Re-uploading this from my old channel, where it had around 436,000 views to date. There's plenty about this movie I cringe at (we made it straight out of high school), but I promise I didn't George Lucas this and re-edit anything. Maybe I should have... I know the accents are bad, the sets are low-budget, and the acting is sub-par with myself and some others. Did you know that all of the officer crew cast were school teachers of mine that I recruited for the day? I think they did pretty well, and it was awesome that they were willing to help! But this is story that needs to be told, and that's why I'm keeping it up.
The Last Signals is the story of the sinking of the RMS Titanic from the perspective of its Marconi Telegraph Operators. Harold Bride, the Junior Operator, is the focus of the film. John Phillips is the Chief Operator.
This film was put together attempting to be the most historically accurate representation of the sinking of the Titanic. The sets were painstakingly made to represent the real Titanic's Marconi room using several sources- ship blueprints, photographic evidence, and first hand accounts. The story was pieced together and recreated to be exactly as the real story was- and in many places the scene unfolds pretty much word-for-word as it did on the real Titanic.
Over two years in the making, this film is only the shortened version of the feature film (which God willing will never see the light of day). The feature film depicts more scenes aboard the Titanic- specifically Father Frank Browne's photography (the only known photo of the room), the ice warnings (which were almost entirely cut from this version), and more information about their personal backgrounds. In addition to showing more of the Titanic story, it also depicts more aboard the Carpathia, and large segments of the story take place in New York City during the weeks of the US Senatorial Investigations, where not only do we see the world's reaction to the sinking, but we also see Harold Bride's recovery from the disaster.

This isn't the kind of thing I plan to regularly post on this channel, but since the other channel I had this on was demonetized, I needed to move it. It's especially relevant with the recent debates over whether or not to salvage Titanic's radios.

Honestly, I'm almost always in the pro-salvage camp. Up here, artifacts can be preserved and kept for history, down there, it'll rot, be eaten, or be covered by dust/dirt
i think it a good idea to salvage the radios you never know what type of secrets they have left on them
Ive never seen this so was curious if in the uncut version you show Jack and Harold fixing the radios earlier

and those last hours aboard the ship. I’m not sure about salvaging within the ship?. But the radio should be salvaged to be studied and preserved.
For a low budget movie you filmed entirely in your basement, this is pretty damn good, and I see nothing cringe about it, ive watched this many times over, very informative and entertaining. Be proud of it and keep it posted. Well done.
Actually the grand staircase scene and the Marconi room were filmed at the pigeon forge Tennessee titanic museum, famous for being a recreation of the ship and the only place in the world to have a replica grand staircase
@pointlesscasual608 theirs is a little different since it has railings but there is also Tutanic museums in Las Vegas and Orlando which also have replica grand staircases without railing but you're not able to walk around on it

I don't care what anybody else says, but this is a first-rate, top-notch movie. I hope the creator flourishes and prospers.
May not be an impressive movie quality as it's low budget, but it's still done with such passion and with much historical accuracy as possible. Your acting is still really good; better than some movies nowadays in my view. It's still a brilliantly done independent movie.

I watched plenty of independent, low-budget films, and they're not doing to bad, here. If viewers are enthralled, you've positively established your acting, abilities.

Harold Bride and Jack Phillips are true heroes. It's truly a shame they get overlooked so often. Some people blame Phillips for his rudeness, but if it wasn't for him it's almost a certainty that the Titanic would have had almost no survivors
I like that you've shown this in "real time". It demonstrates that every decision made may not be the right one because you don't have the advantage of hind sight. Once these young men knew what was happening though, they did everything they could to help save lives. You have shown us the heroes that they were, a well deserved recognition. Thank you.
The most striking thing about these two wireless operators is that they didn't work for White Star Line, they were independent contractors employeed by the Marconi Company. They could have easily walked away without a second thought but they DIDN'T.

Low budget does not have to mean low quality. I could see that a tremendous amount of care and effort went into making this. I could sense your compassion for the souls that were lost, and for the ones that lived on. Be proud of your work.
Cringe? I could hardly call it that! With what little resources you had, you turned out an engaging and exciting movie. True, the special effects aren't that impressive, but taking into consideration that you had no budget, you did really well with what you had.

As a Titanic enthusiast whose UA-cam picture happens to be a still shot of the brave band that played to the end that terrible night, I commend you. This is well worth the watch, and almost made me cry. Thank you for making this.

I have seen people in Shock aftet car accidents. They respond the way Phillips does as played by you. They keep working on the last rational data they got; "It won't sink. I just have to work hard enough." You played it brilliantly. I have a degree in theater. If you look at the CBS coverage of the Kennedy Assassination, you see a lot of "I'll reverse history with herculian effort." (Secret Service Agent Clint Hill literally walks up the back of JFK's limo.)
I'm actually crying. It's so heartbreaking to tell the story in every side, always.

This is very well made and the acting is incredible. There is obvious passion in every aspect of this video. I am blown away by the acting/the accuracy/the props/the Marconi room! I am finally seeing a reenactment of the friendship and experience of these two and that is something very special to me. They deserve a good telling of their story and they've got it, in this. I love how you made efforts to be so accurate and use real life accounts. I will tell you, I never wanted to stop watching this video. I never wanted it to be over. Thank you for making this. You've done more than you know.

I know I’m late to the party here but I have to say I loved this.
Naturally I’m a Titanic fanatic and have to watch absolutely anything I come across about it, having said that this particular perspective I’ve never seen given it’s due diligence before, and you proved it can be a short film solely on it’s own.
I think you did an incredible job and not just for an amateur film but in general..

I've watched many movies, from the silents, through the classics, to the modern day. I like this. I would like to see the whole thing. It holds my attention more than most modern films.
For what seems like a student film, I am very impressed. Great atmosphere and cinematography, decent historical accuracy, best possible costumes/effects and accents. Good job, “Old Man”.

Absolutely no need to apologize. Some awkwardness? Yes, but you give a very clear and telling account. It really hits one in the gut toward the end and is very moving. Well done. And just think what would have happened if Phillips and Bride hadn't gone against Marconi policy by repairing the equipment.

I'm very Impressive. I Always to see a representation of Jack Phillips in Titanic's movies, we don't really see him or Harold Bride. In James Cameron's movie, all their scenes were cut. We can see one, where Jack Phillips say "I'm not going". One Day I wish making a movie about Titanic. Congrulations for your job ! Hello from France.

While this movie has a much lower budget than James Cameron's Titanic, I think it is made up for in the sheer quality of the writing and the acting. Because their stories are real, they feel more part of the Titanic than the cheesy romance that was shoehorned.
The most relatable scene I’ve ever seen was Jack Philips trying to hear the faint dashes of Cape Race when the California blasted into his ear.
Happens nearly every time I have my Bluetooth headphones in and it’s extremely difficult not to take it out on the person calling.
I try to remember to stay cool, you never know when a situation like the one Jack Philips faces will occur (very rude messaging making the only operator nearby to go to bed and hear about the tragedy the next morning)

I'm so impressed with this, the passion and accuracy are so great, right down to the dialogue of then joking about it being their last chance to sending out an SOS signal. I know it's low budget but I felt so immersed in the horror of the situation unfolding, especially with Harold escaping on the collapsible boat. It's great to see a film so accurate and entertaining.
Now that i finally gave me the time to watch this as the video on the old channel had been on my "I will watch later list". And I am glad that I did.
I like how the movie is made a focus on being as authentic as you can within that budget. And I also like how it gives the angle of John Phillips working so hard properly because of the status of psychological shock.
This may have been a low budget piece, but this was VERY well done with the resources you had! The story was compelling, and the passion behind the project is oozing out of every second of footage!
Very impressive effort to capture the Titanic tragedy thru the experiences of the two wireless operators. The young actors give great portrayals that are compelling and realistic as to the beloved details that we know and marvel about. Kudos to the filmmakers for this exciting indie film. Love the fact it's in B&W.

Thankyou for all your hard work and taking the time to make this. Ever since I watched the movie years ago I became obsessed with the ship and it's people but the movies main focus was Rose and Jack. This made me want to know more about the passengers. Depicting these two was beautiful. You brought them back to life in this mini film. Honestly, it's thanks to those two the Carpathia was able to save what remained of the people on the titanic.
This is really good, love the black and white, the cinematography is spot on. You're both utterly gorgeous too. This wry grin is just divine 5:53. I had no idea there was a lady with them who they were tasked with looking after. How did she become concussed? And were they really attacked by a coal worker!? Also, great representation of the captain, his aloof, unemotional, shut-down repose is quite unnerving. Obviously he was a good bloke, but I wish he commanded more immediacy & gave more info, more lives could of been saved. 26:45 is a great reaction shot, gives me chills. Brilliant work! Side note: I've got no idea how the wireless guys slept with that little ding doing every second!

Well done! This is worth watching, I love studying history. It’s sad that not everyone knew that the two crew members who desperately tried to send the messages to the entire Atlantic Ocean to save as many as possible, only one ship came. They could’ve gotten on lifeboats earlier but they stayed to try save more people, it’s a huge sacrifice they dedicated. Huge respect to them, people should recognized them as heroes (there’s other heroes in the ship such as electricians who kept the lights on since it’s dark and it’s the phase of new moon, they volunteered to stay even though they knew they’ll never survive it). Rest in peace to everyone in the Titanic.
I've seen the complete Titanic Morse code correspondence video. These two men were the real heros. Bravo for your film.
I’m afraid I couldn’t bring myself to watch it to the end. I know Philips didn’t make it and I just find that so heartbreaking - along with all the engineers, electricians etc who went down with the ship. A fabulous peace of filming. And very necessary. Thank you so much and keep up the good work

This is an excellent independent film especially as someone mentioned you filmed it yourself? This is really good work that you did here. There are so many stories left out when titanic is spoken about and her Marconi operators is one of them, as is the Carpathia's story. They nearly blew their boilers and risked the same ice field to get there.

A very very well done film. It's not always the quality of acting etc..which IMO was great, but the story being told. Away from the chaos ensuing on deck, we are brought to the calmness of decision in the Wireless room, and engine rooms.
I loved it even though 1,500 people died during the sinking of the Titanic,so I am going to think of it as a tribute to those people whom died upon that fateful night.

you shouldn't be so self deprecating in your description. This was a very good film (more true to life and far fewer mistakes than a lot of Hollywood things). Stand by your work.
Btw - Phillips could send 35 words per minutes, but he actually slowed down to 15 that night because many other operators couldn't read 35. What a steady nerve that must have taken with your ship sinking beneath you (I can do 15 in a nice comfortable chair with absolutely no distractions like the floor sinking beneath me).
Brilliant, I’d watch this and ‘a night to remember’ over James Cameron’s Titanic any day.

I honestly enjoyed watching this film, I even thought this was more emotional than the actual Titanic movie. This film really shows the relationship between Jack and Harold. They were not only partners, they were best friends. You guys need to make a remake of A Night to Remember when you have a budget.

I loved this film and continued re-watching from time to time! You and the other actors are excellent compare to alot of Hollywood actors who overacts their roles.
My favorite part is where the photos of you as John and the other actor as Harold transitions into the real photos of the real guys themselves.
