Always appreciate your reviews, even for games I don’t play. Especially like the history lessons. Thanks for that you guys do! Still wish you shipped to US so I can support you guys further. One day, perhaps
Thanks Matt - you are too kind. Sadly the shipping costs are prohibitive. You should be able to buy Merch in the US though. It is manufactured on demand via a 3rd party. I realise that is not miniatures. Maybe I should try and find larger 3rd party mini ditributors over there that have an affiliate programme.
Got my box today from you (Thanks Mrs K). I got 4 88s as well. I guess it's a misprint on the box or else they changed their mind after the boxes were printed. Looking forward to building all the models tomorrow.
Great video and some nice history :) There has been posts on the Flames of War FB page that some boxes have 4 88’s and others the 2 stated. Seems it has been a packing error so a bit of a lucky dip :)
The M14/41 makes a great allied formation for Afrika Korps. I did an Afrika Rifle formation, with 3 infantry platoons, a 5cm Anti Tank battery, with support from Marders, Dianas, 2 lots of Sdkfz 222 armoured cars. I had an Allied formation with 9 M14/41's. I got 2 wins and a draw at an event. The Italian tanks rip infantry apart, while the Marders and Diana's do the same to tanks
@@ModellingforAdvantage I know Marders and Dianas have gone up a lot, which makes it difficult for the Germans to deal with things like Shermans and even more so, KV + Churchills. I've not looked at the Italian stuff in any detail. I have played using just Italians and did OK. having those 4 88's does help
The Tobruk link to your website is still showing the back of the Kasserine box instead of the Tobruk box. It also has the wrong tanks listed for the British. Thought I'd better mention it ;)
The Death or Glory formation for the Mid War British can have a HQ platoon of 3 Lee's so there is a use for the spare Lee turrets, although they were still in their US paint jobs. Not sure who would be bothered by that in game. If you bought 2 of these box sets, you could run a Sherman formation, with 2 Shermans as a HQ and 2 platoon's of 2 Shermans and 1 Grant, then another platoon using 3 Crusaders.
Glad you enjoyed it - I worry sometimes I waffle too much about the history - then I remember - take that out and I am just doing the same crap as everyone else...
Gentlemen the dress code is slipping. A good review and I think quite cheap but as we all know it’s far too tank heavy and infantry should be included I think especially if you are advocating a critical siege . Personally the much older sets provided far more balanced starters for combined arms etc
As much as I agree infantry is critical in any WW2 game - for a starter set for rookies I think keeping it simple to learn the basics is a pretty good idea. Gives you a feel for a game without the complexity slower less powerful units bring. As a taster set I think it is pretty good.
I’m frustrated. I want to play Flames if War… in the desert… but I want 8th Army vs Afrika Korps! Which would you get if you could get one… Tobruk or Kasserine?
Operation Crusader Nov-Dec 1941, so the 2pdr, Grant/Lee & CS Howitzer yes, the 6pdr I think not, as they only entered service & used on converted tanks from mid 1942
@@ModellingforAdvantage Teah, it's fall was the finale to the battle of Gazala, AIUI the 6pdr only started in production in May '42, not sure about any tank-gun conversions, but I'd seriously doubt much if any was done even by 1st El Alemaim. I had a game set at Stalingrad that had the German 6th Panzer Divion appear as reinforement with an organic Tiger Company - they had it on paper it spent months training in Germany! (BBCM)
@@SaulKopfenjager It is a tricky one - as gamers we are very much in the what if category so it is nice to have those options - sadly it is not often clear to the player that this is an a-hostorical option that they may not want to play knowing that...
I made all my M14s and Semoventes interchangeable and it works really well
Nice one.
The riveting vs. rolled steel and cast steel was new info. for me. Thank you for sharing.
No problemo
Awesome 👏 review gentleman… Ultra informative… I see 2 of these in my future
Why thank you

Nice unboxing, i like the italians, and the crusaders, grants.
It is a belter of a set for what you get for your money.
Crusader Tanks were designated A15
Thanks for the tip.

Sweet!
How strange i've just seen this after seeing a documentary last night on Canadian TV about the war from 1940 to 1942 against the Britain and Italy
Nice, I do enjoy a documentary, even if I spend time screaming at the TV about what it gets wrong!
These are great box sets.
They really are cracking sets.
Great video and some nice history :)

Lucky for those of us that got the free ones then.

How did they come out in the new points balance for mid-war?

Thank you - we'll get that fixed!
Those Italian tanks might be outclassed and outnumbered, but my oh my they are sexy. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on this box.

Yeah, there is flexibility in the set for sure, definitely expandability.
Riveting! No really, very interesting stuff, I enjoyed that a lot. Nice wee models and a bunch of history thrown in - what's not to like?

@@ModellingforAdvantage Oh no good sir, don't go changing!
Is it possible to magnetise the Crusaders, so their type can be swapped between battles?
You can magnetise the turrets - many people do that.

Go for the Tobruk one first. Those Italian tanks you can use as allied units with your German force and they are really cheap in points.
Which year of Tobruk is this based? Not sure those allied tanks were present.
Operation Crusader Nov-Dec 1941, so the 2pdr, Grant/Lee & CS Howitzer yes, the 6pdr I think not, as they only entered service & used on converted tanks from mid 1942
Yeah this is a 1942 army for sure. Tobruk falls in June 1942.

British tanks attack....
88's be having a field day.
No doubt...
I bought his but too bad no italian infantry can be found anywhere I have been let down by flames of war
They are having real problems supplying infantry.
Just a quick question, whats the total point cost per army in the box
