These are both great cars. I don’t like when people are fanboys and are extreme about one car or another. We should all be thankful for all the choice we have and manufacturers are producing such exciting products. These are both a world away from 99% of the drivel on the roads

I’m so glad Gordo went for the MPPSK, it’s such a giggle. You drive it anti socially though, around town I open the exhaust and downshift just to hear the noise

Gordon smiled so much you could tell he loved the RS. In all versions, the Focus is a great drivers car.

The wife thing lol, my wife can't drive mine either as she can only drive auto lol which is a pain sometimes (if i'm drunk) but also a good thing because my front end stays intact and not torn off from flying over speed humps or getting caught on kerbs and all sorts....

I have to agree that both the cars are fantastic. I’m a ford guy, always have been but I’m not overly impressed by the mk 3 RS. I had and still prefer the mk 2 RS. Not having driven some of the more powerful BMW’s I cannot really say if I would prefer one over the Ford. For me a lot of the time it would come down to what I could afford and what it would cost to own a vehicle long term. So for me it was a Focus ST then moved on to the Focus RS. But yeah that said there all great cars. That’s the beauty of personal choice I guess. Happy driving an stay safe everyone 👍
The 440 sounds really meaty, but the handling of the Focus RS is on another level when you start pushing the car. The thing about the RS, is that I find the car quite boring when you're not pushing it at like 7 or 8 tenths. Thanks for sharing!
+Adam Leask I agree Adam, you do need to be using the throttle early and hard around corners to truly feel how special the Focus RS really is.

TL:DR; Hell yes, I'd have either of those. But...
An interesting comparison. The BMW didn't seem so flexible low-down, whereas the RS seems to just pick up and push you like an electric train - in the next incarnation with electric power infill it will be a monster. The upgrade does seem to have given the 440 a bit more edge and it will be interesting to see what the dyno readings are. The BMW appears to have a much more supple ride, perhaps at the cost of some precision - not a bad trade-off on real world UK roads.
As a grown-up A road commuting car though, I'd take the 440 auto over the bouncy RS any day. Actually no, scrub that, for a machine that's probably going to be in slow traffic on a 45 mile commute, I'd go with a dreaded turbodiesel and keep something interesting for the weekends. Like a B-road monster RS. I'd cringe every time I took it through a quiet and pretty country village though with all the BRRRRAPPPAPAPAP Max Power crap going on. Best left for the open road that.
I can't wait for the dynamometer test, and see just how it compares to the original curves.
Just think how cool the focus would actually be if they binned they family spec back doors
+Uk Mud ...no cooler whatsoever unless you happen to be stuck in the nineties? The number of doors makes no difference to how it drives, that's all that really matters with an RS, they're meant to be driven, not stroked and started at.

440 just not compareable to the RS . 440 old mans car with a noisy exhaust. Respect the M cars but the RS is a B road work horse. You need a comparison with something in the same class and price range. Would be interesting to hear what the true drivers see how they compare.
+Jon Gray They're a similar size, similar price (after the BMW has been heavily discounted), have similar power and, as standard, have similar performance. Of course they're comparable!

Note how there is no up and down bobbing in the seat over any of the roads you drove on, you are like a cork on the ocean in the ford, constant jiggling in the seat. the Renault sports are like that too, horrible, like riding a bucking bronco.
