- NY Times: Conservative Catholicism is the Future
Can President Biden's press conference mishaps be explained, or are they symptomatic of a larger issue? Join us as we unpack his latest blunders, including the eyebrow-raising moment where he mistakenly referred to Trump as his Vice President. We dissect the media's portrayal of these gaffes, drawing parallels to their treatment of Trump's tenure, and speculate on Biden's motivations amidst mounting scrutiny. We shift gears to lighten the mood with some promotional notes and upcoming events tailored to those weary of heavy political discourse.
Next, we examine the growing trend of conservatism among newly ordained Catholic priests in the United States. Discover why priests ordained since 2010 are considered the most conservative in recent history and how generational differences in the Church shape its future. We tackle the impact of past scandals and the ongoing struggle between traditional and modernist perspectives, providing insights into the concerns parents and potential seminarians face when choosing the right environment for theological and spiritual education.
Finally, we offer practical advice on Catholic confession etiquette, addressing common frustrations and the importance of brevity and proper contrition. Through personal anecdotes and references to classic films, we explore themes of sin, repentance, and genuine amendment of life. We round out the episode with gripping stories of bear attacks, the realities of self-defense, and the challenges of navigating urban safety in an increasingly radicalized world. Don't miss these engaging discussions that blend depth with humor and personal reflection.

The crazier this world becomes the more Catholic I become. ✝️
Bingo!
I am a boomer (I think). I'm 63. I was liberal when I was like 30 years younger. I am a convert and I am not a Modernist.
73 here. Practically in the grave, according to Zoomers. My husband converted me to political conservatism in 1980. Saint Faustina converted me to Catholic conservatism in 1995.
And I never chatter in the confessional, so there.
Oh yeah, that video is definitely going to stop violent criminals. 🙄🙄
You forgot that they have a 65 IQ and only speak Somali and have never lived in a civilisation.
Thats Finland's establishment-approved video. Finns don't really think thats going to stop SA's. Finland's leadership is just as out of touch as everyone else's.
I used to go to noon mass at the Cathedral in Providence RI and those workmen would stand outside the gate rattling the gate and screaming at the priest/whomever to hurry up and unlock. It was their lunch. Tough crowd but real people.
My home state!!! The people have always been very good. The diocese was a great one under the "last Bishop of Providence", Most Rev. Russell McVinney, DD, LLD. In more recent times it's fallen on a bit of hard times.
I think a true Catholilc has to be a monarchist somewhere deep in his soul.
Hell yeah. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
lol always have been. Even as a kid I was one despite growing up in the USA.
Absolutely. Awaiting the Great Catholic Monarch. I love historical Catholic Monarchs like Frederick Barbarossa and Afonso Henriques.
me too.
Yes! Always despised the French Revolution. And am not a big fan of Republicanism.
So glad you guys are here, as my husband of 30 years just died and he loved your show, so it really helps to listen to you. I even had a divorced-remarried-NO Catholic tell me this week that I need to see a therapist as, in her opinion, I have a mental health disorder because I go to the TLM! Thanks for being there.
I’m glad that we can be of some comfort and consolation during your time of loss and grief. If you don’t mind, can we have your husband’s first name so that we can pray for his repose and ask Fr Nix to say a Mass for him? -Rob
May I please pray for you and your husband? I'm sorry for your loss and that that lady said that to you.
So sorry for your loss! May Our Lord keep and console you!
John Vianney was an incredibly strict confessor, many priests had Jansenist tendencies, and he changed upon reading Alphonsus Liguori’s manual on confession. He then became “the confessor.” He would give massive penances for venial sins. Every Saint Father Isaac mentioned in his talks, I would buy their books/sermons/biographies and each one has been life changing. Also, sweet shirt Anthony.
I was a seminarian in Lisbon Portugal 2012-14.I can tell you very few gâÿ seminarians, but quite a few rainbow 🌈 priest. And it was hard to be traditional.
German name for SSPX = Piusbruderschaft, which was translated as Pius Brotherhood
Happy Thursday, everyone. LET'S GO!
That German Group saw my Substack and freaked out 🤣
I’m in Japan so it’s NO only. If you guys make up 20% of the mass attendance, what were the numbers be if you added in the Byzantine and other eastern rites? As they tend to be fairly conservative as well.
Pray for the conversion of Finland 🇫🇮
The strangest confession ive ever had when i came to Canada was an indian priest telling me which was mortal sin and which was venial as i was listing my sins. Never experienced something like that in my 3 decades.
I have always taught my students that confession is all about adjectives-kind and amount.
Can you elaborate, please?
Anthony Stine say, " The Father Matin types!" Or "Those leaning to the McKerrick inclination!" 😅
This conversation went totally off the rails
Cracked up with this video. The Indian priest in confession is so spot on. 15 minutes N.O. love and peace and I didn't understand a thing.
Great show fellas. I find it interesting that the media refers to the new priests in political terms, versus orthodox/heterodox. BTW, my 2 brothers and l, all Boomers, are hardcore TLM. :)
Love AB. Never had done a trip like this one, but was absolutely star struck with ur guys description, got my funds together, about to reserve. But then Patrick mentioned not one TLM? I'm no radical but disappointed.
It is very difficult to arrange a TLM outside the US.
@@sophiachavez3377Yes, I know, difficult but not impossible. I live in Portugal.
Nick has great info & such a wonderful attitude. He would make such an excellent priest!
I like that Anthony was drinking moonshine during the show.
😂 That was water
There is an SSPX church near me in St. Marys. I'm thinking of going...
For these sins and for all of the sins which I cannot remember, particularly against these virtues, I accuse myself, confess, and ask absolution and penance of you, my spiritual father.
Guys, no no square or w/e it's called is several years old and...now it's in my head all over again.
I have been hearing since the mid-1980s that, "this next group of seminarians is gonna' be it!" Meaning, the guys that would restore the Church. Fr. Benedict J. Groeschel and others would say that all the time. And we rank and file didn't even know about Mr. McCarrick back then! I did know a seminarian who snuck into Alfonso Cardinal Stickler's TLM at St. Patrick's Cathedral and served that Mass... It was all very top secret. I'll bet older parishioners at Holy Innocents can tell you stories about that TLM, Anthony. That seminarian is not a priest of NYArch today, and I don't know about anywhere else.
The thing about secretly reading other books and getting almost a parallel formation? That's a tough road and, to be honest, I'm sure the seminary officials are wise to it by now.
JPII and BXVI operated on an hegelian principle, even though ppl who follow their thinking deny it. That's why for every Burke there is a Kasper. Let's put some good guys AND some bad guys in a room and what happens is what we are going to call, God's will?!?
Sadly, I met a lot of guys who were accused abusers as they came through the NYArch on their way to St. Luke's or to reinstatement or laicizatoon. Separate from that, I was connected to about 20 of Cardinal Dolan's list of 120 abusers... and that list isn't complete.
Tradition - including the personal embrace of Tradition as it relates to fasting, keeping the ember and rogation days, personal devotions, and scholastic and NOT NOT NOT nouvelle philosophy and theology is the way forward. Any compromise and it's just not going to work.
Nick, speaking of discernment and formation and good guys and bad guys... You've talked a lot about your ongoing discernment. In direct response to your contribution to the confession part of this episode, I (and a lot of us, I think) ask you to please include
Judges 17 : 10 in your "file" of things to consider and to talk to God and about.
Great as always, guys. Important and really edifying and helpful to me, was your discussion on confession.
Great convo on Confession.
No no square - my new ringtone
Where can we find Nick’s videos on the NO Mass?
The one hopeful thing about the genders being so split on politics in Gen Z is that this is still far more conservative than is typical. Most generations start as liberal and grow more conservative with age. If even 40% of Gen Z is right wing and that trend remains, it’s only going to go up as Gen Z marries, ages, and starts dominating politics. Could be sick if played right
Also just a positive note about the conservatism of the priests. I don’t doubt the 80% number is a little slanted by the Overton window or could be weeded down once they become established, but I think it’s hopeful that most priests you see who are popular and successful on social media seem to be pretty conservative. Maybe they shift that Overton window back right in years to come
My 5 nephews are Gen Z and all are very conservative, in Politics and in faith. I am quite surprised. Not at all how I thought they would turn out. But another factor is 4 have married early and have multiple children and open to more. Those have become the most conservative.
@@Myohomoto I’m 26 and live in a fairly liberal city, and I think maybe 75% of the guys from 18-30 who I meet are either traditionally conservative or voting for Trump. I’m actually shocked to meet liberal young men in the wild now, outside of at very left leaning establishments. I think it’s a recent trend, it was far more mixed 5-6 years ago IMO
If you don’t trust the pilots, why are you going to Italy?
Great now I have that song stuck in my head. 😑 thanks.
Btw, it’s bonkers that was made for a certain demographic to stop molesting women… seems like it would only have the opposite effect as it is incredibly annoying.
Made me think of that recent Jordan Peterson episode with Tommy Robinson. Had no idea it was that bad over there. It. Is. Insane. But this is what happens when you abandon your Christian heritage and faith. A society that has no defense against evil except propagandist stupid songs to sing about your “no-no zone” as if thats the silver bullet to the evil they’ve imported into their liberal culture. 🙄
Great, I fly out of Syracuse in 2 weeks
Your comment about Spirit Airlines was slanderous and false. I have flown Spirit out of Florida to Colombia 6 times in the last 4 years. Neither the pilots nor the crew were all black nor all hispanic. Remember they don’t want to crash anymore than you do. That alone would keep the pilots focused.
What is take on Kenrick-Glennon Seminary?
I am confused about the general confession. When do we go to general confession? Also, if you have sins in you past you’ve committed, doesn’t asking for forgiveness for sins I’ve forgotten or were unaware count under that ? I’m so confused.
That video “no no square” was a joke American kids laughed about ten years ago!
We’re always on the cutting edge lol
The Great Replacement is real. It's having a big effect in the Church and every facet of society
1:05:45 why is there a dishwasher in the air traffic control tower?
😂
Does anyone have that formula for confession that Nick mentioned at 41:31 ?
Clean-shaven? We should have serious beards. The Easterns are right and our wives are wrong.
The only serious beards are small beards.
@@markscannell865 A big man with a small beard is now a based takedown. Hat tip, Cardinal Zen.
Even with easterners big beards they lost there lands to muslims. Clean Latin shave and clean looking latin beards are the most based.
@@user-je5ib5nv8uNa, I’m Germanic, I’ve got long hair and a long beard like a Merovingian. Or Frederick Barbarossa. Or Richard the Lionheart. Raymond of Tolouse. Bohemond of Antioch had a beard and was the single most responsible general for the success of the First Crusade.
Godfrey of Bouillon had a beard, you know the Advocate of the Holy Sepulchre, Prince (king, really, but too pious to say so) of Jerusalem.
@@Thor-Orion I said latin beards are based if its clean at least symmetrical. Those guys you mentioned obviously had amazing beards
By the way, not all Indians speak with that accent. Love listening to Avoiding Babylon!
I’m an Australian Indian, and I always hear the Indian accent done like this…but not all speak like this. Just saying.
I wonder why everyone does this same Indian accent ….🤷🏼♀️
Anthony, There has always been a fight/war in the Church over what issues are the most important, a hierarchy of issues. . Pro-lifers have said abortion is the most important issue.. Cardinal Bernadin said it was a "seamless garment" and there is equal value in issues so immigration or poverty etc would be equal to pro-life issues. I think the Pope follows that road.
41:31 does anyone have this formula for confession that Nick mentioned?
No but if you find it I'd like a copy.
What specific books from St. Alfonses would Nick recommend?
I'm not Nick, but I highly recommend "Talking with God"
@@kevinkoski7570 Thanks! Who wrote that?
Nick has become an Anthony-splainer

I used to go to a Priest who would do the pay it forward for your penance. Kind of like do something etc, etc. This kind of annoyed/angered me because I just want to
walk away from
the Church clean. I don’t want to have to think (or even remember). Am I wrong here?
Ummm...you are resenting a penance given to you in reparation for your sins? I think you are missing the concept. Something is "off" in your thinking. Maybe you should go back to confession.
@@greyhoundmama2062 ok, maybe you are right.
@@greyhoundmama2062thank you

Diocese of Charlotte enters the chat. Super-conservative priests and seminarians. Super-conservative African priests. Stop being so blackpilled, y'all!
Where is the Advent in Italy information?

I have OCD (much relieved by Luvox), so I definitely tend toward scrupulosity. So, yeah, I remembered that time I stole rootbeer fizzies from the supermarket when I was 14, and I confessed it. I confessed all my youthful mortal sins many years ago, but I still worry about them.
The thorn in your side. Within 2 Cor 12:7-9 it says: "...a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan, to harass me, to keep me from being too elated. Three times I besought the Lord about this, that it should leave me; but he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.'" God bless you, Diane!
....that nonosquare thing is a joke, right? why would anyone still do it after it was meme'd so hard "the boys" had a music video filmed about it?
Rob - Nooo, we aren’t going to monetized.
Also Rob - we didn’t take the Vax.
It was already over by that point 😂 -Rob
Does the New York times call this a bad thing?
They don’t editorialize too much.
@@avoidingbabylon A first time for everything.
All Indians don’t speak like that . Please don’t generalise . Be kind
Ordinary Catholic is hilarious, there’s definitely one questionable millennial priest on YT who frolics in his habit, and that stupid no no square toon is stuck in my head.
Who is the millenial priest? Is it the Breaking In The Habit guy? Or is that guy okay
tis funny to watch you guys watching this with wide eyes, not knowing what's actually happening. hey, i love it if y'all would learn some aviation. get some msfs and vatsim going. do a stream on that. get up some group flights virtual! but you can't criticize an ATC just cuz they're a woman, you don't have the creds for that. also, and clearly, this is a navy problem... shit, it does really get worse and nick sees it. she googles it. great. do they not teach the FAR anymore?
Ryan Katsu Rivera became catholic?!
Yup!
We interviewed him a few months back

Peter said in 1 Peter 5:1 KJV "The elders which are among you I exhort, WHO AM ALSO AN ELDER, and a witness of the sufferings of CHRIST, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: 2 feed the flock of GOD which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 3 NEITHER AS BEING LORDS OVER GOD’s HERITAGE, but being examples to the flock."
Note: Peter refers to himself an elder among others not the leader or head of the Church. The only representative of GOD on Earth is GOD HIMSELF manifested as the HOLY SPIRIT dwelling in a true believer making them a King and Priest of the true Church which is spiritual not a palace in Rome.

So are you Orthodox or Protestant? And what does your comment have to do with this video?

Ephesians 1:3 KJV "Blessed be the GOD and FATHER of our LORD JESUS CHRIST, WHO has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in CHRIST: 4 according as HE has chosen us in HIM before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before HIM in love: 5 having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by JESUS CHRIST to HIMSELF, according to the good pleasure of HIS will, 6 to the praise of the glory of HIS grace, wherein HE has made us accepted in the beloved. 7 in WHOM we have redemption through HIS blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of HIS grace"
I am also of the royal priesthood in the true Church which is spiritual not a palace in Rome (1 Peter 2) and my only authority is GOD's Word, the Holy Scriptures (2 Timothy 15-17 KJV).
And my comment was from the Holy Scriptures which the RC says is an authority and is always relevant to eternal life.
