  • You have ripped all the DVD's in your library, but the files that MakeMKV made are not suitably named for Plex to be able to get the metadata. This tutorial will help!
    This is part 2 of a series in the process of ripping a huge amount of DVD's when you are building your Plex library.
    Software Used:
    - FileBot www.filebot.net/
    - MakeMKV www.makemkv.com/
    Empty Folder Script (powershell) 19:17
    robocopy "DriveLetter:\Path\To\Directory" "DriveLetter:\Path\To\Directory" /s /move
    ex: robocopy d:\ToRename d:\ToRename /s /move

      Ok so I checked it out and I kind of love this program. My video was focused on movies, but if I make a video on tv shows. This is the software I would use. Thanks for the tip!

    Have you tried TinyMediaManager? I think it does not care what the file name is, if your folder has a name it can scrape.

    I'm currently 10:33 into your video and I've watched you copy the files that you ripped twice. The first time was when you created the "ToRename" folder where I watched as you selected all the files and pasted them into the folder. Then when you created your "blah" folder for files that had been partially named correctly I watched as you selected the files using Ctrl + Left Mouse Click and moved them into the folder. This is where my confusion lies. So, at that point in time, you had multiple copies of the same files? I don't really understand why you would make "copies" of the files into the "ToRename" folder when you could have simply left them in the original folder you had ripped them too. Your organization is amazing, and I really like it. I just don't see the point of making multiple copies of the same file only to delete them later. My biggest issue is with the speed in which your "Copying" and "Moving" was completed in!!! It was almost instantaneous!!! How?? If I move a 3GB file from my C:/ (m.2) to my D:/ (SSD) it still takes a few seconds. However, according to you at the beginning of the video you had around 100 movies. How the hell were you able to "copy" and/or "move" them so quickly? Why would it take me HOURS to do it and not you??????????

    although this is very tedious, the alternative was to do each movie 1 by 1. your overall process is much better than mine.

    • @ExcelsiorTech
      @ExcelsiorTech  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks. Yeah I still do one at a time for times when I am just importing a few into the library, but when there is a huge amount to do I think this way is pretty efficient.

      For TV shows I use a simple bash call for mass renaming. Then I quickly edit the file name to update to the correct episode number (or you can write another script to do this). Toss it in a metadata tagger and it's done. The whole process takes about 2-5 minutes per season.
      "for f in *.mkv; do mv "$f" "${f/title_t/name_Of_Show_S#E}"; done;"
      This will iterate over all the files and then replace the title_t with your desired TVShow Name and the S#E descriptor. # is the season number.

    Excellent tut, look into MetaX works very well, example for a file that has no definite name, neither the folder, you can drop file in MetaX and type in left hand search box what you know what the file is supposed to be and MetaX changes file name, properties, and fills in all info in one click....Done. Also works with TV series, example if you have a 10 episode season folder make sure you name each file properly (s01e01, s01e02, etc.......drop all ten files in right hand column, immediately go to left side and type in show name only and it will tag every file within seconds, with cover and all info. you can customize how the files are relabeled. Works extremely well for PLEX. If you can get that program automated you would be KING LOL

    • @uwhelper
      @uwhelper 4 роки тому +1

      also if you need to mass name files for the season numbers and episodes bulk rename is better lol
      i use it all the time

    • @uwhelper
      @uwhelper 4 роки тому +1

      the only problems i run across are movies that have alternate names that requires a little investigating
      MetaX use TVDB, TMDB, TVMAZE, IMDB, and few others

      ua-cam.com/video/6N88VSRI_wg/v-deo.html that was for tv shows, doing lots of movies each movie in list has to be clicked on individually, and each click you goto search and find your movie then click on next one and do a search, best when name of movie is only thing in search box, BTW i probably didn't name perfectly but was for demo so that you can see it can work with several season at same time

      Wow, what a thorough comment! I will take a look at That software. I was focusing on movies for renaming in this video. TV show renaming is super important too. I use renamer pro for things I know for sure what they are.

    Hi, nice tutorial there (and the part before this one).
    If i saw it right, your robocopy script counts the files inside the folder and delete the folders with 0 files in it.
    Then there are 2 ways to continue from there to be faster but i don't know which one will work better:
    A) Expand your script to rename all files inside a folder with the name of the folder followed by the original name (this to avoid name conflicts). Then you can try to put all those files into filebot and proceed as usual.
    B) If the method above doesn't work well because of the "original filename" confusing filebot, do the same as above but just with the folders that have only 1 file on them and rename it only with the folder name (deleting the "original" file name).
    Should speed up the "second half" of the process.

    • @ExcelsiorTech
      @ExcelsiorTech  3 роки тому +1

      For real! If there is any other way that is faster, I would happily like to know. At least you don’t have to do this many at once very often. Usually I am only manually naming a few new movies added at a time.

      @@ExcelsiorTech I tried plex a year or so ago. It were supposed to sort and name whatever you threw at it. Not so much... Episodes got misnamed, half the movies remained untouched, and pretty much all my old vhs stuff it didn't understand at all.
      I am looking at Jellyfin at the moment. When my new NAS is done transferring all my stuff I will continue the process.

    Gross. What a pain. I wouldn't do any of that. I'd torrent all the movies I owned/had physical copies of, using a vpn obviously, and an application like radarr to handle the file renames. Guilt free if you only download that which is already yours.
