It isnt misogynistic to attack the woman who helped your ex cheat on you.

    ok but fr the whole blaming the other girl thing is ridiculous- like why do we hate the girl when she’s likely to be the victim of the man!?

    • @Jordblitz
      @Jordblitz 2 роки тому +5

      So when guys go after the guy their girlfriend cheated on them with, that's also sexist? But sexist towards men?
      Love triangles are obviously not sexist. This video is utterly ridiculous

    • @alicewalice13
      @alicewalice13 2 роки тому +10

      @@Jordblitz what's actually ridiculous is your lack of understanding of how sexism actually works-
      but anyways, in this case, going after the guy your girl cheated on you with is almost the same problem- it's likely not his fault either. The person in the middle made the deliberate choice, and blaming the other victim is just plain stupid.

    • @Jordblitz
      @Jordblitz 2 роки тому +4

      @@alicewalice13 I know it's almost the same problem.....and it happens ALL the time, in both media and real life. The question is, is that phenomenon sexist? The answer is no. Nobody would call that sexist.
      Love triangles are not sexist. They may be dumb and irrational, but to say they perpetuate "misogyny" is insane
      (Just as a heads up- calling something sexist doesn't actually mean it IS sexist. Since you don't seem to know how sexism actually works 😉)

      @@Jordblitz okay for one, I’d appreciate it if you stopped being a condescending asshole 😊
      And yes, both versions of a love triangle are dumb and irrational, but what this video and my comment was actually about was how the media handles the girl-guy-girl triangle.
      The other girl is always put down, slut shamed and declared a “home wrecker” or a bitch. meanwhile, the dickhead who cheated walks free.
      but for a guy-girl-guy triangle, the girl in the middle is blamed (as she probably should) and once again, both guys actions are “justified”
      both of these situations are evidence of the inconsistencies between girls and guys and how the media/society treats men and women differently.
      thus, it is sexist 😌

    • @franciscoancer2618
      @franciscoancer2618 Рік тому +2

      I disagree, we can still hate the other girl, but it depends on the situation. If she knew that he was with someone else, then we can hate her. If she thought that he was single or that he was getting divorced then we can sympathize with her.
      Just because the other woman isn't married doesn't mean she's innocent.

    • @Ale-hy3zv
      @Ale-hy3zv 2 роки тому +6

      @@myheartwillstopinjoy8142 I mean it's not explicitly so, but most fans agree that the subtext between Phoenix and Edgeworth is there for a reason. And it actually was completely accidental on the first game, because it used a specifically east asian trope of ambiguous friends who will change their whole life path to follow the other and the western fans immediately read this ambiguity as romantic. When the creators discovered the ship was so prevalent in the fandom, they purposely put blatant subtext in the other games modeling the dynamic of the characters after yaoi archetypes to pander to that demographic of mostly fujoshi who shipped them, not because of actually caring about queer representation or whatever but for mere marketing goals (a lot of creators do this actually, in the east especially for the popularity of yaoi and male on male intimacy targeted towards girls, not gays). So I don't think they are actually going to ever make them canon, as the ambiguity is much safer and is what drives the fans to fill in the blanks themselves, but I don't want to get so cynical, anything could happen as the times change I guess. Just know that the subtext is real and is there, non-canon and non-existent are very different things, and dismissing subtext as non-existent just because the characters have never kissed or declared their love or been confirmed as attracted to men is just unjustly treating the shippers as delusional perverts with no actual effort put in searching for more than the surface interpretation in fiction, which shows an incapability in literary analysis and interpretation and is most of the fun in consuming media.
      I'm not specifically attacking you btw, just saying what a lot of anti-shippers think regardless of situation. If you want to see the actual ways the creators put the subtext in the games, I suggest reading the article on WrightWorth on the shipping wiki, or search for some compilation of moments on social media. Or watch literally any youtuber gamethrough of the first game. Or get in touch with the fandom.

    Such a nitpick in the grand scheme of things, but it always bothers me when people use the line “she wears short skirts, I wear sneakers” as an example of internalized misogyny. At least to me, that comparison is made to illustrate how she feels inferior the girly girl, and not good enough

      yeah i see it as shitting on the other girl because she is stereotypically feminine and the narrator is being a "pick me" girl, but it could always be both, people only usually insult things in others that they are insecure about in themselves

      In the context of the song, she’s saying it in a way that she’s superior cause she’s “different”, but I’d actually love to see that take on things. @@MaiaCVideos I think if that is the context of the line is debatable. Since the line goes "she wears short skirts, I wear sneakers / she's cheer captain and I'm on the bleachers, / dreaming about the day where you'll wake up and find / that what you're looking for has been here the whole time" while there are parts where she says she would a superior match to the other girl - such as getting his jokes, etc... in this line, the context to me is as the original commenter said, stating how unnoticeable she is , while the other girl is center of attention. otherwise the comparison of cheer captain / bleachers doesn't make sense, since literally 'sitting on the sidelines' isn't a superior act, she doesn't say she's reading a book or studying or whatever lol, she's literally saying she sits there and watches it all happen because she's part of the background, doesn't stand out, and he doesn't notice her.
      The music video also establishes this by having TS play both characters, where it isn't about being superior to the other girl, but being jealous of her and the other 'self' that you could have been, the way she fails to be traditionally feminine. It is also important to recognise that TS who wrote this, has always been a hyperfeminine person herself, who loved to wear dresses and short skirts, so her critique of femininity in this way doesn't make contextual sense.

    I think crazy ex girlfriend, as you mentioned in the video, is a great subversion of the trope. While, in the beginning, Rebecca resents Valencia for having everything she doesn't (including but not limiting to Josh) by the end they stop letting this fact come between them and are able to become actual friends. And that's just what the show does with almost any trope

The only thing I would change is the quote in 5:00 “even if she’s not aware she’s *making* the man cheat” since that implies that she’s a temptation he can’t resist and frames his bad behaviour on her, which I know it’s not the intention of the video at all!

    For the instance where love triangles involve cheating in an established relationship, let me point out something. Women aren’t always angels or good. Women are just as capable of proactively being destructive and contributing to patriarchy as men are. When it comes to cheating, with the “other woman” there’s two scenarios. 1) She was tricked or lied to about the wife or girlfriend or maybe did not consent. In that case, she is absolutely an innocent and a victim. Two) she 100% knows and consents to have an affair. In that case, she did something downright horrible and destructive and should share equal (not all BUT neither none) of the blame and the only victim is the poor wife or girlfriend.

    To me Love Triangles always seem sexist against women. If it's two women and one man, then it's sexist against women for pitting them against each other to win a man. If its two men and one woman, then it's sexist against women for being treated as a prize for the men to fight each other with, and they have to deal with their toxic masculinity.
    The Vampire Diaries is possibly the only time that we see a love triangle where the women is in power. And I know that it had a million love triangles, but I am talking about the love triangle between Katherine, Damon and Stefan. In the flashbacks we see that these two brothers are completely under the control of Katherine. That she's playing with them, controlling them, it's not toxic masculinity that turns it into a love triangle. It's her. She wants both of them for herself, regardless of what they want.

    Maybe its a different video, but far more common is the 'forgetting sarah marshal' kind of deal where the girl dumps the guy, and it becomes his story, and about three quarters of the way through you know darn well that his ex will see him with another girl and 'oh no, what have I done". And usually she'll make a pass at him with about zero consideration for the new girlfriend.

But it has become almost a trope for the rival (usually a more feminine and prettier woman) to come out as gay or bisexual and then exclusively be interested in women for the rest of the show so that the main character no longer needs to feel threatened and thus they can be friends.

    That was a overall great video! I just wish by the end you'd bring some more Taylor Swift's music, since You Belong With Me, written 15 years ago by a then teenager, was - rightfully so - used several times to demonstrate the bad representation of a love triagle, I think it would be very insightful to bring up some of her new music that represents the the empathetic vision of the "other woman", like August, and Illicit Affairs, in which the first person voice is given to the "third party" of a relationship (the same also happens in the music video for "Babe"). It's interesting to see how Taylor's evolution is related to, of course, her aging, but also to the way young people's media has evolved in regards to the love triagle subject. I think it would be fair to bring it back up in the current media better representation part, in which you cited music, and it would be a neat closing with the message that one can grow and change for better. :)

    I'm not trying to pull a whataboutism here. But from the media I see. It always seems like the men are at fault for fighting over women. The male characters are portrayed as prideful egomaniacs who can't control their anger. While the female character is portrayed as someone innocent who did nothing wrong.
    Flip the gender roles. Now the two female characters are the ones being manipulated by the evil male character, who is trying to destroy their friendship.
    What I'm trying to say here is. That female rivalry in fiction seems like best friends fighting over a stupid guy trope. They even learn a lesson at the end of the episode or movie.
    While the male rivalries seem like it's just based on stupid pride. And hurt male egos.

    You should probably spend more time explaining WHY you think a classic love triangle is based on misogyny, instead of just SAYING it is. It would make your case a lot stronger 😬. All you have done here is break down a love triangle, you have done very little to show why these factors of a love triangle are misogynistic
    I mean come on.....how does nobody see that the provided suggestions to "fix love triangles" are extremely problematic? The only ways for a love triangle to not be "misogynistic" mean women must team up in a "sisters" moment, or get together themselves? In what way is that realistic? Women can't just "choose to be gay". That's now how being gay works. And "women unite against men" is an extremely toxic, counterproductive mentality to combat misogyny. You don't propagate tribalism to combat forms of oppression resulting from tribalism.

  • @artightrokay9131

    Firstly, you haven't explained how Love triangles and female rivalry is a product of misogyny.
    especially when love triangles have been popularized by YA romance novels, honestly, middle age sexually frustrated women writing trash books about their sexual fantasies with teenage boys has done so much damage to literature and society as a whole, it'd probably make for a better video subject than this.
    it seems to me that you see any hostility or opposition (for lack of a better term) by women to women is caused by misogyny, do women have no agency for their own toxic feelings? I realize i might be coming off as hostile here but english isn't my first language so bare with me here.
    The end of the video you call for better love triangles but imo i dont think that could ever be possible, love triangles is a horrible trope that should die whether its between the Smart and the bitchy woman or the dark haired broody man and the female protags nerdy bestfriend.
