[[reupload]] - Another video from my old channel - this short was put together almost ten years ago, demonstrating the conversation between Titanic and Carpathia. I know our accents are off. Don't care - we were high-schoolers.
    12:25 am, April 15.
The Titanic, not desperate yet, first establishes contact with the Carpathia via Marconi telegraph. No other ship, apart from the Mount Temple, is able to offer help. Getting in touch with the Carpathia gives Harold Bride and John Phillips hope that rescue is possible.
The Carpathia was the first on the scene after Titanic had sunk- too long after to save anyone in the water. This clip features the moment the rescue ship is reached.
On the left is the scene in the Titanic's wireless room. The right is the Carpathia.
This is using footage from my Titanic film "The Last Signals", which focuses on the two telegraph operators of the ship, Harold Bride and John Phillips.

What I love about this movie you made is the accuracy and timing of events as they unfolded that night. So incredibly well researched and more accurate than any of those big productions. Well done and thank you for bringing obscure acts of selfishness and courage into the limelight

I taught myself Morse code over the summer, and it was more simple than i expected. Still learning numbers, and symbols, but i have all the letters memorized. I made a model of the titanic, sawed it in half, and am currently trying to make it sink the right way, and i admit, its somewhat tricky to get the water to flood correctly, and not go too fast. The whole ship is like a honey comb, with all these corridors and rooms, and to recreate that shows the complexity of a ship sinking....

How is the Morse code going ? Have you tuned into any online Web SDR radios that tune short wave ??
You can hear lots of real Morse being sent between ham radio operators between 7.000 and 7.060Mhz and 14.000 and 14.070MHz. Some is pretty quick, but others are much slower.
I’m Ok at around 15 words per minute, but, if I get on the air regularly, I can go a little faster

There definitely would’ve been a higher death toll. The Carpathia arrived at the disaster scene hours before any other ship and the survivors were exhausted, crying, shivering, and hurting terribly when they were rescued. I really hope someday there will be a great movie focusing on how the Carpathia and her brave, caring, selfless, loving Captain, Crew, and Passengers did so much to save as many people as possible from the Titanic disaster.

Thoses were the techies of the days. What they were doing seemed confusing, incomprehensible to most other people, and was on the very edge of their time’s technology, so they are the tech nerds of 1912.
Lets not forget that the first message to cross the ocean in wireless was in 1901, and the first ship to have wireless was in 1899.

CQD was the distress signal amongst the Marconi operators.
CQ means any ship. CQD was distress. It was changes to SOS shortly before, but as Marconi had the majority of ships Radio leases, it still was using CWD
Later on you would key down for an extended period before sending SOS
I’m later years, they had an _electronic watch_ that would listen for an SOS and ring an alarm on board the boat.
My buddy, who was a ship board operator was woken many a time on a false alarm. That was last century when they still used 500KHz. All gone now, save KPH, a historical station and the strange costal station in South Korea who is still using code on HF, but not 500KHz

@@PartTimeExplorer just letting you know, that wasn’t real Morse code on that “recreation” . Just random stuff.
They had a regen receiver made with a tube (or two) as opposed to the cohera buzzing you heard, so they would have been using head phones.
Here on the GoogleTubes, search for Titanic MGY real or fake. There’s a very interesting video
That recording _is_ a real hand sent quenched spark Morse transmission. Is it the real deal ? Hard to tell, but it’s authentic enough, and whoever is sending has , what we would call, a good fist. It’s worth a watch.
