The problem isn't the AI itself. Most of us understand it is a tool that can greatly help artist. and outside of a few bad-faith "artists" and users who were training AI on freelace artists work so they didn't have to pay for commissions, that is what it is being used for. the issue isn't the individual but the corporations. It's the difference between a small group of people using ai to inhance their vision to a level they couldn't do on their own, and a multi-billion dollar corporation that is already underpaying it's workers using AI to justify cutting corners even further. Or a indie dev using AI to assist in coding a game vs "downsizing" the coding team because " the AI can do it". That is why People are so against AI in the workforce. If you give a company an Inch they WILL inevitably take a mile.

currently the ai is a problem as a whole because of who uses it. it's being used to replace artists, writers, animators, voice actors and the list constantly expands. it's blatant theft and in the latter example creepy as hell.
until it's regulated there's no reason to support and approve AI, especially during protests.

they say future. I say retrogression.
the prompter once said.. why should an artist feel he is special.
my answer... of course. Why not. we are special because we try to be that way. we sacrifice at a price that is not cheap to be like that. and we are not lazy.
I should have said before. .. why do you consider yourself special when you do nothing .
it has implications for all the entertainment industry creators. vtuber, concept art, artist/illustrator, etc. I even suspect that there is currently a fake WIP. then the only way is not to boycott them. because it was a radical step and hated by everyone . but to create our own version of the separate and healty community. human generated art . individuals who work hard for values, lifestyle, and essence. not based only on profit , profit , and profit .

Sounds like a problem with the companies doing this - and not AI itself. IMO looking at this, and seeing AI as the problem is squandering a wonderful opportunity to blow open how exploitative corporate culture is (not JUST in the arts - art, music, movies, theatre, etc), but in general.

It's never been stealing, it's no different from a human browsing Google Images and learning how to draw from reference. Artificial neural networks are literally based off the neuronal structure of animal brains. However, AI can only look at art and imitate the style, it has no context to understand the meaning or purpose of art. It's a tool only, not an artist. This is why the average Joe can't make great use of AI. Great, consistent quality with AI requires an artist, someone with an understanding of perspective, shape/form, composition, color, anatomy, etc. and the ability to edit illustrations i.e. in-paint

    • @TD1237

You're not stealing ai art because the copyright office stated that images created by generative ai is PUBLIC DOMAIN.
No one owns these ai images. And several works have had their copyright revoked when the nature of the ai generation came to light. However , for you to own an image (ip property, copyright protection) with generative ai in it, you'd Have to draw most of it your self. (Kinda defeating the purpose of using ai in it. So just loosely reference it and draw drom scracth. Saves time too. Takes longer to edit work.) You are free to take as much of ai art as you want, legal wise.
Nft bros are having a field day with it, and its impossible to say ai creates unique images since every result is DUPLICATABLE with the programs: midjourney , craion , etc.
Image to image (which is what a fair number of these look like.) Is more blantant/obvious in what images its taking , is iffy with me because you can pretty much see what artists were taken from and which work its from too, so you'd be more or less taking from them as well as the ai shiller.
Also ai doesn't learn. This isn't even ai, but a generative algorithm that pulls from a large pool of scrapped data. These things would not be nearly as good without taking from an and all artist- many of which are better. Its not humam, it doesn't consider composition, it doesnt get inspired, it doenst think , it doesn't give you exactly what you want or how you visualize it, it is ironically limited. Calling it "ai" or "artificial intelligence" is just a marketing ploy when really its a glorified math solver while the ai prompter is a commissioner.
I never understood why some say to *enhance* your art with ai either, its just scrubbing your artistic uniqueness for something generic and typical. Why would you need a second image slapped on top of yours? (Yes i know how ai works. ). Ive seen this advice from ai shills or non-artists. you don't need ai enhancements if you can already draw.
All this is especially cathartic because of all the ai dudes that shit on artists (armature or professional ), while typing in their names and using their data to produce said ai images- yeah. Take a note from the nft bros and take it, its not like they *own* it: unlike artists who actually draw their work by hand. There are different ways to *adapt* after all.
As for me? I prefer drawing my own work from scratch. Once again, I can already draw. I have pinterest and actual artists for inspiration , and i have full creative control over my stuff. This isn't the type of ai I need.

Ai could have it's uses for the artist in terms of improving their speed but in my view needs to be heavily regulated and is currently accelerating the worst 'synthesization' that is already far too evident in commercial art. Do we really need a mass of overly perfect renders all done in exactly the same style derived from the work of other artists ? Is that not just mass-produced pap? It's not hard to see why Midjourney would want companies to pay them for a monthly subscription rather than said company, y'know, actually hiring a team of real illustrators. It is literally the new industrial revolution (remember the last one where the skilled independent craftsmen working for themselves were replaced by loom-operators working for mill owners ?) It is basically next-level corporate theft and as with all forms of mass-production threatens the delicate balance of sustainability, the relationship between consumer and producer, and undermines the independent creator's ability to compete in the marketplace even if the AI content is mediocre (while being superficially glitzy). I've come across AI comic ''creators'' (people who neither write nor draw but commission an algorithm to produce content for them) who are even objecting to the idea of having to credit Midjourney on the cover ! They want to claim full artistic credit for themselves ! There is something very wrong about this in my view, undermining as it does the concepts of authorship, copyright and plagiarism as we have hitherto understood them, putting corporate interests and profit before culture. Whaddya know .

Some notable assisting I've gotten to date are character design concepts, theory crafting, world-building/story writing, and research guidance. It's truly a remarkable tool when used "appropriately". However, seeing what that, creator ig?, made with just A.I., I can see where a lot of the fear of an A.I. takeover is coming from. I can't determine for sure, but I'd assume that ALL those pictures didn't take them much time to get done through A.I. Compared to a human that would require food and water to sustain themselves, ample sleep to refresh the mind, and breaks in between to avoid burnout. Creating a collection like the one you presented for even a skilled artist can take months if they don't half ass ANY art. Then you gotta factor in, life happening, any outside work or commissioned jobs, and plain ol' just wanting time to themselves. Lesean Thomas was drawing the most AMAZING anime style black characters since he was hired to draw the boondocks, the world has EVER SEEN!! Chris Copeland draws some of the most amazing black characters along with chase Conley that you can see anywhere. How are you going to draw POCs and look away from actual black creators who make images that look like them? You are not putting the right amount of study in nor are you searching a wide range of creators to learn from. Afua Richardson makes some of the dopest black female superhero drawings that comics has ever seen. If you’re a black female, why is it taking me, a black man to make you look for creators who look JUST LIKE YOU? That makes Zero sense. You just weren’t trying hard enough. It always kind of felt like creators were afraid to do it or something like that.

Outstanding, love the positivity. AI is a god-level tool for artists and not that great for random unskilled people. I've evolved tremendously as an artist since AI came out. I've drawn and painted for most of my life, but AI-prompting and in-painting forced me to dive further into photography, composition, and styles of art. Now I look at art and can describe it so well using terms like high/low angle subject, close/medium/far camera shot, depth of field, intricate, volumetric lighting, soft/hard lighting, soft/hard shading. I can create a prompt and get instant feedback; this instant feedback is a cornerstone of learning.
I bought a very nice 24gb VRAM GPU just for AI in late-2022. I've been working with these tools for almost a year. Seeing how my drawings can be reinterpreted in seconds is nothing short of magical. The idea a random person can use AI to be a successful artist with no idea about art is nonsense. Also while on the masking layer you can use the the eye dropper (alt button while on brush tool) to select values that you have already created if you want to match how much you have blurred it in anothwr area. 😎👌🏾

@@Sweetdude64 I don't have an effective opinion on AI art aside from "as long as no one claims it as theirs". Afterall, I'm still ignorant when it comes Ai Art and merely just used it to play around. So I could be thinking of this the wrong way.

The only thing about AI is that the poses are not action orientated. I guess all the data creates a comic book character that is posing for a vogue fashion shoot or something. Animation and action poses are still needed to be done by people. Rotoscoping is kinda interesting but storytelling and animation still need to be considered advanced artist skills even with the best current AI.

I don’t think people should try to replicate what ai art does simply because ai essentially is one art style for the most part so there is a sort of uniqueness to real artist art style that ai could never replicate so I think it’s a good thing to use ai to help you improve but I don’t think people should try to replicate ai 1 for 1

you know I like the idea of taking our art back from the ai but the thing is still that it *doesn´t teach you anything by itself*. Especially for beginner artists that might still get to know their art program of choice and what they can do with it, how could they analyze and figure out what layer modes and blurs to use by themselves? You still could´ve made a tutorial like this without using an ai for an example, because you are an artist and know what you´re doing. You knew you wanted a snowy background. The ai just throws shit anywhere because it can. There is nothing to learn from it, because it couldn´t even function without an artist´s help. Artists are still the better teachers and always will be
