Nice job! You didn't mention it in the video but I assume you used a new washer on the drain plug? They're only pennies and you'd have to drain the oil again if you found the old one was leaking. Torque it up to 20Nm (NB the workshop manual contains an error - it says 42Nm, which is incorrect and may result in stripping the threads from the crankcase.) +1 for the filters with nut attached (I use K&N). As well as making removal easy, it means you can torque them up to the correct spec (11Nm for the S2R). As the bike's new to you, I'd also recommend cleaning the gauze filter as that gives a good indication of the motor's health. You can still do it even though you've just changed the oil - just get someone to lean the bike steeply over to the left and you can remove it without losing any oil. Again, use a new washer, and torque to 42Nm (both for the gauze filter and the plug). Lastly, it's good practice to fill the filter cartridge with fresh oil before fitting. By doing that, you'll minimise the risk of air locks, the engine will reach full oil pressure more quickly and you shouldn't need to top up the level after running it for the first time. (You didn't start the engine after the oil change so you'll need to check your level again once you've done so as it will drop once it's filled up the filter). Roll on spring!
Wow thank you for the information! as a new owner I still haven't gotten to all the depths that you clearly have so I really appreciate you taking the time and sharing 😎👍 as soon as it gets a little warmer I'm going to do as you suggested as well marked on my list 🙏
Happy to help! I don’t have a bike, but I always like to partially fill the oil filter with fresh oil when installing the filter - especially in a situation like yours on the Ducati where the filter sits vertically because there’s no risk of losing oil out of it when installing it.
Ok sooo… “hand tight” refers to using your hand to tighten only in reference to the oil filter. During operation the oil filter will come under pressure further tightening the seal. The oil drain plug does have a specific torque setting so you don’t over tighten. When draining the oil remove the drain filler cap for better air and oil flow, it also drains quicker. When filling the only if you don’t put fresh oil in the new oil filter you need fill to the line start the motor then shut off the motor let the oil settle and re fill to the line. The oil filter will fill reducing the amount of oil in the site glass. I enjoy your videos, but there’s always room for improvement.
Hello friend, I bought a ducati monster s2r and I wanted to know if the gp shorty exhaust has a serial number to be able to approve it in Spain since there are many restrictions on changing the exhaust, thank you very much and best regards
Nice! So were you or are you a mechanic? You have a lot of useful info , and helped me with my Lexus IS 250 Maintennce by saving money on oil changes. Is there anything on your channel about changing serpentine belts?
Not a certified mechanic but I've been wrenching on my own cars and motorcycles since I was in high school. Really happy and glad that you get value out of some of the content :-) I am looking to actually change the serpentine belts on the IS250 this spring so stay tuned on that
There is one thing you HAVE to check. ALWAYS check the old filter so that you see that the old seal is removed. If its still stuck to the engine and you mount the new filter as soon as the engine is warm the seals will leak and empty your oil in a heartbeat. The next heartbeat will be your engine breaking down this goes so fast that you wont have a chance to react to the engine indicator. And please dont ask me how i know this. It still hurts, years later.
I posted another reply to that pinned comment with a link to a downloadable workshop manual but it's not showing up in the comments unless I log in. Is it visible to you?
I've got the same bike as my first, last time I changed my oil I used Mobil1 full synthetic motorcycle oil. That oil you're using says "diesel engines", I'm all new to this so I feel much better when the bottle says "motorcycle", any concerns?
I wouldn't bother with a drain pan, just take it down to gentle stream and drain it there. Its kinda like recycling and your returning the oil to the earth...lmao

This is indeed great advice, would you happen to know what washer to get on the drain plug?
@@garenmoghoyan3284 It's an aluminium washer 28 X 22.5 X 1mm and the Ducati part no. is 22032083A.

Who else agrees changing the oil in your motorcycle is actually therapeutic?😌
This is my dream bike and I love these videos! Please keep making vids on this bike!
Thanks Joe :) new update video dropping within the week so make sure to subscribe. This build is going to be sick.

Thanks for the extra context here your right :) I'll add some of this instruction in the description box as well 👍
@@carswithsonduren cheers
You got yourself one nice ride there CR. 🏍️👍BC 🇨🇦
Are you still doing a cyberpunk build with the bike?
Yeap! Expect an update shortly was just waiting for a part that got delayed due to coronavirus
I am so so pumped for it
Love this build bro 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Could you please send the link for your LED headlight and bar end mirrors? Thanks 🙏🏽
Hi, can you talk about the valves and belts services (desmo engines) pls
Will be doing a full valve service come spring. Stay tuned brother
That looked painless, nice bike, good vid🥝🇳🇿😎
Thanks Andrew welcome to the channel friend!
Hello, Very nice Video. For me the most beautiful Ducati Monster 💓
Dude, do you know about the timing belts? That version had the low mileage belts.. replace them if you don’t know
absolute perfect video
Beautiful bike bro 👍
Thanks Karim can't wait for the cyberpunk build on it to start
Ohhhhhhh thats dope!
Unrelated to the video but, what phone mount are you using? My monster has a / nut on the top tree preventing conventional mounts to be installed.
Great video. Thank you for sharing.
Do you have a list/links to all the parts youve put on this bike. I love the mirrors
Put aluminium foil over your exhaust next time and you won't have to deal with that mess.
I put the off center stripe on my windscreen it looks cool.

Thanks man! Welcome to the channel, I will look into where I purchase this and report back

Just checked it out looks like it was blocked because UA-cam thought it was spam! Just fixed it and will read it now
I believe Ducati recommend to put oil in the new filter before u installed it…..or I’m wrong ?
Yes it is!
What year is this bike?
2006!
What about the Oil Screen? Did you clean out?
No he didn't.
Nice vid,
But there is a reason the oil filter is upside down, so that you can pre-fill it with oil.
I've got the same bike as my first, last time I changed my oil I used Mobil1 full synthetic motorcycle oil. That oil you're using says "diesel engines", I'm all new to this so I feel much better when the bottle says "motorcycle", any concerns?
Also, although it probably doesn't matter much, I've read that the bike is suppose to use 10w40...thoughts?
No concerns as this oil is JASO certified and thus can work with wet and dry clutch applications!
I have a Ducati Monster S2R 800 with Termignoni exhausts. It’s a really nice bike 💪
Nice congratulations. What year and color is yours
Why don’t get say don’t break the seal?
what weight oil?
10W-40!
Well done sir, well done indeed. Lol
Every time I bring it to the dealer 250.00
