H/H match update and preview of the week ahead: ... Now we're up to week 166 of our favorite classic game show (the final week will be 291). These episodes were taped on October 2, 1976 and first aired in late October and early November of 1976. Our three stalwart regulars are all in their places with bright, shiny faces, and this week they're joined by: ~~~Semi-regular Joyce Bulifant, returning after four weeks away for her 22nd week (of 38). Joyce sits near the top of the leader board with three matches out of four attempts. ~~~Avery Schreiber, back for his 8th week (of 14). He last visited in 726-730 (which was also a Joyce Bulifant week, coincidentally), and he remains a H/H virgin. ~~~And finally, Nancy Kulp becomes the latest in a long string of Match Game celebrity panelists to spend only one week with us. Last week Richard regained his status as King of the H/H Match Segment, playing three out of four times, but those three misses brought him back below Brett as far as overall success rate in matching contestants. Reviewing the past 21 weeks, Richard has played 82 times. Everyone else combined played 22 times. (Brett had 8 opportunities, Fannie 6, Charles 6, Betty 1, and Lynn Deerfield 1.) Percentage-wise, Richard played 78.8% of the time over those past 21 weeks. This week, I'd love to see Joyce have another shot at the head-to-head match! And Avery is an entertaining panelist, a decent game player, and a familiar Match Game face by now. I'd love to see his name finally added to the list of celebs who've scored a H/H match. But whatever happens in the H/H this week, I'm looking forward to a five episodes chock-full of ___________! ~~~Today's action: We start right of with the H/H match! (Last episode, our brand-new champion won his first game, and then just as time ran out, pocketed $500 in the audience match.) So after the big Gene/Nancy smooch, some small talk, and the technicians playing with the lights, our new champion finally gets to play the H/H. (He actually had to wait almost two full weeks, since the prior episode was taped on Sunday September 19th and this one was taped on Saturday October 2nd.) Plus, he's looking at a half-new panel of celebrities! He chose Didi Conn, Richard, and Charles for his suggestions last time. Who does he pick to help him today? No hesitation. It's Richard. -- He's matched three of his ten most recent attempts. Looking further back, he's matched six of his 23 most recent attempts (26.1%). Today's H/H question: "Comic _______ " (Book came to mind first. Strip would be my second choice.) Richard begins to write almost before Gene finishes the question. Then just before he files the card, he has a change of heart. He stops and looks at his answer for a moment, writes something else, and files his card. The contestant says "Strip" and receives a healthy round of applause. And the week gets off to a good start when Richard breaks his losing streak by revealing "Strip." Richard scores his 205th H/H match today. (And regains the thinnest of leads over Brett in overall accuracy!) ~~~And then a long game with a tie-breaker eats up the time, making this is one of those rare episodes with a H/H match but no audience match at all! ~~~Here's our updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: (Note: An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she has "retired" from the show and her H/H stats are now complete.) (Note: For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.) Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Charles - 50.8% (30 wins in 59 attempts). TIE: Betty - 50.0% (18 wins in 36 attempts). TIE: Fannie - 50.0% (13 wins in 26 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Richard - 40.9% (205 wins in 501 attempts). -- 40.9181% Brett - 40.9% (27 wins in 66 attempts). -- 40.9090% Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 826, excluding the lost/missing/damaged episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, and 645. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")
As of Aug 2024 Miss Bulifant is the only survivor . She was considered as a comic mom on The Brady Bunch but the producers changed their mind . They brought in Miss Henderson as a more down to earth mom and changed to a more comic housekeeper with Miss Kulp's old Bob Cummings co star Ann B Davis ,
Robert Grant -- please list dates and episodes where anyone was forced or told to pick Richard for ANYTHING. The reason he was upset about the wheel was because he truly believed the contestant should be able to choose who they wanted, whether they picked him or not. There were many reasons they picked him but it was their choice, not Richards.
Yeah, it's like on Pyramid, where you get to choose to give or recieve in the winner's circle. It didn't happen all that often, so Dick stopped asking every time in the 80's.... but even then, the contestant STILL had the choice.
The star wheel was the best thing to happen to this show. Followed closely by when that whiny baby Dawson mercifully left. I cheered when these things happened.
True story she was the original Carol Brady on The Brady Bunch, but she was playing her in auditions and screen tests the way you would imagine Joyce playing her, kind of childlike and zany. When they hired Ann B. Davis to play Alice and they realized how funny she was, they decided for contrast Mrs. Brady should be a little more serious so they replaced Joyce with Florence Henderson. All three Brady girls were originally cast partly because they looked like they could realistically be Joyce’s children.
@@EastSide-qc5oy I knew Joyce was the original choice for Carol and that Jan was cast because she looked so much like Joyce, but I didn't know the rest. It makes sense though. Joyce is kinda child-like herself to be playing a mother. I agree with casting choices. I feel like she could've had a recurring role though. Maybe she could've been a relative of Carol. Like a cousin or sister.
In this episode it looks like Brett cheated with the steam iron. She never took the answer out from the slot and that’s why her light never went out. It appears as though she wrote several answers to the iron question.
Nancy Kulp never seemed to change in appearance or character from 1953s Shane as one of pioneer ladies to an interview shortly before her demise , Same slender figure same hairstyle same droll attitude ,
Oh don't be haters. Nobody's perfect, including Bret Somers - although she may be close. She had a few "minor" imperfections - extreme narcissm, condescending, rude, vapid, trivial, delusional, irrational .........
This show mainly focuses on Richard, notice how they keep putting shots of him when every good looking girl comes on or he says some stupid comment? it" sickening how he loves himself. I bet he paid the cameraman to do that.
She was a Lesbian. 1) Lesbians know other Lesbians 2) Her exclusive interview with Boze Hadleigh says so and she even talks about other Lesbians, Lesbian culture, how she would never reciprocate attraction to a man, etc. Quit erasing Lesbians!

Nancy Kulp looked great here
Wow, your standards are low😁
Compared to her on The BHB she does look.. ok as herself. 🙋

If I was the judge, I would have also said cutting a lawn is the same as mowing a lawn.
So many double standards in the judging. In one episode, close is accepted. In another, only exact is accepted.
