First of all, the destruction of Alderaan was Tarkin mistake not Palpatine. Plus Palpatine won't allow anyone from the low levels of Coruscant to reach the surface of the planet. Plus the Imperial Royal Guard and and Coruscant Guard and Police along with Billions of Stormtroopers keep Palpatine safe. Plus, Palpatine enjoying the assassination attempts on his life and give him some fun to torment the rebels.
Palpatine even said to Vader that with Senate's dissolution followed by Death Star's destruction put the Empire on the precipice. Anyway Palpatine was incredibly reclusive since he spend most of his time meditating in the Sith Temple under his palace while the Empire was ruled by the council and Tarkin. By the way the First Order had a good idea when they've put their capital on Supremacy. They just had a bad idea of dragging it into battle where it could be damaged.
@@randalcook325 Darth Vader comic, 1st issue from 2015. Palpatine speaks about how now they don't have the Senate to hold the order and the Death Star to force it and that coupled with other issues, they're besieged and never skirted closer to a disaster.
I think he would have taken the Charlamange route and had a lot of smaller imperial palaces he traveled to all over the empire to help administer it and keep the idea that he was in touch with his people following the issues with the core mid rim and outer rim. The death star would have been a center piece for this. A fortified island in the stars that can move around with his central government and court to reside with him.
Honestly, Palpatine was exactly the kind of paranoid turd who WOULD do something completely crazy like that! No wonder so many people wanted a big ole "Sheev Reprieve"
Finally, a good in-universe's explanation why the Empire still wanted to build another Death Star after the destruction of the first one! But that doesn't mean I'm totally agreeing with the idea of building because to me, it's still a huge waste of resources and manpower. In my opinion, what Palpatine should do is to simply create his own personal fleet of starships equipped with a lot of weapons and provisions, and live the life of a nomadic ruler like how those Mongol and Turkic khans did. And yes, what I said has happened before. After the Mongols conquered Iran, Hulegu Khan, his family and their entourage still lived the nomadic lives by travelling around the Ilkhanate despite that Maragheh is proclaimed as the Ilkhanate's capital.
@jeambeam3173 correct, Palpatine built the first death star because he sensed the threat of the Vong. He knew he would need a superweapon to help fight this invasion. What he should have done is announce this Death Star to the Senate and tell them the galaxy was being threatened by an alien race known as the Yuzzen Vong. He could have simply said that he sent ships all across the New Empire in search of New worlds and any possible threats from outside their known galaxy. They could have easily had some doctored messages from deep space in what they knew as the wilds of space speaking about being attacked by some unknown living ships. The Emperor justifies the cost of the project to protect the people.
Another great video, with comprehensive and enjoyable lore content. However I think we made it to nearly a full "end of the week" with so many "at the end of the day(s)" this time lol. Still an enjoyable watch throughout :)
I believe that esotarically it was more beneficial for Palpatine to stay on Coruscant the more that general resentment and sentiments of rebellion festered within the populace... he could feed off that negative emotional energy to amplify his connection to the Dark Side of the Force.
That's awesome or i wonder what would happen if he secluded himself on a planet that was highly force sensitive and just bided his time training himself or looking for sith holocrons to gain knowledge if he knew of there existence and became a giant threat to everyone
How powerful was Abeloth and how much of a physical threat was she really to the galaxy itself and the millions of habitable planets in it in the Expanded Universe canon? It's not like she can decide to rip apart a solar system with her mind instantly right? At least I don't think she could.
Probably not as much as a threat as in legends as Disney's Luke is a complete moron and couldn't even get multiple jedi academys off the ground so there would be way less force users that Abeloth could mind control but tbh i don't remember if Abeloth could mind control only force users or anybody
The reason Palpatine wanted to flee Corascaunct was because of his paranoia. Dictators like Palpatine constantly fear assassination so he felt if his reign would last he needed to get off the Empire's capital as soon as possible
The one thing you guys are forgetting is that he is a literal sith lord. If someone tried to break into his palace to kill him he could force choke them or use lightning.
@thorpeaaron1110 the Emperor was not forced off Imperial Center. He simply wanted to be there when the rebellion died and when he could have Luke. The whole attack on Endor is complete BS anyway. So the rebels had to steal an Imperial Shuttle that only carries about 20 passengers and cargo max, then steal an Imperial Code to try and get through the shield. So if they had to do that, how did the rest of the scum rebels get down to Endor? Not to mention that The Emperor had placed an ENTIRE Legion of his best troops on the planet to protect the shield generator. According to Star Wars Imperial source Book, a Legion of troops amount to 14,000 troops. So where were they when Han attacked? Out picking flowers? They would have been ordered to protect the shield generator station at all costs. There is just no way the scum could have gotten anywhere near the station, and those damn ewoks, could have done nothing to Imperial troops. Lucas just had to end the story and thought they would be cute attacking stormtroopers. That's BS.

That’s a good rationale you have for the DS2. It’s the best I’ve ever heard…actually the ONLY one. Needing another to guarantee all the planets toed the line was likely very important, if for no other reason than the optics. SSD task forces could technically accomplish the same job, but building DS2 would be psychologically devastating to any system thinking of defying Palpatine. I’m not sure Coruscant was TOO dangerous - although it would always be a target for the Rebellion as well as the Jedi. But keeping an office on the DS2 would probably be his safest hangout. It would always be a target as well, but surrounded by a swarm of ISDs and Interdictors, it would be safer even than Byss. Plus it’s still fairly mobile. He could even have a hangar or ten large enough for an Executor class if he still wanted one for a quick getaway (like the one buried in his backyard on Coruscant) or for a visit to a planet across the galaxy to ‘remind’ them to pay taxes…for DS3&4&… And yeah, if the DS2 became fully operational, the Empire would prolly last as long as his supply of clones lasted. Even with the Millennium Falcon sized hole straight into the reactor section. And if he kept Luke and his pops from getting chummy.

The Holonet was now used exclusively for the Imperial Navy and Army. And don't forget, even when the scum rebels managed to blow up the Death Star, you still had over 25,000 Imperial Class Star Destroyers out there, that could just sit in space and turn a planes surface to slag, just like they did to Mandalore. The Empire also had many many other weapons at their disposal that could just turn planets to inhabitable places to live, like the torpedo spheres.
