    Love this channel. I personally work with ISF calibration and this feels like the only place where you can actually learn new things, tips and tricks on how to improve video calibration and get deeper information about some of the new improvements out there.
    Enjoying the new OLEDs for this year but I still think both ZD9 and DX900 crush the competition, especially when it comes to proper HDR.

      That's what happens when you get mesmerized by someone holding a magic remote and talking with their hands. You landed up in a hypnotic state from the beginning.

    I’ve still got this 2017 Oled she’s still holding up no burn in to date. I don’t feel the need to upgrade as the picture is perfect in my humble opinion.

    Thanks for the video. It answered some important questions for me.
    One question about the OLED light menu which was "repurposed for APL" according to your video. If this is so, what is the best way to hit a target light level (ex. 100nits for SDR and 540nits for LG's recommended setting for HDR), does this control still work to properly set luminance?

  • @michaelmcgehee5932

    Good video. Should the calibration be different for non hdr content, hdr simulation and actual hdr content? Some have reported that for hdr content you need to turn the contrast all the way to 100 and down with non hdr content. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Vincent, I have a question; what do you recommend to do with the Sharpness setting for all the different picture modes (SDR, HDR, HLG, DV)? I've heard Sharpness 10 is actually the correct value to use if you don't want to artificially sharpen the image but also not to desharpen/blur it, and that the latter would be the case when you set Sharpness below 10. Is this correct?

    Excellent video ,can you please tell me if you already test this tv with Apple TV 4K about the HDR and more important the dolby vision not many tvs have a dolby vision on the market but this one is one of them ,because iTunes is showing more and more dolby vision movies than HDR please share your opinion thank you...

    I don’t understand, why don’t any of these TVs including Dolby Vision TVs just come calibrated for the directors intent? Most modern Apple devices come calibrated for proper color, why can’t these TV companies do it too? Their basic job is to show movies and they can’t do it correctly. It’s like the TV manufacturers think their settings are better than the directors? Same goes for their useless high Hz made by a chip using morphed frames.

    • @forager1620
      @forager1620 6 років тому

      Because the calibration depends on the specific environment you put it in i.e the room. Every person will have different calibrated results depending on the ambient light, and sometimes the height of the tv (viewing angles). So that's why you pay for a calibration to come to YOU.

    Thank for this video. I actually just picked up the b7 and the sony x900e and I'm trying to decide between them. Clearly the B7 has better contrast and black levels but I'm finding the sony has better color when watching mp4 movies on my pc. Especially older movies. I'm wondering if theres a way to get richer color out of the b7 because I'd rather keep it since the technology is clearly superior. The sony also appears to have better motion handling especially with the software image smoothing or soap opera effect. The sony makes it look very natural and with the b7 the motion looks unnatural and I was noticing artifacting around objects. Like for example watching stranger things a girl was skateboarding in the middle ground of the image and she had large blurry edges on the edges of her body.

    No doubt this TV has one of the best picture in 2017. I have a C7P now after going through various professional reviews like this one in this video. But I am now skeptical about the negative reviews such as reports on pixel-burn-in (permanent) and picture-retention (temporary). Is there a reason to worry? I still have the return window available before it is too late. Please suggest.

    Hey Vincent is there any way to save all settings including all sub menus etc as a user profile save in any of the up coming 2017 models??
    Why i ask is that i hate when i calibrate a TV to the way i like it then find out later someone has been fiddling around messing things up, drives me nuts having to remember what i did before. User settings PIN would be cool, please forward my feedbk to cheers.

    2 questions...how is the OLED TV connected to it's soundbar? HDMI still? Can you simply connect the TV to an A/V receiver? I ask because some reviewer said YOU MUST USE the soundbar. Which i think is an idiotic move if true.

    • @seanlacroix
      @seanlacroix 7 років тому +1

      apparently they are bringing hlg, technicolor and all the formats to the 2016 models. It's just a matter of when LG will get around to it.

    • @zudas
      @zudas 7 років тому +1

      Based on what I've read, the 2016 models will get HLG. No technicolor. This video is the first I've seen of a DV game mode. No mention of it coming to 2016 models. I've got a C6, and with the new Mass Effect being in DV (PC only platform confirmed so far) a game mode for DV on the old models would be really nice.

    • @hdtvtest
      @hdtvtest  7 років тому +3

      The room in which we filmed this was very dark. So we had to increase the exposure of our SDR camera to make the presenter visible, but in doing so the TV looked washed out. It wasn't like this in real life.

  • @petergriffin5256
    @petergriffin5256 7 років тому

    I think the active hdr feature works pretty good, why switching it off just to "preserving the artistic intend" if the picture looks better (no clipping highlight and preserving shadow details) with it enabled? I mean it simulates dolby vision, so it can make up for the boundarys the producers have to struggle with because of hdr 10's static metadata.

  • @Squishmallows24
    @Squishmallows24 5 років тому

    I have a 2016 oled and some movies in hdr look so dark and dim so I set dynamic contrast to low which helps brighten up the picture. The downside is that you lose color accuracy. Skin tones might look a little more pale.

      just download potplayer.daum.net/ this player. It uses the same 3D decoder as LG, so you get the same quality 3d playback from 3d Movies (from 3D blu-ray or 3d movie files, sbs or OU). Set 3D output to row inteleaved and use polerized pasive glasses, and the you get 3D on 2D screens. Then you can enjoy youre 3D BD arcive.
