  • El Corte Ingles is a shopper's paradise. A large department store with a supermercado, animal hospital, nail salon, hair salons, eateries, movie theatre, and much, much more.

    Hi Kirsten! I love your warm, sweet spirit! I just came across your channel this week and plan to binge all weekend watching all of your videos!!! I retired 3 years ago, and now working on my dream (plans) to move to Portugal. Thank you for the wonderful tour of this mall. WOW!! You may have answered this question before, but since I am new to your channel and have not gotten through all of your videos, can you tell me if you and your husband speak any Portuguese? If you have some, where did you get your language training from? Lastly, thank you for being transparent and honest in your videos! That means a lot to those of us who are considering moving there. Thank you.

      Hey Devonne, welcome and thanks for watching! Love that you're planning to make your dream a reality -- you can do it! We speak very little Portuguese. A couple of months after we arrived I started working with a tutor through Italki and really enjoyed the lessons. I wasn't ready to put in the time studying outside of class time. I'm still not ready to spend time studying, even though I know that's what it'll take. We do spend a fair amount of time watching Portuguese TV, trying to understand and figure out what's happening on the shows. We can get by in shops, restaurants, etc. Also helps that we're in Lisbon where many languages are spoken. Hope this helps!

    Wow! I’ve watched videos of people point it out, and keep walking by. Most hasn’t been inside yet. That’s a whole world of stuff! On one of my forums, a woman was disappointed that Portugal didn’t have a Target. Gurl! 😆 I’ll have to share your video and channel. 👏🏾

    Hey Kirsten...We are neighbors, but too bad we are moving next week! Have you been to the Gulbenkian Museum, located in our area? It is FABULOUS and free on Sunday after 2pm!!! I love to walk the garden and we often picnic and chat with the ducks!! As for El Corte Ingles, I like it, but a bit too big...Oh, the view on the 7th floor is gorgeous and worth a drink or a piece of cake!!! The park just behind is nice as well and there's the Parque Eduardo and a lovely Cafe too!! Love it all and will miss my life in Avenidas Novas, but will go back...Great video!

      Hi neighbor, our neighborhood really has everything, right? I'm sure moving is bittersweet but sounds like you're starting an exciting new chapter with your house! We walk Gulbenkian garden all the time. Haven't been inside the museum yet, even with the free Sundays. I think we take it for granted because it's so close by. A nice spot for a drink is Linha d'Agua at the park behind El Corte Inglés. Just so many easy low-key places around here. Good luck with your move and congrats again on your house!

    I had that chocolate cake at Landeau Chiado when I was there in April. I just happened upon it when I was walking around that neighborhood. It's a lovely room with comfy chairs and I was the only one there! I can imagine it's packed in the summer. So delicious!!! I'll definitely go back it's that good! Thanks Kirsten.

    As portuguese and living in the other side of the river I always considered El Corte Inglés a nice store to visit but not so much to buy… a bit pricy for me, unless is Saldos season. It was a traditional thing (years ago) for portuguese people when going to Spain always visit El Corte Inglés stores 🤣

    • @whatsupwkirsten
      @whatsupwkirsten  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Silvia, there are a lot things out of our price range, too. We did find some excellent quality towels and bedding there for a reasonable price. I'm definitely going to browse the sales over the next week or so. I can see why it became a tradition when traveling to Spain ... it's really something to see 😀

    The type of pharmacy seen at 16:10 is called "parafarmácia", it's a kind of pharmacy that sells beauty, health products and also medication/drugs, but only those that can be bought in pharmacies without prescription (but in the parafarmácia are cheaper).
    If I'm not mistaken, at 10:44, to the right, there's entry to the subway (S. Sebastião Station)

    • @whatsupwkirsten
      @whatsupwkirsten  2 роки тому +1

      Hi António, thanks for the clarification regarding the parafarmácia. And yes, the subway entry is located right behind the florist -- very convenient. Always appreciate you watching 😀

    El Corte Ingles is, as you can guess by the name, a Spanish chain of upscale department stores. There is one in every major city in Spain. This one in Lisbon exists since the early 2000s.

    We absolutely love El Cortes Ingles! When purchased new luggage when were there in 2021. The Supermercado was amazing. Thank you for showing those other levels. We didn’t go down far enough. Also, thank you for the videos and giving me places to add to my list of places to go once we get to Portugal permanently 🙏🏾

    Hi Kristen, question... Have you travelled much prior to moving to Portugal? Coz it seems you're really having the time of your life...

    • @whatsupwkirsten
      @whatsupwkirsten  2 роки тому +4

      😂 Sergio, life's too short to not enjoy every possible moment. I'm a lemonade-out-of-lemons, glass-half-full girl. If I'm not happy with a certain situation in life, I'm going do my best to change it. We only get one life. Prior to moving to Portugal, we traveled quite a bit. In 2019 alone, we traveled to France (twice), Mexico City, Morocco, Portugal, NYC, and Hawaii. In the few years prior to that we were fortunate to vacation in Thailand, UK, Japan, Cambodia, and Singapore. We've spent a lot of time in Mexico, and lived in Playa del Carmen for a bit. So yes, we're all for the traveling life 😀 We reduced our income significantly to make this move to Portugal. Less income = less travels. Lisbon is a new city for us and we are enjoying it so much! So yes, I am having the time of my life, but I don't think it has very much to do with traveling or not traveling. I think it has everything to do with not working anymore and being fortunate enough to live in this beautiful city.

    Hello Kristen, thanks for the tour at El Corte inglés, one question: are the movies in English ( original sound) with subtitles in Portuguese? How much dors it cost the ticket? Thanks

    • @whatsupwkirsten
      @whatsupwkirsten  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Charlie, the movies are in their original language. So yes, if the original is in English, it is shown in English with Portuguese subtitles. The tickets are 6.60€. Thanks for watching!

      Hi Monty, thanks for watching. I went back and took a closer look because of the sales, and there were some things. Other stores would be C&A in the shopping malls, and Primark at Colombo mall. I'm sure there are others, but I recently just started looking. Good luck!
