My grandpa made moonshine all his natural life. First in North Carolina and then in 1940 till he passed away in 67 in Cumberland Va. People came from south Carolina, Tennessee, north carolina, ofcouse Virginia and up around the D.C. areas to buy his product. They "revenueours" hounded him nonstop, never got him. Once standing 30yards from his still site.. just a quite simple farmer that had 5daughters and a bad heart.. I have always felt he thought he wasn't doing anything all that wrong..
Belmont Farms (makers of Climax Moonshine) also make a "Virginia Lightning" that's a corn whiskey that's great. I've had Tim Smith's and Lightning and Lightning was slightly better tasting, but very similar. Also, it's 100 proof, so it's real good stuff. And Chuck Miller, the owner/distiller got the still from a ABC raid. It's all copper, and I think it was 400 gallons or so.
Ole Smokey isn't moonshine. If it says "neutral spirit", it AIN'T shine. It's closer to fucking vodka. Same thing with Midnight Moon. Climax is mother fucking OG shine if you take your foot off the gas! Belmont Farms, kids! If it comes from Belmont, it's LEEEEGIT!!!
I wonder how it would taste if it was filtered through charcoal AND dry roasted cornmeal. I'm new at this. Unless somebody tells me otherwise, I'm gonna try it next weekend. It will only be my 2nd solo batch. I have some good mentors, but I just have to try it my own way. It will probably be awful, but what the hell?
@@mrhocuspocus Watching moonshiners I caught an episode where they replicate Popcorns shine, I paused the tv right when they show the recipe and converted it to a smaller 5 gallon batch, which is as follows: corn 2.5 lbs., barley 1 lb., rye .6875 lb., sugar 6.25 lb. You're welcome!!! re
I tried Midnight Moon and loved it, although the one I have is 100 proof and in a mason jar, so not sure how it's different in taste from the one yall have. I was excited to try Climax, but to be honest I found it very poor in comparison. It has a really funky smell and taste, and I generally like most things so was surprised that it was so wildly different. Not sure which one is closer to true moonshine. =/
If you want to see how copper really effects the taste of distilled spirits, ferment inside a copper vessel and repeat this process for a plastic and stainless steel. I can guarantee you that you will taste the difference between all 3 of them. That is the only place you will taste difference. The chemical reaction that takes place during fermentation reacts in a positive way during this process. The type of still won't matter after fermentation has ceased and is complete.
Next time, try Sugarlands from Gatlinburg. They have a great apple pie that's still 100 proof. There's also Old Forge Distillery. They have a limoncello moonshine that's freaking amazing!!!
Our state has all liquor sold through state run distribution to licensed retail outlets. It is not easy to get specialty and low production spirits here.
Non-legal shine usually tastes more "basic" then modified recipes. They use the cheapest ingredients and a method that saves the most time, usually a sugar based sour mash corn recipe. The reason some shiners modify the recipe is to gain more customers I'd assume. They add different grains, or all grains instead of sugar to make it taste better. Originally only corn was used only because it was cheaper then sugar.
If it were aged whiskey we'd have put it in a glass. But since it was just some 'shine, we tipped the ol' bottle back. And yes, it's strong enough to kill any bacteria, so we're good there!
GNS can be 100% corn and in this case it is. It basically just means they don’t make their own mash. They buy the pre distilled corn liquor, flavor it and sell it.
You did not even give the proof content , if I ever need advice or reviews that lack basic information , then maybe I"ll watch another one of your video's , maybe?
My favorite part about this is tasting directly out of the bottle! Keep it up guys, love the content!
Clawhammer is killing it.

Enjoyed your comment. He wasn't doing anything wrong. Our government just likes to tax everything to collect money.
90-95% percent of Ole Smokey's moonshine is "GNS" Grain Neutral Spirit and syrup. They buy the GNS then add syrup and sugar.
Climax is delicious. They make a blend that tastes like fireball as well without the chemical taste

You guys are the best, nice review!!!
I like this guy, he reminds me of a non serial killer Dennis, from always sunny.
Btw short mountain moonshine is good.
Climax is definitely the best legal shine!
Tim Smith the master!!!!
I like the climax as well. Try their cinnamon it's decent. You guys should make some apple pie moonshine with your spice kit and climax moonshine.
guess im gonna have to try that climax now, if i ever see it. i have tried the other two, and agree with yall on what you said.

I'd like you to review Popcorn Sutton XXX Moonshine

Personally, I like Midnight Moon the best. But, I'm from NC...so maybe I'm biased.

Pissed by the second tasting lol!

I wanted to try Sugarlands for the review. Next time!
Midnight moon is the best one.

Climax runs their shine thru a DOUBLER that is the DIFFERENCE
Popcorn suttons moonshine is the best Shine ever !
Notification squad!! :)
How/why do legal 'shiners need to modify their recipe from an original non-legal recipe?

Tilted still cherry, from South Carolina is best.
0:07 lmao I was thinking wtf is this guy made of.
I think there should be a beer channel and shine channel
Tim Smith knows what he is doing 😂
Junior did 11 months and 29 days, was busted firing his daddy's still for him on a cold morning. BTW was making untaxed until he died.
I know where to get the best moonshine, guaranteed legal until you get caught!
Wait.... there’s legal moonshine in VA.... I’m on my way!!!!!!
Genuine question, why don't you use glasses?
the high proof kills any bacteria
If it were aged whiskey we'd have put it in a glass. But since it was just some 'shine, we tipped the ol' bottle back. And yes, it's strong enough to kill any bacteria, so we're good there!
You should write all of your comments backwards ;)
Hipsters
Where can I find real moonshine ?
You have to know someone that knows someone.
... BECAUSE it's not real moonshine....what's the point of fake shine anyway? Besides sellin fake shine...
So what do you think of the back end on this one soulless comrade? Erm... I'm your Dr. You've just woken up from alcohol induced coma.
Just water it's hundred percent legal
Guy on the right looks like Dennis from Always Sunny
I swear...when I saw the thumbnail, I thought it WAS Dennis. 🤣
Tasting it after he’s had his mustache hair in it.......gag.
Homemade moonshine is the best moonshine
I don’t like the backend flavor either 😂😂😂😂😝
climax uses stainless steel
You guys are making me thirsty😂
Even the back woods of ohio makes good shine !
Sugarlands is better than ole smokey In my opinion
dudes act and dress a lil metro citiy billy to be talking about shine .I bet they can't air up a tire
Get yourselves some glencairns.
Midnight Moon is the best. that's the way a good moonshine should be.
I'm drinking midnight moon right now
my friends, midnight moon is NOT made from corn. it even says on the packaging "grain neutral spirit" which basically means vodka
Rookies
Wrong. It is made from corn. You better do your research a bit better.

Popcorn.
You sound drunk
try buying shot glasses and some sniffers add some class
