Transfer Park is a very beautiful, secluded, mostly quiet campground. I prefer it’s sister campground down the mountain Florida, mainly because of its river access. Most of Florida’s sites are right on the river, whereas Transfer Park’s sites are further away from the river, and in many cases very difficult to access. For half of the sites the river is in a deep ravine, and is actually quite dangerous if you have young children. The other half are closer but involve a short hike across a meadow. The river tends to be swifter and deeper at Transfer Park with more dangerous rapid sections when the water level is high.

I have only camped here a few times, but come up often on walks/hikes and to access the “swimming hole”. Made the mistake of arriving on the weekend the first couple of times camping as a young adult to find Florida full, so we had to camp at Transfer for a night or two until the weekend crowds left out. Both Transfer Park and Florida tend to almost completely empty come late Monday afternoons while sometimes being quite busy on the weekends. We did spend two weeks at Transfer Park a few years ago because Florida was closed while the Forest Service remodeled it. We stayed in #21, which was an awesome site except there are very popular rock climbing cliffs in this area, and people were constantly walking through our site to access it, even though there is a trail that takes them slightly above the site. It felt like we shooting our wiener dogs with the water gun, and hollering at them to quit barking non-stop. The “swimming hole” I mentioned can be found across the meadow that can found across from site #15 where to bathroom and water spigot are. You cannot see it from the road, but a short hike across this meadow brings you to semi-beach area and a calm spot in the river. The far side of the river is up against a cliff and the water is 4-5 feet deep. It is ice cold, but if you can take it, it is a great spot to play in the water, swim, or float on a tube. Many of the camp sites in the first loop have trails that cut across to this area as well. If you are coming up from Florida, you have to park in the trailhead parking lot and walk over to this area.

Another great one folks. Glitches just prove we are human.

With the sign for Florida Campground on the other side of the river, it almost makes it look like that is the end of the road. I can see how you missed this one.

Another good campground to consider. A good aspect is no cell service. Thanks for this review

The best camping trips are the ones without cell service. Sometimes I have to be connected for work or family but I always try to get 1 or 2 week long trips without the phone each year.

We camped at Transfer park. It was wonderful. Went up on Sunday and stayed til Thursday! There was only us and maybe 3 other campers between the 2 loops. We did not regret our choice one bit! Boys enjoyed the beach area by the river and fishing at Lemon Dam

What day of the week did you visit the three campgrounds? And what month? Will be heading there next June.

It was over Labor Day Weekend. Saturday, Sept 5th of 2020. I don't think it will be as crowded as long as you avoid the holiday weekends.

Do you know if the campground was re done? Your "drive" doesn't match the google earth image, the image says it's from 2019 and you posted this in 2021...

I’m not sure that it was redone. Didn’t seem to be new looking when we drove it.
