no longer able. I have to sit him down, sometimes, and help him understand that we don't have an unlimited money supply for groceries. It has helped to use your cookbooks. Thank you for the sharing of your e-book. It will be an added help. 💜
We grew up in poverty. We never went hungry. Mom would cook what was the most frugal. She also foraged for nature’s bounty, such as apples, blackberries, Polk salad, fish out of the pond. She never had any food assisted and raised 4 healthy children🤗

I live in Southern New Jersey and your sale prices were very similar to our sale items. The only item where there was a big difference was milk. I totally agree with what you are saying.
$800 for TWO people? 😲 I feed a family of 8 (also in Florida) for $400 a month (including food, toiletries, TP, etc.), and it's not even hard. It just takes some thought. I'm a Millennial, and yeah, my generation didn't have home ec, but we have grown up with access to more information than any group in history. Everything I've learned about how to run a home, I learned from the internet and my grandparents who lived through the Depression.
Good for you! Someone with critical thinking skills. The information is out there if only people would look. Fortunately my foster mom trained me well !
When I started to coupon, sales, eat at home, no need to spend $$ on so many cleaning supplies either! You darn right! $250 goes along ways for 2 people with 2 dogs! Thanks for telling it like it is!! 💐

That will be my reality in the next couple years. I need to freeze my favorite casseroles if I want to enjoy them :)
It gives you a lot of leftovers if you are still cooking for 6. LOL I love leftovers myself cause I don't like cooking very much.
Our family of six used to live with my husbands grandmother and aunt. Frequently, his mom was there as a caregiver to grandma. I fed everybody. Its been quite the change from feeding nine to feeding six. Our refrigerator overfloweth with leftovers. Lol
Freeze extras, that works for us
Became empty nesters 3 years ago, wife is still learning. Lots of leftover nights as a result. LOL.
So very true. No soda, no special drinks, make coffee at home, I buy things on sale and stock up. I have been doing this for over 35 years
Same here! I can't emember the last name brand thing at the grocery store I have bought either, because I always buy generic and save money :)
@@staycalminthestorm I buy a lot of name brand that is cheaper than off brand. Sales, coupons, discount stores. Sign up for favorite products on company's website. I give feedback about products, enter contests etc.
Happy saving mula Bay Laurel!!
You got where you are today by sheer will power, hard work, determination and the sweat of your brow. You have earned everything you have. Awesome !
If your store has an online price site, make a price chart of fresh v. canned v. frozen v. dried. You might find a cheaper option.
Les Brown tells a story about a man walking down a street and as he passes one house, he sees a man sitting on the porch and a dog is lying next to him. The dog is just moaning and moaning. The man asks the owner, "Why is the dog moaning?"
The owner says, "He's moaning because he is lying on a nail."
The man then asks, "Why doesn't he just get off the nail?"
"It doesn't hurt enough for him to get off."
That's the complainers. They are lying on nail and just moaning about it.
So true! I love it!
Keep up the good work. You are greatly appreciated!
Exactly!!! Completely agree.
That’s freakin GREAT 🤣
You go girl!
Awesome job, that's fantastic!
Dave Ramsey isn't the only one with good advice. Im sure he had his mentors too. Different platforms for different folks. If you want to read the book, go read it and stay off this cannel if you don't like it.
@@sharonantonissen6019 I think you replied to the wrong person. :)
Yep, they helped us get out of credit card debt and paid off the car loan 4 months early!!! Just have to pay off the mortgage now!!
Hi. You called out my comment. I am so sorry it offended you. I did not mean it the way you took it. My comment was not a complaint. I was a single mom for years. I know how to live on little very little money. I appreciate all the advice and tips you give me. We have been debt free for years and I do not take that for granted.
I don't comment much. But I love your videos I'm out of debt😎 and I'm saving on groceries. Thank you for the great advice🙏🤝👍💯🧙♂️
We are also.
Same here. And yes your right.
We help my father plant a garden and I also plant some in containers. We can and freeze for later times.
Well, I think the bigger problem is that a lot of people are just running to Walmart or some other store and not shopping grocery store prices.
I do that, I need to look around more.
I was thinking maybe whole foods, publix, or target..Walmart is not bad prices at all even for organic
You are so right. I love finding deals. It is like an adventure when I stumble on the clearance section in the store.
Hang in there, Don't let them harden your heart. Blessings to you and family.
I have tried with friends. All you can do is try. They need to be willing to make a change.
I do the same thing, I live by myself and when I see marked down meats I portion them in vacuum bags and freeze them.
I spend alot on groceries even ones that are on sale, but I'm filling the freezers and shelves for when there are none.
So glad to hear "don't buy watermellon except in July and August "
I told my husband not to buy a watermelon for mothers day because it was about $8.00. I was feeling like maybe I was being too fussy to not want to pay that much for a watermellon. But now u just confirmed that I made a good decision! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Watermelon so good!
Why not grow your own watermelon? Could eat it All Season Long!
And there is no guarantee that watermelon would have tasted good.
Hi, I am the one from California that you used in this video about me complaining! Just want to say, thank you for the FREE E Book!!! Blessings!
Well done to reduce your grocery bill like that. Congratulations

Wow Rachel that is great. You guys are doing really good and are proof it can be done. Keep up the good work.
Just took a second look at my grocery list and checked my prices... saved a good amount just by switching name brand for store brand. Thanks for the reminder that it does take more work/effort but you can save if you try! ❤️
You keep up the good work you do ... There are those of us who listen...and I want to say thank you for your dedication 💖PS please don't quit 👍
Get it together people ! Thanks for all you do, Tawra and Mike ! ❤
@@lesleyhubble2976 Does your 18 year old live in the moment, then?
I totally agree with you. Something I've noticed though looking at others around me is that people are buying more food because they are eating pretty much every meal like it was Thanksgiving dinner feast time.
(We live in South Carolina) I agree with you, we are 100% debt free too. Debt free, but we did without many things that a lot of people think they can't go even one day without. Common sense is a wonderful thing. We're not perfect, but we do have common sense.
Thank y’all so much! Be blessed and highly favored!!!
Conveinence foods will get ya everytime. I used to spend $50-$60 a month on a soda addiction before and only God knows how much money I blew on eating out/convienence foods. Love your channel Tawra! You and Jill are helping so many people!

I went to Kroger grocery store today and bought everything I need to feed 7 people breakfast, lunch and supper for $48.00
I only buy what is on sale. No junk food people!

Preach it sister! I agree 100%. We spent a lifetime preparing for retirement and then my husband passed very suddenly. Now I am alone and I have limited income and I am doing fine.
That is what smart people do. Good for you.
Not only did I listen all the way through, I’m going to watch this one again. Thanks for all your wisdom.
I watched the video because it is spot on good advice and all the practices my mother always used. I was so happy to watch this video and then was unexpectedly rewarded with your offer at the end. Took you up on the offer and am excited to look it over and use it. Had already bought your 2 cookbooks. Thank you so much!
I saved plenty on my groceries last night found about>15 lbs of cabbage. Dumpster diving. Today I went to my egg supplier got 2 18ctn of yard eggs.
Hey I know you, lol
They made dumpster diving illegal here about 15 years ago. Grocers can't put out their old, but edible, stuff on tables for free anymore. No more free produce for farm animals. Sad all the food that goes to waste for no good reason. We used to get so much then. Lots of free day old bread. Would make pies and jelly from not so pretty free fruit. It's been a long time since seeing old bananas for $1 to make banana bread so guess those are thrown away as well.
@@bettyir4302 A lots of places they did that. One problem so many people don't obey stupid laws because they violate what is natural.

Almost same amount here. Im in Florida too. 6 people.
