My father passed away earlier this afternoon. 62 years old.
Every Sunday he would make breakfast for us growing up, and he would have this album on cassette just playing on repeat and singing every word.
My father is the reason I love Keith Whitley and country music the way that I do.

Of course it's possible we got it wrong, but not for lack of effort. Hank Williams was before 1960 but we added him in.

I found this song and it made me cry. Alcohol killed this poor guy. Being a good looking guy with all he had going for him and he drank himself to death. I haven't anything to offer anyone. I can relate to his struggles with addiction. Through my time of self discovery and going through the physical/ Emotional sobriety,
I have to say that there's very few artists that helped me through the hard times .. but Keith's story and his music inspired me to continue to "keep fighting the good fight."

His life of addiction and death made for one hell of a sad documentary. He was absolutely brimming with talent and by all accounts was a super good guy. Those addiction demons are sure hard to shake.
Sadly many have internal demons that are just hard to shake or ever fully overcome, addiction being one of the worst. You try to live life as best as you can but sometimes theres no warning before those deamons take hold and might take you all the way to your death bed.

It’s probably not one I think about when I think about my favorite songs/artists (I can never decide between Conway Twitty and The King of Country, George Strait, and of corse, Reba!) but whenever I see or hear someone talking about how they miss the music they grew up, that one always comes to mind.

He was a great singer and performer but he didn't write this or most of his other hits if any.. most older country musicians didnt write their own songs.
Probably one of country music greatest. Extremely underrated. He put his entire heart and soul in his music. You can actually feel the music deep inside your body. He left us way too soon. His music could make a cowboy shed tears.
Fortunately his music will be around forever.

You know I was sitting in my car while my wife was shopping and I sang this..a lady stopped next to me and thanked me for singing it, she was crying and did it was so beautiful, her mom listened to KW quite often, made me feel kinda cool that someone else was appreciating his song.❤❤

Sad to think of all he had to live for and yet he couldn't stand the pain of life as it was for him. :-( What a tragic loss for lovers of country music.
