I remember as a kid watching the beginning of this movie when it was on TV. The part where all the passengers except for that little girl got brutally killed really messed me up.
Yeah, for a bad movie that was a well done scene. Jeez 😣
I've always enjoyed this movie. the first scene was bad a**
Yeah. I remember back when I was in 2nd or 3rd Grade when all of the students and teachers watched Ghost Ship and witnessed the deaths of the passengers inside the ship by being sliced into halves like bread. The teachers decided to change it up afterwards.
I haven't seen the rest of the film ever since after that.
Same! I also saw this as a kid but I didn't watch it on TV though, I saw everything. I used to be terrified of this movie but the poster still creeps me out today as an adult
Thanks for reminding me 🥺
People only really talk about that openeing scene.
That's all I remember
So there is something Korey didn't research, those string of movies that came out were known as "vehicle films". They were made for tv actors and actresses. Not just start a film career. But also to tie into them in their shows. Like people go to the movies and be like hey I have seen that person in that show which would get them to go watch the tv show. Good example, Fantastic Four.... Juilen McMahan. He was on a show at the time Nip/Tuck. Needless to say, it was a huge failure. Because alot of the actors/actresses had already left their shows, or they were cancelled, or even worse they just weren't even that popular to boost anything.
I loved this, 13 ghost, and most of all the House on Haunted Hill remake growing up. They were all just fun.😂
This is a guilty pleasure movie for me cause I was a 2000s kid lol
I remember when I saw this in the theatre it was advertised with the trailer for Dreamcatcher being shown before the picture…another DT Bad Movie Roast film 😂
52:11 the black version of the Werner Scream 🤣
Hey Korey. That LA poster is giving me the Cats Don't Dance vibes.
pretty sure that ghost girl is Emily Browning...
It annoys me that it says “sometimes Billy” at that start of theses… he’s always here doing bad movie reviews
I remember watching this many years ago and being very confused throughout.
I saw this in the movie theater it was a good movie I don't know what these guys r talking about
How did the rats make it all the way out there in the middle of nowhere onto the ship? I'm assuming a luxury cruise ship would not have had rats on it when it left port.
Seems like the plot to that until dawn game sequel on the boat. Medan or something lol.
This movie wasn't that bad
This movie is like 13 Ghosts, few great scenes, great premise and sets but really bad pacing and overall story
Same director too
Yeah and both films have that very aggravating early 2000's editing style. At least Ghost ship lets you see stuff until like 13 ghosts where no image is on screen for more than a split second and there's a constant strobe effect.
And house on haunted hill
@@ACinemafanatic No wonder. Always thought the films have a lot of stylistic similarity.
Imma always love 13ghost tho😂😂
The opening scene is legitimately disturbing. I don’t even remember the rest of the movie.
I just made the same comment 👍
Just put on the movie to see what you're talking about! Holy schmoly, definitely forgot about that shi!
Goes to show; this movie was just an assembly line product like so many movies that have nothing special about them
@@PauloHernandezXD Besides the opening, which is genuinely very effective, the rest of the movie is dull and generic.
@@zacharylewis2802 that's usually how they get people; an interesting opening or an interesting trailer. After that, it insists upon itself lol
My exact thoughts were: “I remember the scene where the whole deck aside from the kid was killed. Not a damn thing else.” 😂
Same here lol
That goes triple for me
Yep me too lol.
Yessss 😂😂
That n maggot food
After 20 years I still remember that cable scene man it was brutal.
That scene probably spawned the whole Final Destination franchise. In fact there’s a similar scene near the end of FD where one of the characters is sliced by a barbed farm fence.
@WrvrUgoThrUR that's the 2nd movie where that happens
@@WrvrUgoThrUR The S.S. 180 if you will 😂
That scene haunted me for weeks! >_
@@WrvrUgoThrUR No. FD started in 2000. Ghost Ship was 2002
Billy's laughter is such a joy to listen to, especially in the morning
It’s very forced and annoying
@@OGMillyMillz_how do you know?
@@oscarfc1993 listen to it
Agreed. It was kinda endearing at first, but now, it's just SUPER-annoying. @@OGMillyMillz_
@@OGMillyMillz_THANK YOU!! Everybody is always lauding it and im just thinkin no one laughs like that.
It's impressive how a movie can only be remembered for it's first 5 minutes and nothing else

He definitely fell for that ol' "ghost babe" trick.💀
Literally.😂
Wonder how the ghost played that one off.
Francesca:so what's my job?
Ghost:you strip and lure the black
Guy to his death.
Francesca:oh ok?😈
You fool, you fell for one of the classic blunders.😂
😂😂😂😂😂
The scene where everyone got sliced by a string inside the cruise ship is _Final Destination_ level of brutal right there, let alone the captain had it worse with his head got apple sliced and the little girl's life had never been the same ever since that incident.
This movie made me never want to go on a cruise 😂 and nevermind titanic. Hell no. I don't even want to be a pirate and sail for gold.
@@jennaywilliams1024 The little girls name is Emily Browning and she is now 35 years old. 🙋♀🚢🎂🎥
@@SuperMarioBrosIII ok
That explains why everyone looked like they were made out of Jello and toothpicks 😅
Apple 🍎 sliced 😂😂😂😂😂
I always thought of this as thirteen ghosts but on a ship, same vibes 😂
Well both movies were created under Dark Castle Entertainment, so it makes sense that they have the same vibes lol
@@JaMadatMe ahhh so that’s why, there are other movies that have the same vibes too, like house on haunted hill, I think dark castle did that one as well
@@dncewzrd Yup, Dark Castle did House On Haunted Hill as well
I only watched that movie as a kid to see the ghost tiddies… 😂🙃
The opening kill with the ship line through the crowd was the highlight of the movie. That, and the lounge singer. The atmosphere was great.
Agree
totally agree that was my favorite part
👍
The intro to the movie was memorable, idea behind the main plot of the ship collecting souls was okay, but the rest was a silly a$$ 2000’s horror trope fest lol.

I just made it to the part of the video of Isaiah Washington’s character death. How the stupidity just ramped up reminded me of “Cabin In The Woods.” It’s like the stupidity gas was turned on and all the dumb decisions started after he said something smart.
Yeah except cabin in the wood was doing as a joke ghost ship on the other hand takes itself to serousily
Omg that cabin in the woods motorcycle jump got me cracking up to this day 😭
The twist actually is simple. "In Greek mythology, Charon is the ferryman who transports the dead across the river Acheron." to the underworld. Payment was required to cross; souls who were unable to pay risked wandering along the shores of the river for a hundred years." in this movie they've taken the concept of the ferryman and twisted it. He's a demon; he's been cursed or task with Gathering Souls through the way of Temptation and Corruption and tricking them into falling into sin and trapping them to Ferry them to hell. A job given to him through a life time of sin as punishment for his own crimes he committed when he was human. But innocent souls like katie can't be controlled or marked. over the years he has tricked people into coming to this ship and corrupting them through "greed" in order to collect their souls. The twist is very simple to understand. The gold is what carries the curse and where ever the gold goes. He goes.
“WELL, SHIT: THERE GOES MY TROUSERS!
WELL, THAT’S PECULIAR!”
I actually liked this flick. A good mix of "Flying Dutchman" with some deal with the devil thrown in there. The mark they all recieved, the gold as a lure for souls, Good creepy lore for a single flick.
I remember seeing this movie alongside Thirteen Ghosts on AMC every Halloween. You guys should do a movie review on Thirteen Ghosts
Loved that one too
Man falls to his death
Kory Billy and Martin: BWaAaAhHahahahhahah
I swear I watched this movie like 4-5 times on SciFy back in the day. All I remember is the opening and dumb ass ending.
So many plot holes and poor planning.
The movie makes no sense.
That’s exactly where it was when I first came across it but I never actually watched it through
wow 5 times? i couldnt even finish this movie when i rented it from blockbuster back in the day
@@nikhernandez8435 like.. I finished it.. Yet I never remember finishing it. Same like Korey and Martin.

@DoubleToasted, Solid Bad Movie review. Ghost Ship was one of my favorite movies growing up. I was a kid laughing my tail off with this. Great job.
I was wondering could yall do a review on "Killer Klowns from Outer Space" next?
35:19 “Maggots, Michael. How are those maggots?”
Can You review Rob Schneider's "Animal" please it was quite a hilarious bad movie.
You can do eet, Korey!
The ending was obviously a tease at a sequel that never happened.
I show up for the bad movie roasts, mainly to hear Billy laugh, that guy cracks me up
"Jack" Ferriman traps covetous souls with greed for the gold. He even marks (watch when he touches Francescas hand) certain people to assist him. The whole plot revolves around him luring the salvage crew. Does anyone really watch movies?
Korey : your know what's missing??? Some water.
That really got me 😂😂😂
Ghost Ship is pretty rubbish, but it did have a cool concept. You’ve got a demonic entity, disguising itself as a human, which is attempting to corrupt and lay claim to souls on a massive scale. Movie should’ve gone full tilt, where, at some point, this being didn’t even try to look human anymore. Then it could’ve been a unique type of creature feature. Where folks are trapped on a long abandoned cruise ship with a demon that, more or less, has complete control of said ship. Then again, that may have been too similar to Virus (1999), which bombed.
Ghost Ship is a cross between Deep Rising (minus the tentacles) and Event Horizon.
19:12 Yep. He's right. They had strong female leads wayyyy back then before men started saying its woke😂
I remember this being on the Sci-Fi channel (no not no damn Syfy lol). It was one of the Saturday night 9pm special movies they’d do. I remember this, 13 Ghosts and Abominable (a great Bigfoot movie)
This film is honestly a guilty pleasure for me despite all of it's flaws. Y'all are correct tho about it being a rip-off of The Shining, but it's still kinda disheartening to read about what they originally wanted to do with that concept, only for Joel Silver to come in & drastically altered it into the film we have here.
It was originally conceived as a psychological horror about four salvage crew members who turn against one another in greed and vitriol after being stranded in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean aboard the remains of a cruise ship (The Chimera) believed to have been lost in the 1960s. The literal idea behind it was to create The Shining (1980) on a boat.
In this script, Murphy was actually the killer and after the boat crashes into rocks and begins to sink, he attempts to leave with the gold and inadvertently kills himself while Epps makes it out alive with Katie's help. Much of the gore you see in the finished film was not in this script, but two additional crew members were also written into the story. This script was also a BIG reason why the cast signed on to star.
In a 2014 roundtable discussion, Julianna Margulies stated that once she got off the plane in Australia and was handed a totally different script, she was heartbroken; by then, though her & the other actors were contractually bound and could not back out unfortunately. She has completely disowned the finished film
the changed premise of the film isn't bad. It's just the execution isn't all that great and they still could have did something with this.
Man I actually mixed up this movie with Virus from 1999 with Jamie Lee Curtis.
I like that movie
IIRC there is a movie from the early 80's with George Kennedy that is very much like this one.
@@theartist8291 its pretty good if not abit flawed

I remember Isaiah Washington was like, "i represent the black community with the movies i make!"
Hebro please 😂
Nothing beats this opening scene. That stuck with me as a kid. I probably shouldn't have been watching that.
Frankly I don't mind movies like this. I'm a horror fan and 90s and 80s horror movies were frankly some of the most fun to watch, especially with groups.
Yes! A new Bad Movie Roast with Korey,Martin and Billy. Couldn't find the Judge Dredd roast. Yall should roast the 1993 movie Airborne with Shane McDermott and Seth Green
This movie was cheesy and dark at the same time the one that catch me off guard is when the line string attach to the ship killed everyone except the little girl
This one is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine. The opening scene always stuck with me. I also didn't mind the bat💩 music cues and the demon soul collector twist at the end.
Man y’all have to roast Ghost of Mars that released in 2001 also.
I was so excited to watch this when I was younger because I loved stories about ghost ships. vividly remember my mom telling me 'no, it looks like garbage.' At least I'll always have The Fog.
28:10 actually, bars of gold are easier to calculate than stacks of cash. Gold is measured in weight obviously, bars are a set volume, thus a set value-then basic math.
I said the exact same thing, of course salvagers are going to know the spot price of a troy ounce of gold, and gold bars are almost always stamped with their weight its just simple multiplication.
i used to work in a movie theater when this movie came out, the intro amazing, everything else i didn't even remember. Fun fact: our projectionist played the intro instead of a harry potter movie, he didn't even get fired for that.
From the Director of Thirteen Ghosts 2001 y'all
I kinda like forgettable 2000s movies be it hororr or comedy or teen films I find them comforting nowadays to watch.
This movie really wasn’t that bad…. The ending was a surprise.
All of my life of watching horror movies, I was never scared of any of the slasher villains, but that wire scene in ghost ship really scared me to stay far away from wires.
It's Event Horizon on a boat.
Crossed with Deep Rising (minus the giant squid).
I remember this movie in Deep Rising came out around the same time.
Deep Rising is way more entertaining.
Deep rising was in 98, ghost ship was in 03.
I Loved this movie when I was 18. Probably because of that first opening sequence.
2000s horror movies are perfect for Bad movie Roasts
54:50 To offer a slightly more detailed explanation, the guy who lured the crew onto the ship, Ferriman, he's actually what's called a Soul Collector, basically a damned man who is tasked with bringing souls down to Hell. He did this on the ship initially by tricking or corrupt several people to murder everyone, which in turn trapped them on the ship itself and he uses the gold as a way to lure more people in to load the ship up as much as possible when he sends it too Hell.
Souls that don't know sin or weren't tempted can't be marked. Aka katie.
@@slj3332 That more applies to how she isn't controlled, but she is still stuck.
I had this on DVD back in the day. Can't remember a single thing about it though 😅
One year later, Desmond Harrington is in Wrong Turn. A much better movie.
The early 2000’s had horror movies so forgettable that in the latter half of the decade it was just nothing but remakes.
i remember seeing this movie with my sister at the dollar movie back in the day. all i remember is the cable scene, and the fact that this was the first time i got bored and fell asleep at the theater.
In defense of the wire scene, your whole body is gonna be in shock, what did you expect them to do?.
I never thought that The 3 Body Problem and Ghost Ship would have something in common.
"I DIDN'T SAY IT'LL MAKE SENSE, I SAID ALL WOULD BE REVEALED." 😅😂
Please thirteen ghosts next!
Ghost Ship ain't too bad. It's a 7/10 for me
4 movies from the early two thousands, Ghost ship virus Deep rising and virus All happened on boats That was only 3 repeated myself. My apology
Really?! One of the worst?! This movie is much better than anyone thinks of it.
I'd agree. It's bad of course but much better than a lot of "horror" films that have come out since.
This movie is the sequel to that Panama Canal episode of 3 Body Problem.
I only know this movie from childhood because I caught the first 10 mins on TV late one night, turned it straight off and had a nightmare 🫠
lol the modern movies are woke with they’re poorly written “strong” women which makes for great comedy and content but nobody had a problem with the actual bad ass female characters like the one here and Sarah Connor and the rest of them
The only part of this movie I remember is the opening. That shit has haunted my dreams for years.
That woman in red is fine.
Sexy but evil 😈
You'd think with a pantry full of food, access to a kitchen, and fresh running water, that she'd have some time to figure out how the ship works and get SOMEWHERE. Oceans have coasts in all directions eventually.
If you’re referring to the little girl, the pirates or whatever they were, hanged her.
@@jaymanuel3396 How? They were all dead.
@@devinpaul9026 the people who set the trap to kill everyone, including posioning the food. She was running scared and witness one of the ships crew being murdered. She was then dragged into another room and hanged.
@@slj3332 Again, they were all dead. They literally ALL died for their greed and malice. If not, whoever DID survive would've had the same chance she did, probably even with better odds! His entire point in corrupting their souls is to make them suitable for harvesting.

I watched this while on my way to my first ship after Navy boot camp. I avoided working on the flight deck because of this and because the arresting gear cable snapped on the ship I was going to.
Billy’s laughter just made my day everyday. 😂 Even it’s a horror remake to make it enjoyable in making fun of it. Great job, gents.
Stop encouraging that annoying fake laugh.
Truth be told its not that hard to calculate how much a pile of gold bars would be worth, the price by the troy ounce would be known to a crew of salvagers and most bars are stamped with their weight.

Crazy enough the woman who played the lounge singer in the movie. was a lounge singer on the Costa ConCordia when it crashed in 2012
