  • What does a Crankshaft Position Sensor do? How to replace a crankshaft position sensor on an Audi TT Mk1.
My car recently started to stall when stationary and engine refused to start.
So I used an OBD2 reader to diagnose a P0322 fault with the car which is a faulty crankshaft position sensor.
so this is my guide identifying the causes of a bad crankshaft position sensor, the symptoms of a bad crankshaft position sensor and of course how to remove a cranckshaft position sensor and how to replace a crankshaft position sensor.

Had this done on my V6 several weeks ago and so far no more stalling so guess it fixed the problem. Interesting as always to see what it looks like, where it goes and more importantly, what it actually does. Thanks Andy.

Woderful and helpful video! I have the exact same simptoms in my tt. I've changed the coolant temperature sensor hoping that's the cause but today my tt just stoped working at a red light. It started after about 20 mins. I feel a fuel smell inside tho. I thinks it's this crankshaft sensor the problem. Thank you so much for this video!

Thank you for your kind words. Yes I try and represent as good a camera angle as possible as there is nothing worse that not being able to see what you need to see. Hopefully it helps many!

Hi Andy ! Very nice job, and well explained. I have done this job 2 years ago and, omg it was a pain !
Obviously, the access is tricky. Bolt ok, connector ok, but to extract the sensor … 😵
It turned on itself but, impossible to pull off.
In the end with a plier like yours ( don’t know the name in english ) and pulling hard, it came out 🥵
My symptomas was an hight iddle, and time to time the car stop when in taffic 😤
And restart was ok 10 mn after.

Thank you Rene! Yes pliers or mole grips to remove the sensor. I had very similar symptoms. It just stalled at a junction then refused to start. 5 mins later it started! I hope you car is working well now!

Well, the first part ordered from Amazon (hey, don’t judge me, free shipping!) was wrong. The part ordered by the guys at my local AutoZone was wrong, but I finally got the correct part installed today. I should say, my 21-year-old did it because he could get his hands in there. Definitely easier if you remove the oil filter! The car is running great now.

Hi Andy, great video! after watching this video i decided to tackle the job myself on my Mk1 TT, the connector was loose without any holding bracket and being heavy handed i managed to pull the connector off leaving the black brown and white wires exposed. the black wire is to pin number 1 but could you tell me which wires go to pins 2 & 3. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Andy, I've done some digging around and have found that the pin numbers to colour wires connecting the sensor are 1, 2 & 3 = black, brown & white.

Hi Andy, Very informative video as usual. I have an airbag control module warning light on and i have a mot next week. Do you have an idea on how to fix it? I have a Mk 1 A3 1.8T S spare car maybe they are the same? I have the same car as you silver BAM TT Roadster I need to join the mk 1 TT community for help lol. Any help would be appreciated. Going to upload some videos of my TT R when i get my phone fixed.

Hello sir! Thankyou for your comment. I think you can reset the airbag control module using Vagcom. Have you scanned the car with an OBD2 tool to see if it has an error? You may be able to just delete it.
Alternatively, I think you can remove the module if faulty and replace with a new one. I believe the part number is 8N8 909 601

How did you get the grips on the plug. I've been at it for 2 hours 🤬🤬🤬🤬

    • @andycharger
      @andycharger  3 місяці тому +2

Hi Paul. My mole grips have quite a small "head" on them so they fit into tight spaces. The best thing you can do is try and get a screwdriver or similar between the block and the sensor (maybe under the bolt hole fitting) and try prizing it off. Getting the new one in the hole is the real challenge. Use plenty of lube on the red O ring!
