Honestly, Zlatan is the last showman in top flight professional football. The amount of swagger and confidence along with his ability to consistently score aerodynamic goals is something a lot of current young and experience footballers are either afraid or can rarely do. Zlatan is a living highlight reel. I hope we get more players that can put on a show just like the past greats such as R9, Ronaldinho, Maldini, drogba etc.

Add to that much of the physical aspects of the game have been removed. You see it in all sports where players play much longer. Compare that to the pitches people like Matthews had to play on, the physical aspect of the game where the tackle from behind was legal. Where substitutes did not exist and cup games could go to multiple replays. Where fielding a weakened side resulted in fines. For a player to reach the age of 50 back then was much harder than a player getting to 35 nowadays.

Even with the squads they have today the managers would have been up in arms complaining. As for toughness there is nothing remotely close to the level of physical contact today compared to back then back then. Then you look at the quality of pitches that they were playing on. As for your final comment most players even with the wage cap were earning well above the average wage so had no need for a second job and as they were expected to train every morning and rest in the afternoon they were unable to hold a second job. That statement alone shows how much you know about football back then.
