Thank you for watching our ear wax removal video today. The ear wax extraction featured in todays video was carried out using endoscopic microsuction. This procedure uses a small camera called an endoscope to visualise inside the ear canal whilst a small suction tube is inserted to gently remove ear wax.
All the ear wax cleaning videos you see on our channel are carried out by our ear wax specialists Mr Rhys Barber and Mr Taylor Green.

Ear wax plays a vital role in ear health. It helps to prevent ear infection and helps with ear cleaning by picking up any dirt or debris that accumulates in the ear canal. Normally this ear wax would fall out of the ear taking any dirt or debris with it.
How to remove ear wax?
Many people use q-tips/cotton buds for ear wax removal at home this is one of the worst things you can put into the ear as this can lead to an increased ear wax buildup or in extreme cases impacted ear wax. The best way to remove ear wax is to let your ears clean themselves and not to put anything smaller than your elbow in your ears!
How do I know if I have an earwax blockage?
If you experience a change in your hearing, discomfort in the ear or jaw or a feeling of fullness in the ear canal you may have an ear wax blockage. Our advice is to speak to your Doctor or local Audiologist who can take a look in your ears and assess whether ear cleaning is needed.

Went to see Rhys last week, very professional and excellent care :) Doubt my ears will make it into a video (no plugs, just some tlc) but if anyone is on the fence about getting your ears checked out then I would recommend the team here :)
Tonight I noticed that my daughter had a bunch of crustiness in the outside folds of her ears (not part of the canal but in the areas you would get piercings) and using my knowledge of the wonders of olive oil for ears and the moisturizing properties of coconut oil, we massaged some coconut oil in and it removed all the crust and she was happy
Its a recurring thing for her to get this crust on her ears, a few months ago it was actually nearly bleeding and very red so we got a prescribed ointment for it. Now we just have this tube of ointment that i dont know if she will ever need again, same with all the other ointments shes been prescribed for her various rashes… the life of a parent 😅
Sorry your daughter suffering that condition. I suggest you change her shampoo to a natural one too and her soap. I think it all goes hand in hand. 🥰🙏
I agree with the shampoo advice. I would also caution against the conditioner or any other products used on her hair. I had these same issues with my own ears. Making sure I rinsed the products off my ears and drying my ears off also greatly reduced the crusty scales that formed around my ears. I'm not a doctor or audiologist, just speaking of my own experiences.
Yes you’re so right. Your daughter is sensitive to these chemical products and so are you just like me speaking from my own experiences too. Wish you well 🤞❤️
😮Johnson’s Baby shampoo is really good for dry, crusty skin on eyes, face and outside of the ears.
Turbo wiggle to the rescue xx
Always
Connor and Richard are getting together in October and Richard has said he is open to doing a colab. We just need Neel on board now 😊 Ahh new category "crystallised honey 🍯" 😂
Ooh nice! Ill have to watch that
I can't listen to Neel, some of the things he says just rub me the wrong way. I think he missed his calling. Anyone who can get their head so far up their own @$$ should have been a proctologist.
I agree wholeheartedly. I simply cannot listen to him.
Unless you are in a profession where you also help people, day in and day out, I don't think you are entitled to say those things you said without stating it's your personal opinion instead of framing it as a fact.
But hey, I'm just a random swede, not giving a single f××k about which English accent I'm listening to. I have no emotional attachment to any of that in the English language, but I would bet my own ears on it (the accent and soft voice) is what hits your nerve more than his use of language and phrasing.
A little kindness and zero f××ks to give takes you further in life than toxicity @@zaphodbeeblebrox1880
This is a very cruel assumption to say about Neel. He can’t defend himself here so I will. He is a very caring kind professional educated person and goes above and beyond to help others and his patients.
Crystallized honey was a perfect description!
If the tools are single use, are they recyclable? There must be a ton of metal waste after using them.
Love your videos as always. ❤
Recyclable - good point. (But they would need a good cleanup first no? 😅)
Carbon fibre he has said
Yes, made of carbon fiber@@catesmith3011
@@marytolhurst5165 yes and I wonder if it's more wasteful to throw them away or clean them.
@@catesmith3011 thanks for the correction but my question still stands.
Love it, Rhys. You definitely need to come to the US for a visit .
I remembered you saying they were one use but I'm curious if you use the same one for both ears or is it per side as well? Maybe if there's an infection or something? Just wondering thank you for another great watch have a good night and have to get some "Tips with Taylor" they're great for info as well as entertaining 😊
Great compilation Rhys. Thank you. 👏❤️
Thanks for another great video Rhys. It was interesting and enjoyable.
Nice work with your patients today. You removed that sticky wax very nicely. Know patients are pleased with your work. My compliments Rhys.
Iowa here. Steve.
Good Evening Mr B and Mrs.B🙋🏽. Good Job 👍🏽.
Soooo cute! You crack me up when you crack yourself up!
Would love to see all of you together on a collaboration. That would be the video of the year!
Winnie the Pooh would be so jealous. imagine him getting stuck in a giant ear canal, i bet Rabbit would STILL draw a face on him and give him "antlers"
That's great and probably true
😂😂😂
I would watch that Collab!
7:33 I was waiting for a, "Out! Out I say!" 😂😂😂
I have a sprayer bottle with a tip that has multiple jets for water cleaning, how effective are those, especially after using olive oil.
Where does all the little hairs come from that are embedded in the wax and such? 😮
Very fascinating!😊
With irrigation, some experts dont recommend it as it can lead to ear infections, wouldnt it be possible to counteract this by irritating with an acetic acid/hydrogen peroxide solution rather than just water?
Just one second before you said "looks like honey" that is exactly what I was thinking!
As they are used for medical purposes I get why the tubes are single use, but is there no way they can be recycled or repurposed?
If the tubes are aluminum, do u at least recycle them?
Thank you.
oh my god.
I have laugh whenever I see the wax /skin stuff...it constantly reminds me of so many food items... raisins, figs, toffee, etc....
Have you considered accepting videos from other providers (unpublished) and critiquing them for their and our edification?
Rhys! I’m so sorry but I left for a while. I’m catching up now… Any plans to add an acne treatment center next door? 😂
I always wonder,if insects ever get stuck in there?
The scoop 💙
You sounded like a "Peaky Blinders" character😂
Please make it happen guys , I would love to see a collaboration
Is it possible to book a private appointment with a private audiologist for a hearing test for someone who already has an NHS hearing aid and can that audiologist make alterations to those hearing aids. Thanks
We tried to get a private guy to check my mum's NHS hearing aid, but he wouldn't touch it. Wanted to sell her a new one.
Very annoying because it was badly set up in the first place when they tested her in a noisy consulting room 😠
@@dshe8637 Thanks, I thought that may be the case!
Thank you for answering my question about cleaning the tubes. I do have a follow up question, if I may?
In the past, when you've shown tank shots, there is always a lot of water. But when you've used suction, there's been no water involved. As you use pope cleaners to unblock the tubes, how does the water in the tank get introduced?
I was wondering about that too!
In the split inside/outside videos they did a while ago, rather than using the pipe cleaners, as long as the suction was only partly blocked he'd suction up some water to help flush the wax down the tube. I imagine it's quicker and less fiddly than using the pipe cleaner. But I don't think it work if the tube was completely blocked, because the water wouldn't be sucked into the tube to clean it, so the pipe cleaner would be necessary.
I'm not an audiologist or anything though, that's just my best guess.
We suction the water up the tubes to keep them clear and maintain the suction. Thats where the water in the tank comes from 😊
Sticky ear wax looks better in the ear, outside the ear, it loses its a-peel
Don't call a taxi, I've got a free bus pass, I'll walk to the stop.....😅
@@Keithbarber Never apologise for a bad pun; I like it when things get cilia
Dry ring, lmao! 🤣🤣🤣
Is there a way yo prevent this much wax buildup? Ive had this problem for quite a while and have been dealing with it with one of those ear cameras with the soft scoop on the end. I know thata not ideal but id rather not wait until i get a plug get it cleaned out.
Not a doctor, but I stopped having problems after I started wearing earplugs nightly to sleep. The doctors usually reccomend olive drops every once in a while to soften it.
@df6534 wild. Usually earbuds make impacted wax worse in my experience. I wore earbuds everyday as a teenager and my plugs were way worse then. Now I wear headphones and it's kinda slowed it down. Problem is now that when eax started to build up my ears get really itchy and I end up trying to relieve the itch with my finger which of course just pushes the wax further back. My wax is plenty soft, it just doesn't like to move out of my ears.
@@HilliBilliBob Not earbuds, but foam plugs they sell for hearing protection. You squish them down when they go in so they dont touch the sides, then they expand to block sound. When I pull them out they lightly scrape the sides a bit pulling wax along. I used to get impacted wax about every 4-6 months but haven't been plugged in 8 years now, using earplugs every day. Maybe it's unrelated but I'm not about to stop! If you try it just get a couple brands to test and make sure they're not too wide/hard for you so they dont irritate your ears on the way out. Also may find it hard to sleep without them once you get used to the quiet haha
@@HilliBilliBob oh and I've seen an audiologist on a other channel say that if the inside is itchy, to push that little spur of skin on the face-side of the ear over the ear canal, then rub your finger in a little circle while pressing. It'll "scratch" it a bit without putting anything inside
just wondering, would all the disposable equipment cost a lot + cause a lot of unrecyclable waste? i feel like it would be better in the long run to autoclave and sterilise some reusable equipment 😅
I work as support staff in the medical field- it just depends on how many tubes they use in a day- autoclaves are expensive and don’t process very many instruments at a time. a practice their size might have one or two machines, but it’d be very time and labor intensive for the number of tubes they’d use in a day, as well as the autoclaves using up specially packaged distilled water and electricity each cycle.
lots of the time medical facilities don’t just throw everything in the trash, they sort equipment that may be recyclable or sharps or biohazardous and have special collection companies pick them up for safe disposal. i’ve never worked with single use endoscopy tubes so I’m not sure exactly how they dispose of them but I’m sure they decided on their method after weighing the costs and benefits of the time, materials, money, and energy that goes into sterilizing equipment for re-use
@@xmalady9506 ahhh i see, it sounds more complicated than i thought 😭 thanks for the insight!
I think some steel wool wrapped around a 3mm bit in a cordless drill would make quick work of that uncooperative sticky stuff.
Thank goodness for single use. Wish we could convince Dr's in the US to use them. Clean, scrub, autoclave or gas sterilize.
I’ve always wondered could someone have such narrow ear canals that they would need surgery to widen them ?
It is a thing! It’s called a canalplasty. It’s usually just a day surgery, the pt tends to go home same day.
@@allidonovan3790 Thanks so much was honestly curious as I wondered if it would be to delicate an area
I have very tiny ears & very tiny canals. My SIL is an ENT surgeon and said I would not be her favorite patient 😂
Not sure if you're aware or of you can do anything about it, but for
the last week or so I've seen an ad for that plastic ear cleaner with the soft swirly tip right before your video. Yes, algorithms and targeted ads, but that fits all of your subscribers, right?
Those tools look dangerous
Rys you and Conor need to use Neels right correct instead of the Jobson Horne --6 much thinner than the jobson--and the wax scope is fabulous on seeing what is going on in the ear
Rai Curette
Sorry Taylor
@@mihorsewoman have you seen Neel R videos --i know Rys and Taylor have and has great respect for him. He has created a right correct which would have gotten right in there better than any other instrument
Mr. B, the curettage tools are also a single use?
Yes all the tools we use are single use. I think that will change in the future back to sterilising
@@AudiologyAssociatesUK thank you
On your side of the pond, are audiologists “doctors”???? Asking from Florida, USA!!!
@@maryz7977 Hello. I'm in Florida too 😀
@@kyfl3309 Nice to “meet” ya!!!
Doesn’t that drive patients nuts when you wiggle those lumps in their ear? Especially when you really shake on it?
TINY ear canal. Sheesh.
I'd been meaning to ask about whether or not you used single use disposable tools or do ol school cleaning/sterilizing...ahhh...someone beat me to asking you ..arrrghhh oh well, now I got the answer . ..something for me asking
7:39 looking like a puggle.
Ear puggle lol
If I was the patient this cleaning would be tickling me, it would be hard to sit still.
Thank you so much for your comment🦻🏼
It seems so wasteful for everything to be single use! Why is sanitization no longer the method?
Is it just me or does some of this ear wax look like caramel?
...or marmalade. :)
❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉😊
I couldn't even begin to estimate the number of this type of ear cleaning videos I have watched. You by far the most impatient. It's like I'm watching a race. It's like I'm watching someone with ADD and no attention to detail try to clean something. Slow down man take your time. Strive for perfection. Practice your patience, it will only be beneficial.
