The SPONGES are refillable, so once you have a water purifier, you only need one. Simply put a sponge on your hotbar and select it. When your focus is on the water purifier you will have the option to refill it! It's an amazing early canteen, Thanks so much for an absolutely brilliant series of videos on getting started. I started playing with a friend about a week ago who had played Icarus before, but didn't understand a lot of the game mechanics. As a base mom who has to know everything about a game, I've learned so much that I decided to start a new character.
I've played this game a lot and it's been frustrating. I just found your channel. It is a big help and I can't wait to get back into Icarus. Thank you so much, especially for your episode on getting the "coin" for specialty items.
So just a thought, if you're making a beginner guide, maybe don't start off with "Hey let's take a bunch of stuff that's going to take hours upon hours to get if you don't blatantly exploit a system".
I wouldn't call it exploitation at all, it's not game changing stuff we're talking about. It's simply another approach that you may want to take. It doesn't take hours either.
@@IronsideGames true it's not, but for me and my son, who have never played the game before, came to watch a guide for beginners.....this is not really a beginners guide when you start with stuff already.
First incoming weather, mostly not dangerous. Enough time to get fur. Agree on, this is not a pure beginners guide with that gear. But still a lot of good hints for beginners.
Both valid points. I do feel the great is easily obtainable from the beginning though and just makes for a more stress free start. I’m tempted to redo the first episode now though lol
@@IronsideGames there is a way complete remove everything, all chars, items and so on, to make a real fresh start. How to do this, you find in the official Discord. And you still can have all the stuff saved and rolled back if you want. Feel free to ask in the Discord, lot of helpful ppl there. ☺️
@@orlathemming8689 Exactly. Unless you dropped into volcano or swamp, you should be able to get furr from first few kills. Aside from snowstalker, there isn't really anything dangerous outside of those two biomes. And plenty of fur to farm. So, if you are not able to kill even two animals in forest biome (where beginners mostly start), i honestly think you need to tone down the difficulty to easy. And i don't want to be mean, but i think you should start beginners guide with fresh character :) You can keep the unlocked workshop i guess, just avoid using it. That way, you will be on the same level as completely new player, when it cames to in-game advantages. Of course, you would put yourself at disadvantage later on, when new player would save enough to buy something, if you decide to completely skip on workshop. I personally don't use workshop aside from suit with modules. But to everyone its own. I would recommend, however, if you do decide to play without workshop rather than following Orla's advice about wiping the progress, you make side video about which items are best to buy in general :) And while some items are easy to obtain, you won't have those at the very beginning, and only a bow and pickaxe makes the game completely different experience.
I am soooo glad you are doing this !!!!! I love your break down, to little "key" pieces of information !!!! I love that !!!! Those small mechanica makes playing a survival game much more fun!!!!!!! Not sure if you set your spawn point. As far as repairing your fiber suit, as long as you have 5 fiber on you. When you are in your base, click to inventory and right click each clothing piece and hit repair !!
Here's a beginners guide! First - grab a bunch of gear from previous missions. Great! I will sure to come back to this guide after finding an actual beginner's guide, when I have a bunch of stuff from previous missions. I'm sure once I actually know what I'm doing, it will be a super helpful efficient start guide. Sadly, that's not what I was actually hoping to find based on the video name.
It still works as a beginners guide. It’s simply one option available to you and IMO, one worth trying, it’s not difficult. It does give you the ultimate start.
Ok, sorry - I thought I mentioned how to at the beginning. The first mission you can do (not in open world) is easily repeatable (but if a hack but it works) if you set it to hard , ask you do is land then take off - about 150 ren a go I think. Later rinse repeat
I have already started on Open World Olympus but didnt get the suit to begin with. I had enough Ren now so purchased it but it won't let me load it into the pod to download but it does let me download the carrot pack. Please is there a way to retrieve it now it is in my workshop?
With the envirosuit, you need to use your pod to go back up to the station and equip it there by dragging it into the envirosuit slot. When going back up though, make sure you have nothing in your inventory!
@@IronsideGames I am having alot of trouble attempting this. I have gone to the pod with nothing on me. Gone back up, purchased the suit but now I cant select RESUME??? Luckily I do back ups without being synced to the cloud so I can go back to where I was. Honestly, this shouldn't be so complicated with these suits! It does look like when I go back up, I cant Resume, I have to start new
No no no, you go to load and then load into your prospect that way. You can’t resume because technically you have left that prospect with that character
You need to select hardcore mode to get 50 Ren from Beachhead mission, might as well play in hardcore mode to get more animals to skin. Also learn to hollow a large rock as a temporary shelter from passing storms.
Did I not mention hardcore? And yes to the hollowing a rock, but if you’re lucky enough (like I was) you don’t need to so getting the wood building blocks of key
Shining knife 100% Oxygen is mined through oxide nodes (bluish in colour) or picked up off the ground. You can put it straight in your suit. Best thing to do is make the oxygen bladder as soon as you can and fill it up. That will give you enough oxygen for a god gaming session. I make 3-4 to start with and just carry them, they don’t weigh much
came here for the beginner guide and right at the start, you choosing items from previous saves, as new player i had nothing ! so would have been a better guide if you started with nothing to
Agree with NumlOk i need a beginner guide to start with Nothing, you equipe yourself with all kind of gear from previous game.... Bye will go find a better REAl beginner tutorial
So a beginners guide that starts out with 1000 Ren.... not really a beginners guide is it. Oooo reading below I see I'm not alone with me thoughts. So misleading.
It is still a beginners guide as everyone can start out the same way if you choose to. Doing it this way gives you a better start and one worth trying IMO
@@IronsideGames but... I'm a beginner and I can't do this. Not even a matter of if I want to, I simply can't. Someone starting the game only has 25 Ren, not the 1000 you started with. It will take a very long time for a brand new player to hit 1000 Ren. Sorry this is not a beginners guide, it's a reroll guide for someone that has played the game a lot, and wants to start over with a new character.
@RifRafJonesy you can do the starting mission which is a tutorial and get some ren. I'm unsure if it's repeatable but it will give you ren at least the first time. If you can repeat it you can essentially get unlimited ren. This is a decent starting guide even without the gear he brings in
The first starting mission - Beachhead I think, is repeatable and takes around 15 seconds for 50 REN, so the gear is easily obtainable regardless if you're a beginner or not. I will post a video about as maybe I didn't explain it well enough at the start
