Little know fact, but "BA BUM BUM BUM" is actually the Rhythm Heaven equivalent of Mother****er. He's just shouting out in anger after dropping the birdie
My gut feeling for the end was "wow, he's exhausted after doing nothing" but he was holding that heavy axe above his head for like 4 minutes! I'd be sweating too.
That's something I noticed while watching the Rhythm Heaven reanimated collab. A lot of artists animated very smoothly, which looked cool, but destroyed the sense of rhythm. It needs to be snappy to work well with the music.
@@ShyGuyXXL this same issue plagues a lot of other media, like Madness Combat fan animations. amateur animators (and hell, even sometimes professionals!) don't seem to understand the concept that you can entirely omit in-between frames to convey snappy, fast movements. i think one of the best rhythm heaven animations i've seen was a madness combat one-i don't remember the name, but they conveyed the fast movement innate to the real deal which made it a really smooth watch
@@ponponpatapon9670 The key is to balance slow and fast movement. It's impressive to make everything really smooth all the time from a work load perspective, but that doesn't make it good. If everything is smooth, all the movement is going to blur together and it won't feel satisfying. But if you have a mix of slow, fast, small and big movement, it will feel a lot more alive. Of course, the hard part is knowing when to use which. But most importantly, you also gotta know when to keep things completely still. If something moves, your eyes are attracted to it. So if everything moves, you don't know where to focus your attention. Ideally an animator should pull the focus towards something important. Like when a character is about to throw a punch, you animate them slowly (comparatively) pulling their arm back to prepare the viewer for the fast movement of the fist. And if the fist HAS to shoot out immediately, for example with Karate Joe, then you make the fist moving back more smooth to make up for it. That's also how Rhythm Heaven makes the head bobbing look so good. Whenever the characters bob their heads down, it's only a single frame, so it's immediate. But moving back up has more frames, so the bobbing feels snappy without feeling choppy. If it was just a single frame for both up and down, then it would feel too robotic.
Honestly, it's interesting to hear which sounds are part of the song, or are vocal queues built into the game itself! (ie, the birds marching, or dings in the cell swimming game-)
