Tell that to all the Peterbilt, kenworth drivers out there. A million miles is a million miles no matter if you’ve rebuilt, replaced or refurbed the power plant. No vehicle is meant to work under those conditions for that amount of time

After going through 3 engines you would think he would change his oil more often. Most other million milers change under 5k and they are still on their first engine.
This is something to be proud of? One of my old GMC vans at work went 400K on a 4.8/4l60E. I wanted to take a crack at 500, (I'm pretty sure she would have made it). Maintenance said have at it but legal shut us down.

Not unusual with a good bypass system. Oil analysis says it's still good, then it's still good. 800k on the original engine is plenty respectable. He may have gotten more if he didn't always buy the cheapest oil, though.
this guy's so committed to this truck dodge needs to give the man a new truck especially after 3 engines and 12 Trans, I would have just got a chevy after the first 2 transmissions !!!
Liked it👍 At first I was thinking man thats a lot of transmissions and quite a few engines. But then I thought, well I guess it depends on how hard the trucks worked and it seemed to me from the interview that this fella loves his truck but works it hard. It seemed to have mods that were consistent with getting the most work out of the truck as efficiently or cost effectively as possible. I have 350,000 plus on my 2008 4.0 V6 Nissan Frontier and I use it for work every day but I dont pull heavy trailers with it on a daily basis and when I do pull a loaded 6X12 cargo trailer for work I can tell how much harder the truck is working. I know the Cummins diesels rep as a great engine but hard work destroys everything eventually. My Frontier has lived the same life as my previous 2001 Toyota Tundra 4.7 V8 4X4 (the million mile Tundra engine) and the Tundra only made it 270,000 before it had a serious cam shaft issue in the engine. Maintenance is very important but so is how hard your working your truck, its not just maintenance.
Man behind the camera said " he did all his own service, never taken to a dealer" as if it was negative or a mark against the maintenance during his ownership. I immediately thought, well thats why it made it so many miles. Hard to find people who do things right but even if you do, Nobody treats your vehicle as well as you do.
Yep. I have 400,000 miles on a Hyundai, original engine and trans, never opened up, still going strong with working AC and everything else. 5000 mile Walmart oil changes. No special maintenance.

Oh jeeze where do I start. Around 366k miles per engine on average. That's trash for a diesel engine. Around 89k miles on average per transmission but he gets over 90k miles on the rear tires. Let that sink in he swaps his transmission more than his tires. At some point a Allison transmission would be a good idea. NONE of this is impressive.
Awesome it really shows what a little maintenance, care and ingenuity will get you. The 5 speed I understand replacing lol we hauled a trans am on car trailer and my buddy driving got a little pissed and clutch kicked it at about 2500 and it sheared the main shaft in half lol. But before that we did the mod to the 5 speed where you weld that damn collar onto 5th gear I mind serves me right. And never had that again until it got sheared in half. But other than that. It had almost 500,000 miles on it and he had put a programmer on it, cold air intake with a hood vent. No stack just straight 4 or 5 inch, plus 150 hp injectors idk what else. But it still runs great today and it's a 97 or 98 so 24 valve. Buy was traded to a family member and still running today.

This guy’s logic is hilarious. Cant find the oil leak, probably a gasket so I’m just gonna replace the engine. Running 30k on oil changes when even the latest and greatest 6.7 calls for 15k. The Detroit DD series engines call for 50k max OTR and that’s the best in the commercial industry running 11 gallons of 10w-30. I wish there were more guys like this in OTR trucking. Every diesel mechanic in the U.S. would be making 6 figures easily.
A million mile Tundra would go through 11 transmissions too if you shifted like this guy probably does, and 3 engines when you get 30,000 mile oil changes lmao (Also, this truck probably has twice the payload capacity of even a brand new Tundra, so the comparison just isn't there)

Thats not a million miles truck then... Its a million mile chassis, the truck itself has had 12 trans and 3 motors so that doesn't really count.
Was thinking the exact same thing. New motor resets the mileage
Tell that to all the Peterbilt, kenworth drivers out there. A million miles is a million miles no matter if you’ve rebuilt, replaced or refurbed the power plant. No vehicle is meant to work under those conditions for that amount of time
1992 Ford F-Superduty 7.3diesel manual ZF5 speed (2nd) trans with a tow truck century wheel lift bed dually 10bolt lug pattern (1st) engine failed at 880,000 but took me home got second engine used just rebuilt heads did myself now it has 261,000 ran outside to check lol and just like Him proud to say I will never sell this baby!!!! Daily driven and used to haul customer cars.
My dad has 450k plus on his original trans and engine same truck this guy must pull really heavy loads or just lacks on maintenance
I think even pulling heavy loads the truck will be fine/some wear. I think this truck lacked maintenance or he had some bad luck
He uses it for what the truck is for. Towing.
@@briangutierrez8886 And usually trucks used for work get used everyday and maintained poorly
THANKS for taking the time to share your story.
This is a crazy story! Good for him! I would never have the patience to deal with anywhere near that many extensive repairs.
I have 330k+ on original 99 Chevy Silverado 1500 engine and 1 transmission. Still runs like a champ
This is honestly really impressive I blew my engine and transmission around 80,000 and that was the last dodge I ever bought
I've got a 379 Pete with a million 2 on it with the original transmission and engine.
6NZ i assume? Or is it a 3406?

After going through 3 engines you would think he would change his oil more often. Most other million milers change under 5k and they are still on their first engine.
Exactly what I was thinking 🤣. Or even every 8-10k
I have a 2006 that I bought new basically the same truck. I have 330k miles on it and still going strong
This is something to be proud of? One of my old GMC vans at work went 400K on a 4.8/4l60E. I wanted to take a crack at 500, (I'm pretty sure she would have made it). Maintenance said have at it but legal shut us down.
I’ve always said that sooner or later if you drive a lot you’ll own Michelin‘s they go the distance
Talking about will last
Tires are compounds not brands ... So any tire with the compound of the tires you are
My ltx m/s2 last 29k before they needed to be replaced and they wouldn’t honor the warranty.
Bought a brand new Springer in October 20 came with michelin's. 60000 miles in there about cooked might get 80 out of them since spring is here but I doubt it. Coopers are just as good and made in usa! Cheaper . I'm an expediter all highway rotate at 20k
I only run the Bridgestone Duravis R500 and M700. They are twice the tire of the Michelins.
My 2 1997 Cummins are the best. I have a dually and 4x4. It’s called Cummins 6bt.
Holy shit 12 transmissions!
That's a lot of money!
30,000 mile oil changes😂😂. That’s probably why he’s gone through so many engines. Oil breaks down with heat it doesn’t matter how clean it looks.
Actually, I surprised, that he replaced only 3 of them.
He said he got 800,000 miles out of his first one
Not unusual with a good bypass system. Oil analysis says it's still good, then it's still good. 800k on the original engine is plenty respectable. He may have gotten more if he didn't always buy the cheapest oil, though.
Legend has it that arm still itchin baby
Hahahahah!!! Yea, I noticed that too!!
Hahahahahahaha yep
this guy's so committed to this truck dodge needs to give the man a new truck especially after 3 engines and 12 Trans, I would have just got a chevy after the first 2 transmissions !!!
Agreed. Latest and greatest Dodge Ram
He’s very dedicated
@@ricksanchez7999 he’s very stupid
Great truck, cool owner! Great video man
Uhhh, he said the magic phrase. "I've never hit one" I'm willing to bet he hit one within the week after recording this.
😂 right.
@@Pickuptrucktalk Thats how it goes lol. I hope he didn't but its always went that way. Especially during the rut.
My dads best friend ran his 1997 to a million miles on his original engine. My dad has 700,000 on his 1997.5 original engine.
This good man deserves a Nobel Prize of persistence and loyalty.
I say it doesn't count if you swap the engine.
Yep. I have 400,000 miles on a Hyundai, original engine and trans, never opened up, still going strong with working AC and everything else. 5000 mile Walmart oil changes. No special maintenance.
Absolutely.
@@TheBandit7613 and don’t even have a tow hitch on it. And you probably weigh 150 pounds so you’re car has really been loaded and working both ways going to the grocery store and coming home with your polar pop
That’s what trucking is about! Good man! I really wish trucks were still made like that in the USA.
I got one with nearly a million on it with original engine and one transmission rebuild. Only “major” things done to the engine are one injection pump rebuild due to a gas station attendant putting gasoline in it instead of diesel and one head gasket job... otherwise 100% original engine
I got a 01 24v with 433k on the clock original motor just 5spd swapped so I don’t have trans issues
So what do you do during your coffee break.
Oh nothing major, just put a new transmission in my truck that will hopefully last till lunch 😂😅
As a french man i 'm impressed by the 1.5 millions miles Dodge with the same tires Michelin, it 's incredible . LOL
Several sets to be clear.
@@Pickuptrucktalk yes for sure ; )
The biggest question for me was how many miles he was getting out of the stock holset turbo but that question was never asked?
Holy. Fucking. Shit.
12 transmissions didn't surprise me at all... until he said they were NV4500s. THAT is some impressive carnage!
I've got 340k on mine, but I've wanted a G56 for a while. :3
This guy is wayyyyyy easier to listen to than the duramax guy

Hey Tim I had a 99 Chevy suburban I bought brand new snow plow prep package are use it as my car and my work truck I pulled the trailer for landscaping used it for recreation 400,000 miles all original the only problem my head with this truck at this mileage the rear air conditioner nobody could find a problem at that time so I got rid of it it didn’t burn a drop of oil what an amazing truck this was I currently have a 2005 Cadillac Escalade with a 60 Motor I bought brand new 220,000 miles runs excellent does not burn oil and Lou of what’s going on in the world today with cars and trucks I think I’ll run it up to 400,000 miles before I buy a new one
How about the 2001 7.3 with a million Miles on it and I think the only thing the man did was regular maintenance and a few little odds and ends but not three motor swaps lol
Yeah I have a 95 7.3 factory engine and transmission 410k
My dad's 99 7.3 has just about 500k everything is factory on it

I have a 97 7.3 that has 440k original trans and engine

7.3s don’t make enough power to kill themselves that’s why they’re reliable
I saw a 1997 Ram 3500 with 106,000,000 miles on it. Same engine, had transmission work!
One Hundred, six Million Miles........Uh SURE......
Must have meant to put 1,600,000
This old timer makes me feel like an idiot. He is so versed on everything it seems. I hope to be like him one day,
This guy’s logic is hilarious.
My axe has a new handle and a new blade. It’s mostly original
Exactly!
A true million miler has original motor and transmission all matching numbers
I’ll keep my tundra. I like reliability
A million mile Tundra would go through 11 transmissions too if you shifted like this guy probably does, and 3 engines when you get 30,000 mile oil changes lmao

I don't see an issue with an engine swap. $2500 engine (1500 5.2) and $2k labor vs $600 a month truck payments for a truck with 1 million sensors in them.
I from Ontario Canada an have owned two these trucks.. an 01 3500 2 wd Cummins 24 valve six speed an a 96 12 valve Cummins 3500 4 wd automatic ... the 01 I bought brand new An 96 I bought used with only 100 k on it .. both used hauling .. 01 was used to haul 4 car trailer an rvs an 96 rvs .. I liked the 96 much better an had better luck with automatic then the six speed .. but didn’t stay into them more than 300ish k An went into my big rig hauling .. but a friend I use to haul with had a 99/2000 3500 Cummins 5 speed an put over a million miles on it an it was original engine very very well maintained an trans was rebuilt once .. he used it to haul rvs an boats an it is in maculate shape to this day .. very well maintained an has original body an paint .. always washed an waxed .. Oh dang finally someone running the fleetguard venturi bypass oil filter! Sweet.
Owned 3 dodges the last one I owned put 3 trans. In it but as far as the engine was concerned it ran over 670k miles before the truck was retired not because of the engine but because the front end was ready to fall out of it pulled a 3 car trailer its whole life loved that truck only thing I had to do to the engine was replace the fuel rail.
Cool truck. My dad came home one time with a big dent in the back bumper of his truck. He told mom a pine tree jumped out in the road as he was backing up.
That happens, especially at the end of winter.
I had 240k miles on my Ford Ranger.(distance to the moon) I had replaced only the front tie rod bushings plus regular oil changes and tires. Then a young lady was distracted by texting and smashed into the back when I was stopped for traffic. Totaled. I'm pretty sure I could have gotten 500k with no big issues.
BTW, I got out and was laying down very stunned in the ditch on the side of the road. The young lady was still texting her friends 10 minutes after the wreck. I had to get up, find my phone in the wrecked heap, find the battery, boot it, and call 911.

What is floats gears?
@@dpeagles it’s when you don’t use the clutch to shift. It’s very hard on your synchronizers and can destroy your transmission some transmissions are built to handle it like a semi transmission. In semi trucks your supposed to float gears

12:23 yes filtration is important but you get fuel past your rings in every engine. That dilutes the oil. Can't filter that
The engine should have worked that long if he took care of it. No reason to swap a 12v
Your absolutely right
Agreed, I do believe he said it started to smoke some so he replaced it, should have found out what the problem was and just fixed it, it was probably replaced tho because it was likely rings
I think Gale Banks would have something to say about the diff cover.
This isn't really an advertisement for Ram. 3 different engines and 12 transmissions. That's horrible.
You mean dodge hasn’t historically had transmission issues?
Rams new German designed ZF 8 speeds in the 1500s & 6.4 gas HDs are top shelf in my experience. Mild 270HP 465TQ Ecodiesel used commercially to transport travel trailers went 700,000 miles before first transmission issue. A simple solenoid. Unfortunately built into a board it was cheaper to swap in a used one at $1260 plus labor than to fix it.
