Kalahuipua'a Historic Lava Tube and Fishponds Park - Hawaii

We had a free morning during our stay on the main island of #Hawaii, so we took a hike down the shoreline to the #kalakuipua'a Historic Park and Fishponds.
This park has some unique features to the #hawaiian island - natural made #lava tubes and fishponds.
These lava tubes formed while the island was created, lava would flow down towards the ocean. The outer layer would cool and harden, as the lava underneath would continue to flow, to create these tunnels some animals and early settlers would use as shelters.
The fishponds were used as a creative, and safer way to trap and raise fish, opposed to traveling out to the seas to find fish.
