  • How many miles did you have on your bike when it needed its first repair? Was the first repair expensive?

    I agree with you no brand is exempt from a breakdown. I owned a Triumph Trophy (2015) and I had to change the battery. However, I didn't tighten the bolts and nuts up tight enough and my bike stopped dead on the E260 in Arizona between Payson and Heber at night. Well they came loose and fell off the battery and it stopped dead in the middle of the night. How embarrassing. I had to call up a tow truck to haul me back to Payson AZ for the night. I left my tools at home. Lesson learnt. Great video glad that it was only a loose wire

    A little over 35,000 on my Ultra Classic. The intake had come loose from both cylinders while I was out on a trip going from WV to Missouri. Harley dealer in Tennessee put my bike right in their shop ahead of everything else and got me back on the road asap. Thanks Harley for the tremendous service, 😎!

    First breakdown on my Kawasaki was the 2002 Nomad in 2010 and it was the solenoid and it was in the middle of no where...probably had 55,000 miles on it. My humorous story was on a ride with a bunch of Harleys and the air horn I had on my Nomad fell off due to metal fatigue of the mount...but hey, it was a Harley horn that failed. My Can Am Spyder was a whole different story...the first year I had that it spent as much time in their shop for warranty repairs as it did in my garage. In fact, the day the solenoid failed on my Nomad, I had a loaner Spyder due to the water pump being bad on my Spyder...and the loaner Spyder had a computer failure and wouldn't start. Not a good weekend... In 200,000+ miles on a motorcycle since 1997 (when I bought my 1st street bike, a Vulcan 500), I have only been left stranded the one time and that was the Nomad solenoid. The good news is that I wasn't alone.

    My 2019 Indian Springfield needed a new key fob (wouldn't stay married to the bike) and gear positioner vcr fix within the first week of purchase, quickly fixed and not a problem since, just had it's 15k service, and it is still stunning. Cruiser Heaven, all day, every day!

      @@paulh6101 I don't remember my 10k service cost, I think it was mostly just oil change. 15k cost me $300.

      @@roguecheddar when is your fork oil change scheduled?

    • @roguecheddar
      @roguecheddar 2 місяці тому

      @@paulh6101 Fork oil is scheduled every 15k miles, I did not have mine done at 15k, as no leaks at all and suspension is still riding plush. I will at 30k. At 15k most of all the work is inspection and only replacing anything if needed and minor cable adjustments. The Springfield has been great.

    Wife and I have 2 Victory Cross Country's.
    Her 1st failure was 50K, when the shifter bolt broke.
    Mine - I have 80K plus, only failure was the rubber vent tube fitting (rubber) split. Hard to call that a failure, as it did not strand me.

    1st day I had my year 2000 Suzuki vl1500 intruder I took the bumper off a parked subaru. Good times. That bike left me stranded a handful of times because of 1. Weak old batteries, 2. "Dummy switch" on the clutch lever- it's a suzuki thing, 3. Decompression cable gets stretched. Supposedly it opens up a valve so that the engine turns over easier since its 1500 cc's. Sold that bike with 85,000 miles on the odometer after I put in 60,000 miles. Bought it for about $7k in 2005 and sold it for $2,000 in 2022. Honestly that was a loyal bike to me, oil changes tires spark plugs every few other oil changes, and the diagnostic and repair of the switches on the handlebars because I rolled in the rain and the connections got corroded. No valve adjustments needed because it was hydraulic something gimmicky working type. Clutch at 60k miles.
    Now I have a Moto Guzzi TT85 centenario, waiting on my adventure helmets to arrive at cyclegear.

    I have a 16 Road Master with 50K on it and just had to put fork seals in it, but you're supposed to change fork oil at 50K anyway so it wasn't too bad. It isn't cheap though. I also have a 93 Honda 1100 Shadow that I bought new and it has 53K on it. The only thing that went wrong on it was a rear differential seal that leaked after the first winter I had it. They replaced that under warranty so that didn't cost me anything. I had a 07 Ultra Classic that I put about 30K on and I had several problems with that.

      I forgot to mention, I also had to replace the fork seal, but that is more or a maintenance issue, similar to brake pads, But you are correct, it isn't cheap.

    16K mi. and no issues yet. I don't count the genius that backed into my front fender while it was parked. That was just sheer stupidity.

    More of a lack of maintenance. Not getting on you as most of us skip stuff. The click should mean the solenoid🦇 is working.
