He would have taken all of Asia, but his greedy generals, wanted their're own kingdoms and no more wars, so they plotted to have him killed, Alexander biggest mistakes was trusting his own friends, and not supplying his army with fresh troops, especially new generals.

According to Plutarch, Alexander was a descendant of Ajax through his father Neoptolemos and this is accepted without discussion.
According to Justin, Philip married Olympias, daughter of Neoptolemos, king of the Molosses.
All the authors thus agree on the fact that Alexander the Great was the grandson of a Molossian.
For those who do not know this tribe (the Molossians), who were they, what territory did they occupy and how were they considered by the ancient authors ?
Let us stop for a moment to know more about the tribe of the Molossians from which the mother of Alexander the Great came.
To make it simple, the tribe of Molossians is in Epirus somewhere in the region of Chamerie on the back of Thesprotians who dominated the coastal part.
In addition to this, the Kaons who were in the south of present-day Albania and who constituted three of the great tribes of Epirus.
Historically, tribes like the Molossians or others who composed Epirus like the Kaons, the Thesprotians, the Paraue, the Antintans and others, are historically linked to the Illyrian (🇦🇱) culture or to a part of it.
As Thucydides tells us about the events of the Peloponnesian War that involved both actually in reality Illyrians and Illyria itself, these tribes were commonly considered barbarian (non-Greek) tribes.
Thucydides: - "Among the barbarians there were about 1,000 Kaons who ruled without a king. Along with the Kaons, the Thesprotians also participated and were also ruled without a king. There were also the MOLOSSIANS, the Atintants and the Paraues.

The Kaons, the Thesprotians of Chamerie, the Arintans and the Parauets constitute the backbone of what one called Epirus.
Among them are of course the Molossians where are the roots of the family of the mother of Alexander the Great !

According to the encyclopedia Basic Antiquity, composed of 86 volumes... Pauly Wissowa the Real "Encyclopedia Alterumswissenschaft" says that the Epirotes are of Illyrian origin 🇦🇱 and have strong links with the population of southern Italy!
More concise on the issue, the only Nobel Prize in history 🎓 is none other than Theodor Mommsen author of the cycle "Corpus of Antiquity inscriptions" which says that: - "the brave Epirotes, the Albanians 🇦🇱 of antiquity supported with traditional loyalty the young and brave Pyrrhus or "the Eagle" as they called him " .
Let us point out on this subject that the Albanians name themselves "Shqiptar", that is to say "sons or children of the eagle".
The soldiers of Pyrrhus (3rd century BC / Epirote King), called their King "the Eagle" and that the latter retroqued them one day that they were his "children", so the Albanians are the children of the Eagle ...

(Pyrrhus was the cousin of Alexander the Great, of the Molossian tribe and himself an ambitious conqueror, Pyrrhus is one of the most formidable adversaries of the early days of ancient Rome).
Lorenzo Braccesi (Professor of Greek History at the University of Venice, Italy, in 1986) tells us:
- "Olympias was originally from Epirus, on the part of the father who was king of Epirus, on the part of the mother also and that Illyrian blood 🇦🇱 circulated in the family, there is no doubt. "

That the Epirotes are or are not Illyrians is a discussion that, from an archaeological point of view, is resolved.
The Epirotes and the Illyrians have the same culture, if we consider the Iron Age, the use of tombs, fortifications with several rows of walls, their material culture, the shape of the pots or the ornaments which are identical to those of Korça (current Albania) and religion.
Not only ancient authors like Thucydides, Strabo and others have called the Epirotic tribes barbarians (non-Greek) but also later serious publications based on documents and archaeological findings point out the same thing.
The Molosses, were one of the Illyrian tribes of Epirus from where came the mother of Alexander the Great Olympias daughter of the king and the sister .

With Bucephalus, he didn’t manhandle the horse into submission like was described in this video. He recognized the horse was afraid of his shadow and made him face the sun and calmed him down for 10 or so minutes before jumping on.

A true hero
Alexander poses a challenge to those of us living comfortably in the 21st century. Should we see him a great hero who overcame the many obstacles thrown his way? Or, perhaps, should we view him as a tyrant willing to sacrifice thousands of lives for his own glory? Either way, Alexander is arguably one of the most fascinating men to have ever lived.

He's like many powerful historical figures. Ambitious, charismatic, lethal and ultimately flawed. If you have ancestors or identify with the people he torched or sold into slavery, your opinion of him, may lean towards or be full scale tyrant. If you don't or just see him as a product of his time. Your opinion may lean towards legendary status.

Some say that he should be called Alexander the conqueror instead of Great. Many men were conquerors. Caesar, Genghis Khan, Suleiman, Napoleon. Alexander was Great. He didn't name himself great like Napoleon or some little known Prussian and Russian rulers. History gave him that name.
Plus the word great means much more in Greek. Μέγας Αλέξανδρος meaning that no one can be greater, no one can achieve more. A king who could lay low and leave the battle to his army while spitting orders. Instead he fought in the first line, in phalanx or on his horse, the Greek way.Did so much in 33 years, most "conquerors" would need 1000 lifetimes.
Btw the Persians used Greek mercenaries all the time. The reason for that is that the Persian soldiers were ill trained and pretty ignorant of battle.
Imagine being a persian soldier, having heard stories about your ancestors trying to invade Greece and being slaughtered. Then you see 40.000 Greeks with 6 meters spears marching in perfect phalanx ready to take revenge. Poor guys must had been shitting their pants.

Keep in mind that the Greco-Roman Wars took place 200 years after his death and of course the phalanx tactic was obsolete at that point. The Macedonians lost the war because the rest of the Greeks joined the Romans as well. The Greek world was in serious decline at that point.

The Battle of Hidaspus, in which Alexander faught against King Puru(Porus) is a significant milestone in Indian History. When Puru was defeated and imprisoned after fighting valiantly, Alexander asked him how should he, the new slave be treated by the great emperor. Puru replied, like how one king should treat another king. This fearless reply impressed Alexander so much that he fred Puru and gave back his land.

@@fredbarker9201 It's possible, anything would be possible with those two but it wouldn't be that simple. I think a lot would depend on the quality of the troops, at which point in their respective careers they would be, since both armies were essentially professional and not conscripts, the terrain and other less obvious factors as well.

Postmortem now they try to change their identity and to make them North Macedonians. They tried to do same by stealing Alexander the Great.

I'm going to learn as much as I can about Aristotle and Socrates, specifically their teachings and how they taught Alexander the great. So I can teach my kids the same way.
there are no writings for socrates, all we know about him is from plato and other sophists and philosophers. we know he existed and that he was executed. for aristotle you can read politics, however he was a private teacher for him so most likely the things he said and taught him were in the span of the moment unless he wrote it down. but most likely he didn't because most of what we know about alexander himself is written after he died so it can be a bit askew. good luck.

Small correction. Pella, was the capitol of ancient Macedonia, "Greece" was a collection of city states each with its own government. Even after Philip subdued Greece, he was simply acknowledged as the Hegemon, not king, of Greece.

That isn't what Andrew said. He said that the city-states maintained a degree of autonomy with the king of Macedon as the head of the alliance holding them together.
There was no mention of Alexander's heritage.
I don't even think there was such a concept as Greece back then. They were naming themselves as Athenians, Spartans etc.
And the kingdom of Macedon was a different thing, which is shown by the ancient texts of how the city-states saw the Macedonian kingdom as a threat to them.

I've always had a passion for history so as a career choice attended University to become a history teacher. I wanted to teach my younger students the love that I had & enjoy it.
