This is a VERY nice version of the song and very fitting to Nightwish spirit. A Tribute i would say.
The first half with almost word to word lyrics of the original is a great example how metal music is not always grim and cynical. Nightwish has this positive empowering attitude in their music and performances - just watch the band smile and grin through every show. Lyrics and melodies of Nightwish songs are composed symphonic classical music played with metal instrumentation. Even the heaviest songs are mostly hopeful like a beacon in the night or as someone said a flower on a battlefield. Floor has a fitting name then to front this band, and she exudes that positive energy, that comes from not being afraid to dive in to dark just to be able to shine brighter and understand the world around us.
The amazing speech part Kelvin Jones has written I feel is very fitting to this message of Nightwishes music - so well it could as well be written by Tuomas and the band.

As a huge Nightwish/Floor fan, this was actually really enjoyable to listen to :) the fact that it's so different from the NW version just makes it really interesting.
Könnte mir vorstellen, dass das selbst Tuomas ganz cool findet. Wer weiß?!

Floor kept the base melodies to all the songs with just adding bits of additional flare. The songs she sang were still in the original format. This is downright disrespectful to serenade her a song that is a completely different song. It's a cop out and rude as hell. Clueso talked his way through a song he made up in German. Floor had to learn German to perform their songs. These guys put zero effort into it. This isn't Storytime at all period. What a joke. Man muss nicht unbedingt die Sprache verstehen, dieses Beispiel zeigt das Schmerz auch mit Melodien und Aussprache vermittelt werden kann.

It's amazing and that's the entire point of the show - not to perform covers but to make something in their own style. And he more than nailed it
@@chrstiania If that's the case, Floor should have recreated the original melodies to and make something completely different out of the main melodies. The only two that stuck to the original base melodies were Elif and Lotte.
@@zoeystar4668 She did change them. Not completely, not as much as storytime/amaranth/sleeping sun(lol) but she did change them. Changing the melody is fine. Making it a calm song for example.
Please check our the while love died one, it's very good, but guess what? They changed the melody. It is fine because the lyrics are the same. It's still a version of that song.
Sleeping sun has 0% to do with the original though.
@@tes33720 Floor kept the base melody and lyrics matched up with the original melodies. Floor added some emphasis on certain parts to enunciate a required portrayal in which the lyrics spoke. The only two I am critiquing because they changed the entire melody is the Clueso and the guy who sang Storytime. Basically Clueso didn't even have the respect to sing in English. I guess, if your making up a new song, why bother singing in English and why bother to give tribute to Floor and Nightwish? What they did was unrecognizable and despicable. The Storytime singer did the same thing, didn't honor Floor as the performer showcased for her episode. Instead, he also indulged in plagiarizing the lyrics with a completely different melody that was so far off left field.
It's messed up and disrespectful in every way. SDP at least kept Floor's melody the same, and I give high props to Elif and Lotte, for honoring the songs to perform for Floor. Music, entertainment critiques are stating the same sentiments, so that speaks for itself.
The Northward song "While Love Died was slowed down, but the melody was kept intact, and I could still immediately could recognize the song. It was beautifully performed but nothing was taken away, the notes matched in a different speed of course. .
@@zoeystar4668 I went back and listened to amaranth and while love died, and I guess you're right about the melody. But it's not immedietly noticable to me. I have to pay attention and I have to listen to the original song first to try to notice it.
I guess I just don't have a problem with Storytime changing the melody, idk. He wanted this chill gospel-ish melody, which I think is fine. A song about imagination. I do agree it sounds kinda weird though I guess.
I agree with clueso, though. That was weird and I didn't like it one bit (I actually think the song itself is fine, it's ok, but it has NOTHING to do with Floor or Nightwish)

Very unique rendition and so different. I like it when a artist flips a song upside down like this and make it their own. I don't want to hear the exact same thing just with a different singer. If you try to copy and paste a Floor song there's a good chance its going to fail. So well done!
Some people seem to not understand that an interpretation of a song doesn't have to be a 1:1 cover - in fact it's way more creative to play around with the original. It doesn't discredit the original artist, it honors it while showing off own skills as well. This is a good version.
As a piece of music and as an interpretation of the text this is quite nice. Kelvin Jones has a nice warm voice with a lot of emotion. Edit: Just saw the video of the performance: Floor absolutely loved it! (although I was curious how Kelvin would have handled the original melody.. )

Mit der Version von Storytime kann ich gut leben. Sehr gut umgesetzt und im Gegensatz zu den anderen Songs die von Nightwish gecovert wurden, hörbar.

@@Joe-hz3rq 2 Paar verschiedene Schuhe kann man nicht vergleichen und Geschmack ist eben verschieden. Aber es ist gut umgesetzt.
@@whitecat3134 Bei Nightwish ist es ein sehr guter Metal-Song - Bei Kelvin Jones ist es Gänsehaut pur!!!!!! Das alles ohne Pyro und ohne Nebel und ohne klassische Gesangsausbildung - sondern nur Gitarre - Leidenschaft, Gefühl und Herzblut und eben Kelvin Jones.

No. this isn't a changed version. he just took the lyrics and made an entirely different melody. There was not one recognizable note that resembled the original.

I don't recognise Storytime of this at all except the lyrics are the same. I wish they would have kept their versions more true to the original. But at the same time I understand their choices, because Nightwish songs are just simply too hard for ordinary singers whose vocal abilities aren't at that high level.
As a big Nightwish fan myself, I think he could have totally managed to sing the original. In a different key of course, because every voice is different, but I’m sure he has the range! What he did is called a stylistic choice in my opinion. He would have had the voice and potential to do it differently, but he decided for this version because that’s his style. You shouldn’t judge badly about his voice because of this.
@@vocal_lilly9799 I'm not judging his voice. There's nothing bad about his voice and he has his own style which isn't bad thing either. I meant in my comment, that I understand their choices (other sms singers as well), because I don't think their vocal abilities are as high level as Floor. You know the Wacken version of Storytime where she belts and middle of the song she does the operatic part. None of these singers are able to do any of these Nightwish songs the way Floor does them, so it's really understandable that they changes the songs so they're able to sing them in their own style and the way they're comfortable with. That doesn't mean that they're bad singers though!

@@vocal_lilly9799 Olif and Lotte respected the base melodies to the songs they did for Floor. Likewise, so did Floor with her renditions. Changing the entire melody isn't paying tribute to the original artist in which they basically serenade. Clueso's was even worse. They are super limited talent, but seriously could put a bit of effort into it instead of taking the easy route. I hate when the base melody is stricken, it's so disrespectful.

@@lunasummers4280 naja Verglichen mit Floor ist das echt nicht gut die Version, da hab ich schon bessere Coversongs von gehört . Die bringt einfach nicht dass rüber was der Song Aussagen will .
@@lunasummers4280 Lotte hat imho schon gezeigt, dass sie was drauf hat, aber der Song passt nicht zu ihr. "Noise" muss laut sein, und ihre relativ schwache Stimme passt da nicht, finde ich. Aus einem anderen Song hätte sie mehr machen können (vielleicht How's the Heart oder auch Procession?)
Hmm, aber es geht doch bei SmS nicht darum, dem Original möglichst nah zu kommen, sondern die Songs so zu interpretieren wie man sie vielleicht selbst veröffentlicht hätte. Find ich ein bisschen schade, dass gerade die NW Fans hier mit so vielen Versionen unzufrieden sind. Wenn Kelvin plötzlich seinen Sopran ausgepackt hätte und dazu die distortion guitar gespielt hätte, wäre das vielleicht lustig gewesen, aber musikalischer Blödsinn. So ist das doch integer. Und der Song fetzt halt schon auf seine Weise.
Das hat nicht viel mit dem Original zu tun, aber so erzählt Kevin Storys und darum richtig. Imaginarium ist ein Konzept Album und Musik für einen Nightwwish Film. Eigentlich kein Floor Lied, weil es für ihre Vorgängerin geschrieben wurde. Aber irgendwie wollte keiner ein After Forever oder ReVamp Lied nehmen.

Immerhin wurden mit “Fire” und “While Love Died” zwei Lieder gesungen die direkt von Floor geschrieben wurden. Dass keiner After Forever oder ReVamp singt ist natürlich schade, aber grundsätzlich finde ich auch sehr toll das Nightwish Lieder gesungen wurden (im Gegensatz zu Beste Zangers, wo Hits wie Hotel California für Floor gesungen wurden🤓) Nur die “Sleeping Sun” Version von Clueso verstehe ich noch nicht ganz, da hätte er den Text gerne mehr am Original halten können 😂😂😂
@@Teigwalze Beste Zangers wollte auch Mainstream Hits haben. Die regeln bei Sing meinen Song sind andere. Und Clueso hat böse Kritik in den Kommentaren einstecken müssen. Nigthwish mit einer Rocknummer schlagen zu wollen ist - unüberlegt.

Once again Nightwish Army proving to be obnoxious. This is not a karaoke show. They are all professional artists giving their own reditions of a song. If it is a copy, great. If it is different, great. Just shut up and try to open your minds. Not every music needs to be a 25min complex shit. There is space and moment for every genre.

I've seen several reactors and commenters claim NW fanbase would be toxic/obnoxious. But never see any proof of it.
He kept most of the lyrics which was cool. I just hoped that someone would actually leave their comfort zone and sing it in a more metal way. This is just a pop song.

Really struggling to find the orig. Storytime in this piece of.. 'art'. Sorry, but what the fcuk was that rant starting at 2:15 all about? That the rap-style analogue of Floor's operatic part? The singers are supposed to honour the original, right? How is that done when the feel of the song is completely overturned and the melodies mangled?
Like the other one, this dude's focus seems to have been self-advertisement instead of putting Floor centre stage. But hey, it could have been worse. At least he kept most of the lyrics and sang in English. The other guy performed even below this level on the respect-o-meter. No doubt, Floor will be a good sport and hide any kind of disappointment she might feel, but my word.. the self-centred disrespect is something to behold. Curious to see the edition and Floor's reactions to these people.
I could have lived with this interesting take on the song. Although it devolved once the freedom rant took over. I am so tired of the racial cultural enslavement focus and pray for the day we can all move forward to celebrate our common connections and dreams we all share as human beings.
Only until recent history has the concept of freedom emerged from the struggle for all humanity to take control of our individual destinies and find our bliss, free from the realities of politics, religion, power, & $$$$$$$$$$$$$.

@@Thorgrim247 Yup, the guy who in everything is behaving like a brave new world citizen, was simply selling a stereotype. With that he drew undue attention to himself instead of honouring what should've been the centre of attention, i.e. Floor and her music.
The whole point of the show is that artists take each others songs and make it their own. My only issue with Floor’s episode is that it doesn’t feature After Forever and Revamp. Maybe licensing issues?
@@BrendonChase_2015 I agree! I don't mean to disparage any of these German musicians, but the level of talent and maturity of the singers from Beste Zangers seemed to be on a much higher level. All of these German artists are much younger and less experienced. IMHO
@@Thorgrim247 Yes, the selection of German musicians appears to have been a factor here. I've read countless comments of ppl who plainly stated that they would never have watched a boring tv-show like SMS, if it hadn't been for Floor. Which is exactly why they threw her in.
Compare that to e.g. the last season of "Beste Zangers" which was very entertaining again, simply because the producers seem to have a better hand at selecting the musicians. Surely Germany - even in mainstream music, must have a wider variety of artists on offer than what we've seen here in this edition.
