I was on TikTok and saw Edward McCain’s official page. I saw a video of his daughter being embarrassed because the teacher played his music video in class. And now I am here watching this video again. I regret nothing.
Day of my Love's memorial service. I couldn't cry.,. I pulled in my driveway and this came on I blasted it and just wailed 😭It's been a comfort song ever since. It's his birthday today and I post this every year.
Even if no one sees this, I would just like to get it out there... This song changed my life. I used to have really bad self confidence and even worse social anxiety. My dad showed me this song one night and had me sing it to him and practice it... this song really works well for my alto voice, and I caught on. A couple years later, I worked up enough bravery to stand up on a stage with all of my extended family in front of me and sing this. That may sound like a tiny task to some, but it was a giant step for me. I trembled at the beginning, but slowly gained confidence and completed the song. It was an overwhelmingly sublime feeling. And now, years after that, I am recording my songs and singing in public chats and working up my strength to sing for strangers in person and, hopefully soon, post covers on UA-cam. None of these aspirations would ever be possible without this masterpiece. Thank you, Edwin McCain!!
Going through pretty much the same thing. Don't really have much self confidence if any type of confidence, social anxiety sucks ass because i don't talk to many people especially women. Slowly starting to get better and not think so negatively about everything and myself, just taking things 1 step at a time, peace and love. ✌ ❤
This was my wedding song. Me and my husband have been together since I was 16 and am now 40. We got married 21 years ago and this song still makes me cry and laugh and smile every time I hear it. I am the greatest fan of his life.
Us too! Congrats on 21 years! My wife and I have been married for coming up on three years but before we were even engaged I told her that I'm going to sing this song to her at our wedding. She was adamantly against the idea. While we were dancing our first dance to this song I was quietly singing it to her in her ear. It's one of my favorite moments in life as well as top three I told you so's. This song encapsulates so much of what I feel for my wife and it makes me happy that someone else feels that way about their other, too.
Congratulations to all of you. Unfortunately, I'm on the opposite side. This song kills me. After 19 years together, my ex-wife decided I wasn't any of the things that these lyrics represent apparently. I wasn't perfect. Nobody is. She had a lot of people in her ear, and she listened. She sucked me back in a year later, but I just felt so betrayed and she tried to turn my children against me. I haven't loved anyone since. I believe you only get one chance, and mine has been used.
@@jeffpodrug8942Try to get back on the horse when you're ready. Don't let her win. Find someone else out of spite if you have to. Doing well in life and happiness is the ultimate revenge. Also, don't listen to me 'cause I'm a bitter old man. 😂
Just saw where you showed up for a women and her girls during her veteran husband’s funeral. Thank you for being there for them. Your generosity brought tears to my eyes.
I just saw that too and looked him up. I always loved this song. In not great on who sings what. What he did for that family was amazing. Started crying as I listened

His pen was on god level writing this. I loved this song as a kid, but as an adult writer, I’m in awe all over again at the way his words just pull the tears out of me. Great work Mr Mccain

all chicks are crazy and a lot to put up with. but he's a real man and not a deadbeat, so he's been loyal as he should be, and obviously it's worth it for him, he married you for a reason... people forget that the vows explicitly say through the good and the bad, the ups and downs. it should be expected not surprising that you're still together. if you want to show your thanks, that's easy, just be nice, lose a few pounds if applicable (over 140-150lbs and under 5'8" it's applicable), and flirt with him like you really want it. boom, done.

hands down, when it comes to love and romance, this tops the cake. It is absolutely virtuous.... through the harmony, it gives so much hope of something beyond what we think we are are capable of
Popular music of today will NEVER rank above the songs we had in the 90's. The shear emotion of life from those times presented in song.... Music has been trying to find that same feeling ever since we left that decade.
To be born in '70, to have teenaged into the 80's and young in the 90's. Couldn't have asked for a better time. The music in these generations was Absoluty beautiful music. Blessed and grateful. Big thanks to the parental units. Lol
The people who dislike this song have never experienced true love. Once you experienced true love every word in this song relates to the the love you have felt
@@Walkingadversity How sad. I would wish that everyone could experience that kind of love. That you talk about being "older" and a "greatest fan". Even if you feel like it's a one way deal, to feel that way about someone or to have someone feel that way about you... it' wonderful.
I’ve listened to this song on repeat for easily two decades. The musical composition is spectacular; strong vocals, guitar, light drums, and strings. Those crescendos. Wow! That saxophone. Just perfection!!

I just remembered this song cause I saw Edwin’s TikTok’s with his kids being embarrassed by their teachers playing it. Hahaha great song putting his kids through college
Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray absolutely stole the show in "A Cinderella Story." Hilary Duff also looked like a real life princess in the white dress she wore for the dance. In addition; Chad Michael Murray made dozens of teenage girls swoon even more than he did in "One Tree Hill."
(Young Love - It can be done). I was 16 and she was 18. My son was born when I was 17 and she was 19. We were not given a chance to make it. Married in 1999 at 18 and 20. Couple years later I hear this song for the first time and I played it for her all the time! I’m her greatest fan! Always have been and always will be. Now it’s 2020 and we are quarantined. Well guess what? She’s sitting right behind me. We have 3 beautiful kids, defied the odds that were stacked against us! We both have very successful careers and live on a golf course and every night we finish the day with an “I Love You”. Young love... it can be done!! Ashley, I’m your greatest fan!
Thank you for your extreme act of kindness for showing up and singing and helping with the veteran's funeral. You went above and beyond for your fan. I heard about this on Chicks on the Right this morning and now you have yet another fan. I really like your music. You are a good man!
Thank you for your kind and heartfelt message, your words are deeply appreciated and I'm grateful for the love ❤️ and support you've show me where're you supporting me from ?
My grandma came to me on a dream with this song. Now when I listen I hear her say these wonderful things and gives me strength to continue on in gratitude for life I once wanted to escape.
@@cmbmaxeffort7528 yo, I'm 15, I absolutely, LOOOOVVEE THIS SONG!! It means a lot to me too. 1 year ago me and this girl fell in love but didn't work out bc our parents didn't want us to have a relationship at a young age. (the thing is, we've liked each other for years. At least I have for 4 years, her probably 3.) We were still friends though, then 5 months ago she said she wanted to try again. I was all for it bc I still loved her. We started talking again, after a month. she got over whelmed, said it was to much and that she couldn't keep a secret from her parents anymore. So wee stopped talking again, but we're still friends. I'm afraid there's not much hope for a real relationship in the future. We might have fucked the pooch hard, Or it was just a young love, that we didn't get to enjoy. Ether way, the moments with her were some of the best moments I've ever had.
I still come back to this after i dont know how many years Fell asleep listening to it hundreds of times and still will 🥰 You guys rocked it, and that voice!!
I remembered singing this song to the top of my lungs 🫁 when I was 18 word for word. Another reason to love the 90s. Still gives me goosebumps in 2021.
Wow, WHAT A SONG this was when it came out in 1997 and how amazing and nostalgic it remains in 2022. Every single thing about this song is pure perfection!
Heard this back in 98 on the radio and loved this song as a 10 year old kid and still listen to it 25 years later on and crank it whenever it comes on!!!!! Hopefully one day I can play this for a girl and tell her I'm the greatest fan of her life. :)
When I was a baby, my mom used to rock me to sleep, singing this song. Even though it was at least 18 years ago, I still remember it like it was yesterday. This song really makes me think of her.
This is my wife and I wedding song. Almost 12yrs going stronger than ever. God we have been through some HARD moments in those 12yrs. This song brings a smile to my face everytime imagining her in that wedding dress
Heard this song playing @ the local super market the other Day and it brought me to tears of joy silently. My goodness I hadn't heard it in years and wow it brought me back in time ⌚ Hallelujah 🙌🏽. Such a great song and the whole MTV era etc Wow!
Yes. I sang this on the NYC train with a subway performer. Will always be my #1 NY soft rock song. Survived this shit through 9/11 and wanted to fight in the war but had to finish elementary school in Canada so I couldn't go.
This song still gives me goosebumps 22 years later! It takes me back to a simpler time before social media when we would call friends, talk, and actually meet up. I miss those days…
This song was actually released in '98...(unfortunately the internet had already existed & the world first slowly buying cell phones) My simpler time was the 80's as a teen/early 20's THAT was the sh*t 🤟😁
@@yousee66 HELL YEAH !!! These days when I mention MACARENA, people who weren't around til late 90's early 2000 look at me like " no thanks I'm lactose intolerant!!" I reply to them " MACARENA...NOT MACARONI!!😂😂😂😂😂
I was shopping for groceries and this came on the radio. Found myself whistling the song. "How do I remember this so clearly?" I thought to myself. I'm looking at the lyrics now; it seems as if beautiful song writing is a lost art.
This song has a special meaning for me, and I listen to it regularly. I met an amazing man when we were in high school 35 years ago, but we lost touch after he graduated, as he was older and has the prettiest eyes I've ever seen. We've both gone through a lot since then. He lost his wife to cancer, and I was lost a baby before my marriage became abusive. We've since reconnected, have been together for awhile, and I would do anything for him! ♥
This song is absolutely timeless and beautiful. I saw Edwin live earlier this year, and it was one of the best shows I’ve been to. My 18 year old self belted this song out right along with him. 💜
Thank you for your kind and heartfelt message, your words are deeply appreciated and I'm grateful for the love ❤️ and support you've show me where're you supporting me from ?
I've loved this song since I was little and always told myself this would be my first dance song at my wedding. This past June I got married to my biggest fan and danced to this song. Sometimes life comes full circle.
I fell in love with this song when I was little also watching a Cinderella Story and now it is ALSO our first dance song too!!!! Married this November!
this song brings back memories of my depression a few years ago. my best friend sang this to me when i was in the psychiatric hospital. it turned my life round and she is still my best friend.
Christine Hope I am so happy that you're ok. Remember God loves you and he got you. Sometimes God speaks to you in the most unexpected ways. He spoke to you through the words of this song. P.S that best friend sounds like a keeper
One of those song that give such a warm fuzzy feeling and evoking tonnes of memories! The lyrics simply begin to make sense that now I'm a full-grown adult and learning about life. Oldies from the '90s are so compelling - the musicality was just otherworldly
The strands in your eyes That color them wonderful Stop me and steal my breath And emeralds from mountains Thrust towards the sky Never revealing their depth And tell me that we belong together Dress it up with the trappings of love I'll be captivated; I'll hang from your lips Instead of the gallows of heartache That hangs from above I'll be your crying shoulder I'll be love's suicide I'll be better when I'm older I'll be the greatest fan of your life Rain falls angry on the tin roof As we lie awake in my bed And you're my survival You're my living proof My love is alive and not dead And tell me that we belong together Dress it up with the trappings of love I'll be captivated; I'll hang from your lips Instead of the gallows of heartache That hangs from above I'll be your crying shoulder I'll be love's suicide I'll be better when I'm older I'll be the greatest fan of your life And I've dropped out, I've burned up I fought my way back from the dead Tuned in, turned on Remembered the thing that you said I'll be your crying shoulder I'll be love's suicide I'll be better when I'm older I'll be the greatest fan of your life The greatest fan of your life
Miss this kind of music. When all you wanted to do is just lie down, listen to the sound of the rain with this song in the background and unending imagination of what ifs and what could have been . Oh life...
Edwin McCain put his whole soul into this song. I just listened to it and two tears rolled down and fell off my face on to my shirt, one solitary tear from each eye, in perfect unison. Not only do I never cry but tears never rolled perfectly and simultaneously down my face and then fell off my face at the exact same time. I wonder who he was writing about when he wrote this song.
I can still remember the first time I heard this song on the radio while shopping. It made me stop everything that I was doing and just stand there. I had only really listened to music from my own community up to that point. It was this song that made me turn the radio dial to appreciate other cultural music. Absolutely beautiful song. I was missing out great music ! I love coming back to hear this song just to be reminded of all the emotions this song triggered in that moment!
I know this song by a dream my Nana came to me with. "You're my living proof my love is alive and not dead." "I'll be your crying shoulder" "Tell me we belong together" I was getting off drugs seeking guidance. Now I know that god I was praying to is a lie.
I lost my son six years ago. His mom danced with him at his high school senior led out dance to this song in 2000. I will always love this song and Edward!
My twin sister and I saw this guy five days ago at a 3-act concert at an amphitheater. I forgot that he sang this song until my sister sang the main chorus for me and I was in shock. This song was one of my favorites growing up. Edwin McCain was the opening act for the concert. Of course, this song was his closer. The other two acts were Collective Soul and Hootie and the Blowfish, and Darius Rucker from Hootie had Edwin come out on stage later to sing a duet with him; apparently, these two men have known each other for 30+ years. It was an amazing show.
I just watched him last night in Thunder Valley Resort with JEWEL. I gotta say; He nailed this song! And he could still hit the high notes, impressive!!! 👏👏👏

hands down, when it comes to love and romance, this tops the cake. It is absolutely virtuous.... through the harmony, it gives so much hope of something beyond what we think we are are capable of
i remember hearing this song on “a cinderella story” when i was little, it made me feel something then so here i am now.

Same, one of the many songs that form my teenage years
Popular music of today will NEVER rank above the songs we had in the 90's. The shear emotion of life from those times presented in song.... Music has been trying to find that same feeling ever since we left that decade.
That's cause back then we had real problems...kids today biggest issues are masks and gender...how times have changed.
No one will ever have a voice more perfect to perform this masterpiece.
If I ever decide to marry, this will be the song. I've had it planned since I was young. It's just perfect
Me too
Haven't you heard wonderful tonight?

you and the rest of the comment section.........
have you gotten married?
To be born in '70, to have teenaged into the 80's and young in the 90's. Couldn't have asked for a better time. The music in these generations was Absoluty beautiful music. Blessed and grateful. Big thanks to the parental units. Lol
Programmed 20 years earlier you might be sent to Nam lol 😂😂😂
Best times of music!
I'm born 83...even early 2000's was great. It all turned to sh1t when social media came into everyone's lives.

Now we got Migos, Cardi and Lizzo. Just not fair.
It’s crazy how 25 years ago can feel like yesterday. Such is the magic of music.
And for prayers for all those looking for this kind of love 💕
Amen
I have this kind of love still after 26yrs
Been looking all my life for a girl like that.
I am also looking for a girl like that
Beautiful song. Nowadays they don't make them like they used to...
Thier are no correct words to describe this masterpiece. Beautiful just beautiful!
The people who dislike this song have never experienced true love. Once you experienced true love every word in this song relates to the the love you have felt
Truth
k cool.
Never experienced that, but still a great tune regardless
Facts!
@@Walkingadversity How sad. I would wish that everyone could experience that kind of love. That you talk about being "older" and a "greatest fan". Even if you feel like it's a one way deal, to feel that way about someone or to have someone feel that way about you... it' wonderful.
Never get tired of that voice
I’ve listened to this song on repeat for easily two decades. The musical composition is spectacular; strong vocals, guitar, light drums, and strings. Those crescendos. Wow! That saxophone.
Just perfection!!

The strands in your eyes that color them wonderful
Stop me and steal my breath
Emeralds from mountains and thrust towards the sky
Never revealing their depth
Tell me that we belong together
Dress it up with the trappings of love
I'll be captivated, I'll hang from your lips
Instead of the gallows of heartache that hang from above
I'll be your cryin' shoulder
I'll be love suicide
I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of your life
And rain falls angry on the tin roof
As we lie awake in my bed
You're my survival, you're my living proof
My love is alive and not dead
Tell me that we belong together
Dress it up with the trappings of love

I'll be love suicide
I'll be better when I'm older
I'll be the greatest fan of your life
And I've dropped out, burned up, fought my way back from the dead

Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray absolutely stole the show in "A Cinderella Story." Hilary Duff also looked like a real life princess in the white dress she wore for the dance. In addition; Chad Michael Murray made dozens of teenage girls swoon even more than he did in "One Tree Hill."

Probably one of the most beautifully written and performed songs. Haven't heard a cover of this tune and don't think I ever need to.

And so we're the 80s imo.

I still come back to this after i dont know how many years
Fell asleep listening to it hundreds of times and still will 🥰
You guys rocked it, and that voice!!

Edwin McCain was the opening act for the concert. Of course, this song was his closer.
