- One of the things I loved about the show that I thought was amazing is in the middle of all this mayhem, you suddenly get this amazing peace of character pathos (when Economos was explaining why he dyes his beard for example), which was such a BEAUTIFUL scene. All the shots and cutaways to Peacemaker’s face like, I mean, you really felt it. I think it’s safe to say that we all became the characters in the show and just completely forgot about the bigger problems. That’s how good it is
Set after the events of the film (The Suicide Squad), the series follows jingoistic killer Christopher Smith / Peacemaker as he joins "Project Butterfly", a black ops squad that targets extra-terrestrial parasitic butterfly-like creatures.

This was brilliant on the part of the writers. You think that it's going to be the payoff to a season long joke and then it ends up punching you in the gut.
especially when Peacemaker scoffs. you think “he is going to clown his ass after this” but he actually learned a lesson.
You never think Economos is gonna be the one to hurt your heart, and yet here we are.
It’s kind of amazing that James Gunn was able to take Economos and Harcourt, two characters you probably couldn’t care less about in The Suicide Squad, and make them fully fleshed out characters who you actively root for.
Stupid names tho
And people still have the audacity to shit on them.
@@marcelo2169 Harcourt definitely does sound a little campy, Economos just sounds greek to me.
They were the crux of the end of the movie... Wtf are you talking about?
@@marcelo2169 that's comic characters for you. Not much worse than Marvel's hardon for alliteration names. Peter Parker, Bruce Banner, Green Goblin, Wade Wilson...etc. etc. OR the weird thing comics rom all brands do where they give their characters names related to their powers as if their parents knew they'd get powers. Roy G. Bivolo. William Tockman. Pretty much all of CWVerse villains are like this.
I enjoy the stance the writers took on this. The “dye beard” reference starts out almost like a gag, and you think it’s gonna go that route. But once he starts explaining it, you see that it delves more into Economos’ insecurities and sense of self. And instead of laughing it all off, you see that Chris feels bad about making fun of him. True friends all the way
Never thought James Gunn was gonna use the dye beard joke as an allegory for bullying. Really a good scene that makes you reconsider your actions no matter how inconsequential you might have thought teasing someone about something as little as dying their beard can do to a persons psyche and emotionsb
I understand it differently. I get the vibe that he is actually greateful to peacemaker in a way, cause previously nobody paid him any attention, not even to notice his dye beard.
@@nicktlk I agree with both interpretations, they are becoming friends and friends rag on each other like that to help the other out when their communication skills are not fully developed
i cried when he said “Mostly though, he never thought anybody noticed…until recently. When one guy said it to him all the time” I have been there… I know some of you have too. Sometimes what we are dealing with emotionally overcomes what we care about physically.
It's like being overweight, thinking no one cares, than someone keeps making fun of your weight and make you super self-conscious and shitty about it.

@@Damar158 I've lost alot of weight(I was already smaller) but now I'm considerably looking like death or atleast thats how I see myself and I'm very self-conscious about it.. Alot of people don't realize it but it's just as hard for some of us to put on weight as it is to lose weight.
It has been a real eye opener for me.. I don't want people judging me so why would I judge others... Unfortunately our entire society is based off judging books by their cover. EVERYONE does it.. It's like shitty human nature.. I've seriously been trying to change.
When economos voice cracks when he says, "When one guy said it to him all the time." You can see the regret on Peacemakers face. This scene man. It broke me heart.
i never even thought i would like Economos as much as i would but was straight crying during this scene and the scene after bc I really thought he was going to die here💔😭 he’s a great actor bc i could hear the pain in his voice delivering this line! #ECONOGOAT

I know what it’s like to be bullied and it hurts me to hear him feel hurt.
As emotional as this scene was i wanna just point out how obvious it was that he's not a butterfly because they don't express that much emotion in their speech and that voice break at the end of the speech sealed it
You're right but you're also wrong because we didn't see enough butterflies disclosing thoughts and feelings like this aside from the scene he shared with Clemson Murn to know exactly how all of them talk. he actually did an excellent job of impersonating the butterflies because he drew from that interaction with Murn while they were nailing trail cams or whatever to a tree.
Actually that's not true, the butterfly that took over Officer Song begrudgingly tells her partner how much she cared about her before he also gets taken over.
They do feel, and they have both empathy and remorse for what they're doing. But they see humans destroying the same kind of ecosystem they did, and will do what they have to in an effort to preserve it.
That's why she empathized with Peacemaker. She saw his pain, under the bravado. He wanted to be a 'peace maker'. Someone who ended the violence. So that no death would ever be in vain.
They, like Peacemaker, believe that sacrifices have to be made in order to save the world.
It isn't malace. It is love and regret.
He nailed this interaction and drew from the scene where Murn shares his feelings for the first time and does a near perfect imitation of a butterfly occupied human sharing the feelings/experiences of their host. The guy he's selling it to even sympathizes with him saying humans can be so cruel, so, you know John nailed it.
