ゲーム内容は、今までにない程テンポのよい、スピード感溢れるアクションゲームとなっている。 プレイヤーはダメージ制で、サイファーと呼ばれるソードを武器に、ジャンプ、スライディングなどを駆使して各ステージのボスを倒す。 アクロバティックなステージが多く、見ていてもとても楽しめる作品である。 全5ステージ。
ストーリー:
A.D2048年。全世界を舞台に暗躍する忍者集団がいた。 人々は彼らを「野に駆せる影」ストライダーと呼んだ・・・。 飛竜は、常人の能力をはるかに上回る力を持つストライダースの中でも頂点に立つ超Ａ級に位置する男。 サイファーとクライムシクルを手に、はるか天空に打ち上げられた人工都市「第３の月」に君臨する、 冥王グランドマスターを倒し、人類抹殺計画を阻止するのが彼の使命である。

Strider Hiryu is a multi-directional scrolling platform beat-em-up in which the player takes control of 'Strider Hiryu', a ninja-style warrior who must defeat a legendary being known as 'Grandmaster Meio'.
Set in a dystopian future in the year 2048, Meio has been watching Earth from his own distant galaxy and has created a space station (known as 'The Third Moon') between Earth and its moon in order to rule over the Human race.
Armed with a curved sword known as a 'Falchion', Strider must travel the globe to find and destroy Meio. Numerous power-ups can be obtained from metallic item boxes carried by certain enemies. These include an extension to Hiryu's attack range that lasts for one hundred slashes, two types of health aids (represented by the kanji used to write Hiryu's name), a max health extension, an extra life and a power-up that not only makes Hiryu invulnerable to attack, but also increases his own attack abilities via shadow images of himself for 30 seconds.
Hiryu can also summon robotic companions known collectively as "options" that help him fight enemies. These consist of up to two mushroom-like droids, a saber-toothed tiger and a hawk. These are referred to as Options A, B and C respectively.
Strider Hiryu is highly agile and has the ability to latch onto walls and ceilings using a metallic hook; a concept which set the game apart from other platformers and allowed for highly inventive level design.
The game consists of five stages:
* Kazakh Soviet Sot Republic (called "St. Petersburgh" during the arcade game's attract sequence),
* Siberian Wilderness
* Aerial Battleship Ballog
* Amazonian Jungle
* The Third Moon.
Each stage is divided into a number of smaller sections, with each section imposing its own time limit. Strider initially has a three-point health gauge (which can be increased to five points with health extension power-ups) and will lose a life when the health gauge is fully depleted. Lives are also lost by either falling into a bottomless pit, or failing to complete a section within the time limit.
The game ends once all lives are lost, but continues are available.

主人公の強さにここまで酔える超絶アクションは、飛竜の後にも先にも無いな。
メカ怪獣の脚部シリンダー、脚の動きに合わせて伸び縮み
してるの細かい所まで作り上げてるの凄いと思う。
ストライダー飛竜は面白かった。ゲーメストで販売してた下敷き買ったし、コンプコミックスで発売された漫画版は今でも大切に保管してます。
影踏み弾避けまくる飛竜はカッコ良かった。

当時、ラストまで攻略できた人を見たことが有りませんでしたので、感動しています。
ぶら下がったり壁に貼り付いたりスライディングしたり…
どんな地形もゴリゴリ進む飛竜は当時衝撃だった
ストリートファイターと同様に人気すぎて殆どプレイできなかった。
いつも人だかりが凄いんだもの。
ゲーム中の音楽がかっこよかったんよね〜

飛竜の超人的強さを表現するいい演出でした。
よくみるとスーツが爆散する中、生身の人も小間切れ・・・
つくづく芸が細かい。
MD版とはグランドマスター討伐直後～EDが違うんですね。
アーケードの再現だけでなく、さらに味が増すようテコ入れ。
見比べることで飛竜開発チームの仕事ぶりを長い時を経て知ることが出来ました。
I've always really liked this one. In addition to the slightly surreal art style and the great voice acting (including the use of multiple languages to give the game a really solid sense of place), there's a lot of pioneering work done in terms of player movement and physics. The level design's heavy use of non-orthagonal angles is really nice.
Pretty well thought out in general, for the most part.

"Strider Hiryu" and "Lost World" are my favorite games of Capcom.

Strider was one of those games that proved that a true-to-arcade port could be done on Genesis.
There were subtle differences. The hardware of the genesis was not able to emulate the graphics of the arcade. You won't really notice it unless you were _really_ into the game had both games side by side.
oh yeah and the endings were different
hdjksa52 In the Genesis version, there's also a wider variety of music and some slowdown in places.
It's impressive for a home port in 1990 of an arcade game that wasn't even a year old yet.
oh yeah they did a great job at porting it over. In that era getting games that kicked ass in the arcade onto your home system was _not_ happening. You were buying a different game. However I enjoyed fine details in the arcade game that the genesis game lacked.
I never checked out the Mega Drive version. Are there emulators for it? Do you know?
Funny how the PAL Mega Drive version of Strider still says Capcom USA on the title screen.
This game was just so beautifully bizarre. I remember playing it in a laundromat back when I was a kid. Never did get past the second level.

I played this on genesis and couldn't get off the first level. I thought the game was broken and returned it to blockbuster. I just rented streetfighter 2 instead.
This game is a masterpiece of game design. The commands was so simple, and despite that there's no part that was similar to another, it's almost like a movie. First you're fighting an endless stream of wolves, then you must break a door while the wolves are attacking, then you're fighting a giant mech gorilla that explodes and set the floor on fire, then you're climbing a vertical well, all in the span of 1 minute.
It's an extravaganza, that's for sure.

Nice work! Love The Strider franchise! Recently acquired 1 and 2 for the PS2 and also Strider 3 for the PS3 which is absolutely stunning in itself! All of these games are stunning side-scrolling hack-and-slash beat em ups! Truly the Golden Age of video gaming in my opinion

The music was so awesome..
Great memories with this one, well the Megadrive one. It was one of the first games i played on that system, years later i played the arcade original on the Capcom collections on PS2 and its great except one major flaw, they left out half the music. Im not sure if its an early revision rom that they emulated or not but yeah all of stage 3 and 5 music is just gone.

The designer said that the only thing holding the full idea he had for strider, was the hardware was holding him back, from achieving with he envisioned.
So a REMAKE is needed now Uh? I wonder if he's still Alive though
I recently aquired a 112 games in one multicart for my 30 year old Genesis and this is on it. Strider and Contra Hard Corps are hands down my favorite!

一つ疑問がありますが、MAMEでプレイするストライダー飛竜は、一部ステージおよびデモのBGMが１ステージの同じ１曲のみ反復再生されると思います。
この動画からは、すべてのBGMが定常的に再生されていますが、その方法が気なります。
単純な好奇心ですみませんが、教えていただくことができますか？

BGM含めるなら、X68000版がひとつの完成形だと思います。グランドマスターを倒した時のBGMが全然違います、エンディングはアマゾン面の改変だけど1面が流れるよりはいいかと。
PRETTY MAZE 4年前なので解決してるとは思いますが初期バージョンはバグでそういう症状が出るそうですね。修正された後期バージョンではちゃんとバグは治ってるそうです。
昔かなりやり込んだけど、２面クリアが精いっぱいだった・・・

It's a shame that there's no such thing as an arcade emulator, I was able to beat the original arcade version but it was impossible for me to beat the Genesis version.

Means no death, a lot of people get confused over the term, so don't feel bad. It's pretty much a niche term hardcore gamers of the time used due to how dedicated they were to perfect a difficult game.
'Nomiss' doesn't necessary mean that they've perfected a difficult game, it just means that they finished it without dying.

Довольно странная игра с явным желанием устранить всё советское и всех женщин: 5-конечная звезда переделанная в 4-конечную, Казахская АССР, зачем-то упоминание Международной Демократическое Федерации Женщин (типа он напал на их логово?), уничтожение амазонок.
Разработчик игры явно был под чем-то.
