I wish they'd have picked someone else it was Patrick who carried the whole Movie He was the reason why Ppl watched and loved the movie even still today
Well…NOT quite real there. It is her that me, and every guy I knew at the time, felt that she carried the movie. That’s what made it work so well; women loved Patrick because… well, he’s Patrick Swayze, guys loved Jennifer (she truly was so beautiful before her cosmetic surgery). They got both genders right where they needed to, and still do today! My adult kids love this movie now, and my boys thinks she’s gorgeous and my daughter thinks Swayze is too. Personally, I think they nailed it with these two, can’t imagine any other actors replacing them - which is why the sequels didn’t do well.
Oh boy did that chemistry change! Here I am done 35 years later thinking that was one of my greatest moments that affected me and direction I took in dancing
@@Royalty_girlie Incredible as it may seem, since Jennifer absolutely looked like the 17-year-old character she was playing, the actress was 27 years old when she played Baby (b. 1960). She looked like a child, but she was not a child. Her very young appearance may have caused people to treat her like a teenager which contributed to her immature attitude. Patrick was eight years her senior, but the age gap isn’t what it looked like.
Patrick had been dancing his entire life. He was a professional ( much more so than his character) and expected Jennifer to keep up. The shoot was stressful for everyone.
Apparently she really irritated Patrick, especially in the lake scene where they practice lifting, he got really fed up of her laughing and acting silly. He got really cold in the water and she made the scene take so long to shoot. I think he genuinely didn't like her at all!
Tickling happened on dirty dancing but she's talking about Red Dawn the movie they did before and he always pranked her and made her feel uncomfortable.
Weren’t they just perfect together? Wonderful movie. Watched it AGAIN last night, this time the first time with my kids - passing it along the generations!
She's kidding herself if she thinks people watched this movie because of her. This movie was only successful because of him. I couldn't think of anyone else that could have made this movie as big as it was. She had a nose change which apparently cost her work, so I heard. This is the only movie I've watched more than twice because I don't enjoy watching anything over again..I've probably watched this movie atleast 20 times 😅
You were fortunate to work with Patrick both times despite you not feeling the”chemistry” and here you are trying to be relevant again, we’ll hate to break it to ya Jen…but the Chemistry that happened on set was all Patrick’s. All the best with the sequel 🙄
This is only part of the interview. She goes on to talk more about how they made it work and something about developing chemistry not those exact words but you should check it out. Context is very important.
You don’t have to like a person to have chemistry it’s just something that happens and cannot be explained. It’s the tension between her and Swayze and Johnny and Baby made it so realistic because it was really there. Swayze himself talked about it there were times that she drove him crazy and it was real and it made the movie believable. It’s why we all love it so much. I lost count how many times I’ve watched it from beginning to end lol when I’m not doing well I just pop in the dvd and watch it always makes me feel better:)
Fun fact: Patrick met the love of his life at his mothers dance studio. As a VERY young man. Was with her until the end. I'm sure that faithful relationship her costar had disappointed her too.
Patrick is a perfectionist and remember at the time that he was irritated Jennifer wasn't prepared for scenes & didn't take the dancing seriously. It was a serious craft to him taught by his mother in her dance studio in Houston (he also played sports & worked on the ranch for his Dad ... balance). He didn't like having to reshoot over & over & her dancing ability was subpar with no passion. HE made their scenes & the movie work because of his dancing ability and total open passionate big Texan personality to be himself & naturally sexy, unpolished, & workaholic to perfect scenes. Jennifer was Joel Grey's daughter (Cabaret), very New Yorkish, and it showed. The rest of the actors in her family portrayed a suburban family quite well. The storyline & Patrick (with his blonde dance partner that would have been better suited as Baby) made it work. Now they had insane talent and chemistry in their scenes!! ♥👏😊
Now I understand why Patrick exudes a sweet softness in him ( from his mom - and the dancing) yet is also tough, rough and manly (from his dad - the sports and ranching). He's a fellow Texan no less. ❤ No wonder us ladies found him so special.
Jennifer just comes across as entitled, narcissistic and spiteful. Sometimes it's just better to not get to know the actors behind our favorite movies. It ruins the film when you realize you can't stand them IRL.

The friction was perfect. Those were the days. That movie took over the world for awhile.
@@ricktaylor14001 yep, I had and still have a crush on both of them. I'm a bi, lol.
@@zima3181 Lol! Makes you lucky, you get to crush on both of them! 🥴👍
@@ricktaylor14001 The Movie was watched mostly by Females it was more catered to them to be fair.
@@ricktaylor14001 😂❤️
Oh boy did that chemistry change! Here I am done 35 years later thinking that was one of my greatest moments that affected me and direction I took in dancing
Jennifer Gray she's one great actor
Actress
Thank you
It's Grey, not Gray.
This is my favorite movie of all time
Yet Patrick Swayze says she was the unprofessional one.
She was!
Sometimes people just don’t click, and that’s ok.
Was she not a child though?
@@Royalty_girlie Incredible as it may seem, since Jennifer absolutely looked like the 17-year-old character she was playing, the actress was 27 years old when she played Baby (b. 1960). She looked like a child, but she was not a child. Her very young appearance may have caused people to treat her like a teenager which contributed to her immature attitude. Patrick was eight years her senior, but the age gap isn’t what it looked like.
Patrick had been dancing his entire life. He was a professional ( much more so than his character) and expected Jennifer to keep up. The shoot was stressful for everyone.
Even more beautiful.
Is she serious about them having no chemistry 😲
Denial at it's finest..lol
She meant when they made Red Dawn, she felt no chemistry then so thought how will this work.
It's called Acting ...
Apparently she really irritated Patrick, especially in the lake scene where they practice lifting, he got really fed up of her laughing and acting silly. He got really cold in the water and she made the scene take so long to shoot. I think he genuinely didn't like her at all!
Patrick Swayze could create chemistry with a pile of clay. JG was a spoilt Princess who was hard to work with. Still is by these comments.
Patrick was absolutely amazing fell in love with him ❤ great casting choices all around
Still holding a grudge over the tickling thing huh. Man's gone, let it go.
She was just explaining the why's of the situation - not still complaining - geesh
Me and my folks watched this movie over and over again because of her portrayal of Baby, yes.
agree. without her, the movie would still have been a huge hit. However, without Swayze, it would have flopped for sure.
Summer vacay love ... sweetest memories for sure
Well you sure SEEMED to have chemistry! Apocalyptic, nuclear chemistry!
i saw the chemistry, they made it work, and red dawn was a awesome movie, but dirty dancing WOW!!!!
My brother n law worked on dirty dancing and has what he showed us VHS was the wrap party Sure looked different to ALL of us..
What was so different? You can't leave us hanging here.
Yeah... What was different??
Honest and straight up. Looks great
Wow, I'm tired of her demeaning Swaze
But they both hated each othwr at first
I can't believe anyone wouldn't have chemistry with Patrick Swazey!
You were fortunate to work with Patrick both times despite you not feeling the”chemistry”
and here you are trying to be relevant again, we’ll hate to break it to ya Jen…but the Chemistry that happened on set was all Patrick’s.
Full of herself even with Johnny Depp
Wdym? Did she date Johnny Depp or something?
@@mave143 , yes, they dated briefly. She was simultaneously dating Matthew Broderick though
Still one of my all time favourite movies , and I still watch it occasionally!
I love those two together dirty dancing was awesome..
Shows how talented they both were. I've watched Dirty Dancing about 100 times.
I’ve never seen this woman say anything positive about anyone 💀
Just goes to show what a great Actress she is as it fooled everyone to believe that it wasa real love story ❤
Fun fact: Patrick met the love of his life at his mothers dance studio. As a VERY young man. Was with her until the end.
I'm sure that faithful relationship her costar had disappointed her too.
What do you mean? You think she wanted to have an affair with him?
That's a rude thing to say, she never had eyes for Patrick
Should of stuck with your original nose..shes not bad looking tho
Should have or should've which is an abbreviation of should have. Should of is incorrect. Completely.
Yall made us believe it was awesome chemistry. That's great acting.
She lost her uniqueness and became ordinary after the surgery.
