- This week has been crazy busy with working out taxes so I have made a vloggy type video showing my personal tech interests. I need help figuring out what Nintendo gaming device is the best. What are your thoughts?
- Наука та технологія
NOTE: Vlog part being filmed on iPhone SE at 60fps. I was testing out the SE camera and YUP, I see I would never use it again to VLOG. I really need a wide angle lens!
+Erica Griffin Ollo clip?
for the regular 3ds xl you'd have to import it unfortunately lol
maybe buy a wide angle lense thing for phones (~10$) because the quality is decent
large is better for games
PS vita.
New 3DS XL for sure! I had the original 3DS and original 3DS XL. They don't compare to the new one!
GAMEBOY ADVANCE SP ALL THE WAY!!!!
I notice the smallest things on my devices which sometimes drives me crazy. Totally feel you:)
3ds is great! I just moved from Vita and can't stop playing 3ds. Dunno why everyone says Zelda OOT is the best game, it's more frustrating for me with all the backtracking , puzzle and bland dungeon. Fire Emblem, Bravely Default, Kingdom Hearts, Mario Kart are amazing!
New 3ds with Fire Emblem Fates.
this!
My all time favourite handheld device has to be the PSP...
Not only do you have access to an impressive PSP game library, but there is an emulator basically for every home console PS1/N64 and older, and every handheld older than the DS. Heck it can boot Windows 95/98 and run DOS games too!!! xD
Had mine for 8 years now still alive and kicking :')
+Khaled Taha Yes!
i was in the same situation last month. I went with the nintendo 3DS XL. I grabbed one second hand for $130 and I love it. The SP you can easily find just gotta try it out before. I totally agree the gaming variety is amazing.
Definitely like the Vlog type videos!! very nice seeing you in some gaming!! Love to see more!! :)
(1) I like the red Nintendo 3 DS xl, as presented. Not sure if I would buy one, but it looks very nice.
(2) The resolution and depth of field of your recent videos, including this one, are just incredible! (I am watching this on a iPad Pro)
You should have gotten the Hitachi Wand. You would have really loved that handheld device!
+Frank C what makes you think I don't have one lol
+Erica Griffin Oh lord. Lol
+Frank C and i just googled that. thanks.
Hahaha. You're awesome. Can't wait for that video!
hahaha your awesome
I have the very same red New 3DS XL and love it. I'm also excited about NX. Btw, nice bloggy video Erica! I would love a few of this from time to time :)
Lol the profile pic 😂
+Jaden bourne My profile pic? What about it?
Do you have the Hyperkin Retron 5? If not you should get it. It's an absolute must for classic video gamers. Compatible with nine video game consoles and connects to modern TVs with HDMI.
I recently upgraded my regular 3DS (black) that I had since launch to a New 3DS XL (red). I held off for awhile because I didn't want to spend the $, but I got a good sale and trade in and got it for $100. Definitely happy I decided to upgrade. The 3D is actually usable with the head tracking and the bigger displays are awesome. My only complaint is because of the size it's more difficult to carry around if I take it out with me. I actually didn't even know about the different displays until this video, so I checked mine and luckily it looks like I got an IPS.
hello erica why not wait for nintendo's upcoming handheld ?
i have almost every gameboy / 3ds version .. and my fav is the gba SP model 101 .. with a nice flash card ..
you're going to love the new 3ds! me and my girlfriend got a pair last month and have put so many hours into fantasy life :)
great video Erica, I like old consoles, I picked up a Nintendo Gameboy SP with Zelda Links Awakening DX game not too expensive, I know there's more modern tech, its nice to delve into a bit of retro gaming once in a while.
1:17 That orange GBA SP looks great! I had a blue one but orange makes me want to play games on it. Wish I had thought of getting that one before although it probably wouldn't be easy to find that color!
What camera did you use to record this video? The quality looks amazing!
I have the same unit as your husband, and I've been wanting to upgrade, but I also want to upgrade my Wii to the NX, so I'm wishing for a new 3DS system that pairs nicely with the NX, and preferably a Zelda theme like my 3DS XL. In terms of build quality, I'd say it's really not all that different. The gold coating on the limited edition unfortunately marks up easily if you don't treat it with extra care, but it also disguises some of the flaws in the mold. Overall, I'd say the *new* version wins out because of specifications. I have heard the *new* screen color is a little washed out though, so I'm actually hoping the next iteration will improve on that.
I was happy with my black 3DS OG for years. Beating Ocarina of Time on it was fun. I sold it though. I think I want an XL.
I bought my N3DS XL from Japan a year ago. I like it a lot because of the C stick and I didn't need the add on. The faster load times is very good too. the camera is a lot better. I have convinced a friend to buy one (an American model of course) because he liked what I had to say about it.
I had the original nintendo DS since its launch in 2004 until i sold it in 2010. That handheld was very sturdy and very well made, i loved it. I saw its successors and they were all cheaply built, so I stayed with my original DS (until i sold it). I miss my DS, have lots of memories of it :(
I noticed they still don't include Tax on the PRICETAGS!!! in the U.S. like the REST OF THE WORLD!!
I like the smaller unit. I love plate swapping for cuztomization.
I have a launch NN3DS XL, and I have some big issues with build quality over time. the sides of the back plate where I grip the console, you point to it w./your pinky at 5:45, both those sides the top glossy layer are peeling away. it's really gross. also the 3D is better, but sometimes it just goes out of focus randomly when I know I didn't move my eyes and things get blurry for a second or 2 before going back to normal. at least with the older 3DSs when you found the sweet spot it stayed there. also if you wear glasses the "smart 3D" has trouble finding your eyes sometimes, probably an issue with the IR being blocked by my glasses. try playing in 3D in low light and see if it happens.
I don't know anything of the NX, but as for GBA SP, it's simply the best device for Gameboy games. For DS games I have the smaller black "new 3DS". Feature wise it's like its bigger brother, but it has colored buttons. By the way, the tracking camera doesn't watch you if you turn 3D off, as you can tell by its light (if it's dark and you see that LED, it's mostly infrared). This saves some battery time too.
Totally agree about the build quality. Ever since the NDSi came out, everything after has felt like it has a very shoddy build. The DSi looks and feels like the best built NDS.
The frame rate in this video is so silky smooth and lovely to watch, I don't know why I like videos being at 60 FPS, but I certainly do.
loved your gameboy micro review. You should do a PSP 3000 review
I have the New 3ds XL and I'm loving it. The bigger screen is definitely worth it!
Definitely like to see these type of vids occasionally. I never had a 3DS. I did have a purple Advance SP and LOVED it. Especially after I could put emulators on it. hehe I got the DS when it came out on launch day and had an OK time with it. Then a month later I got the PSP on it's launch day and was blown away. I loved the PSP so much that the DS just sat there gathering dust, so I sold it on eBay and never bothered with any of the Nintendo handhelds after that. I wish the PSP and Vita had done better in sales.
+Phil Nolan Same here I had a DS sold it to get a psp. now I got a vita too unfortunately Sony didn't and still isn't supporting the vita, that's why it's not doing so well :/
LoneWolfGamer
I thought I heard it was the third parties that weren't making enough games for it (and PSP)
Phil Nolan PSP did pretty well in my opinion maybe the last few years not however the vita doesn't have many first party games if it had more then it would sell more unites and then there would be more 3rd party games too also the memory cards are still expensive till this day
Got a dead pixel right out of the box on mine too... And it's a Majora Collectors Edition :(
Anyway, I would recommend keeping your 3DS but hacking it, (if you haven't updated it), this way you can do about everything with it. Including removing the stupid region lock.
I used to have the original 3ds, then I upgraded to the New Nintendo 3ds XL, and I LOVE IT! I don't know how I could go back to a smaller size!
I have both the new 3ds and new 3ds XL, the small one is great for on the go and the big one is great for home use with better gaming immersion in Ocarina of Time and Resident Evil Revelations, they are both great!!
They all feel sort of cheap and wobbly as you put it :)
But after a few swaps you can find a one that is less wobbly. Also once you go XL you cant go back. The smaller one also has smaller battery.
SO now to games. There are allot of great 3DS games, i just finished Braverly default that was awesome. I like to buy my games of cartridges for some reason myself.
So all and all i do enjoy my "new" 3DS XL but i never use the 3D and also i end up turning off the WIFI since it eats up my battery.
So my vote goes to the new 3DS XL. Color wise its very personal. I have the Zelda version.
NX, well who knows what it will be, either way there are sooo many good games on the 3DS already so either way you will be enjoying this even when the NX comes out. I'm one of those people who buys every single console so even if i will be getting the NX i know i will be enjoying my 3DS still.
I also have the Vita but since you are focusing on 3DS i wont go there :D
Go for the vintage CASIO : Western Bar! That piece is a relic!
You could always buy a DS lite and an R4 flashcard, load it up with roms if that's you're thing. You can also play actual GBA games on the system. They usually run cheaper than the AGS-101 models on the aftermarket too which is a plus.
new 3ds xl over the rest. The camera helps a lot with the 3d feature, NFC amiibo reader, and the games are easier to get a hold of @ reasonable prices. But then again... if you like to collect games, i'd go the gba sp route first. With console modding videos/3d printing on the rise, those "must have" gba sps and games are getting pricey.
I got myself a Gameboy SP this morning at the swap meet (but it was the one with the junk backlight) and Pokemon Emerald for $30, and I also have a 3DS XL, new 3DS, and a bunch of other DS portable consoles. I just can't let go of the various (Pokemon) games I can play. Plus, I like physical buttons for gaming, and not touchscreens.
I have the New Nintendo 3DS XL and I have every old schol Nintendo game I could get my hands on. I have the exact same model that you just purchased and I love it. Also, you could do what my husband did and buy the Happy Home Designer bundle to get the smaller type DS. He gave me the game and bought different face plates.
the small New 3ds is not usually carried in stores, because they are version exclusive bundles, so far they have only come out as a Pokemon Red and Blue bundle and an animal crossing happy home designer bundle with the small New 3ds and are not sold separately like the new 3ds XL. I personally have a new 3ds XL and really enjoy using it. even if the plastic is alittle bit to much of a finger print magnetic for my taste. also you should be able to find alot of the GB, GBA, and DS library as downloadable content on the New 3ds and maybe even nes, and SNES games. Hopefully this helps! ( tbh you can't go bad the either, and (maybe just buy both 😆))
Love the Triforce symbol on the right device!
if you haven't looked it up yet, the smaller new 3ds has only been released as special bundles in the US. I, myself, effortlessly picked up a pokemon one launch day because almost no one knew about target stocking it.
New 3DS is amazing especially since it get's plenty of games and I love my Vita but it's up to you in that department. I think if you can find one cheap used, the games it has are awesome like Persona 4 Golden and a bunch of indies. However, I like my little obscure handhelds like th eGPD XD for emulation. I just bought a Raspberry Pi and a bunch of parts to create my own with a custome Lego case! Soooo It's kinda dependent on taste.
The sp is the greatest gaming console ever made
said no one ever.
+SlipperyScope I remember when portable game systems weren't consoles... the PS4 and One are consoles.
My personal experience with the New 3DS is great. Using the 3D effect is so much better than the old 3DSes...yeah. Though sometimes it works so well that I kind of have to take a break from it for a bit just so my eyes don't get messed up lmao. When I first got the regular 3DS, I played it so much that I started seeing my laptop screen as 3D. :v Don't ask. It was weird tho. Anyway, yeah. Great handheld.
I suggest the New 3DS XL. If there's a NEW regular size get that if it suites your fancy. The 3DS does a LOT of previous handheld games and it really has the best games.
I miss playing animal crossing. Yes erica this vlog type video of you is fun
You should have waited for the NX. If rumors are to be believed, the nx is going to be a 2 in 1 gaming device (handheld and a dedicated machine that hooks up to the cloud).
That red actually looks a lot better than I thought it would.
Raised edges and dead pixels is not picky. I was with you in the LG review and appreciate your attention to detail. I could live with the raised edges but a dead pixel is an immediate return.
Yes! Can't wait for more gaming related videos
I love your vids!!
I'd say the 3DS XL is probably gonna be a bit better but it is unfortunate about the quality, I've only had PSPs and I loved those, I've been thinking of getting a Vita but Nintendo wise I think the best bet might be the XL
Did you end up also getting the Gameboy advanced SP?
I have the 1st gen 3DS, but I'm planning to get a new XL.
Also I have an old GBA SP, still loving it :)
Gameboy Advance SP AGS101 edition
I have the new 3ds xl and I am very happy with it :D Play a lot on it
I like ur picky style!
Hi Erica I hace the 3DS XL NES Edition and I personally use it more than the new 3DS. I just love the design better.
Can't Nintendo a higher resolution display in the 3DS (XL)? I mean even the Nintendo DS had a display where you could count the pixels and you still can on the new 3DS XL apparently.
The Gameboy Advance SP can play every Gameboy game from every generation giving you an absolutely huge library of games to choose from. You can't go wrong.
Got me a limited pokemon new 3ds since the hinge on my old 3ds xl broke. I like it very much especially the size since its more pocketable. Snappy and great display (IPS). Suggest you get it instead of the xl since you have smaller hands.
The regular New 3DS is not available in NA unless it is bundled with Animal Crossing or the Pokémon 20th Anniversary. It would have cost you more than that New 3DS XL if you got the small one anyway because they tend to be rare and only sold on eBay. You have to be EXTREMELY lucky to find them in-store. Luckily, I got the Pokémon 20th Anniversary one through pre-order back when it was available. Now, that model will roughly go $300+, with only a few being below that price point.
An Apple computer. I dare you.
You mean a Mac
I personally skipped getting the original 3DS/XL, mainly because Pokemon Black/White was for the DS/Lite/i and not 3DS-specific (and I ended up skipping Black 2/White 2), and waited for the 2DS to launch with X/Y (pre-ordered a 2DS, Pokemon X & Pokemon Y, came to just $20 AUD more than a 3DS on its own without games).
After getting the 2DS and enjoying the way it felt in-hand compared to the DS Lite & DSi (the L/R bumpers on the 2DS are MUCH nicer than on the DS Lite/i, no need to cramp my fingers to hit them, my fingers naturally wanted to rest there), I got the New 3DSXL with OR/AS partially so I could contrast and compare it to the DSi & 2DS, and partially to make trading Pokemon between Gen 6 games much easier.
only bundle available is happy home edition the pokemon one witch I bought is sold out not abailable anywhere unless purchase from scalpers on amazon
Unpopular opinion but if you are interested in the Vita, you can pay $60 a year for playstation plus and they consistently have 2 games for each platform for free (ps3/ps4/vita). If not for that, just get the new 3DS as your portable device.
Are you excited for the NX?
Hi Erika, bad news for you your audio is quite low on all the late videos, check your camera or recording gear.
BTW: Best option is N3DS XL, thinking on future compatibilities on games or the same NX. Regards from Colombia. XoXo.
Coming from a red original 3DS I can say my red new 3DS XL is DEFINITELY an upgrade xD
My old red SP that I can't find anywhere was really amazing though :') probably thought my favorite color was red xD
Nah it's orange
I would still go ahead and get a game boy sp because the eshop really doesn't have a lot right now and Sps aren't expensive. I have the new Nintendo 3ds and a game boy sp and I play both of them regularly.
Also I have had both the new 3ds xl and the smaller sized one. I kept the larger one for games like Fire Emblem fates and Xenoblade chronicles because it had an ips screen. My one gripe about the new 3ds xl is the finish on it. I prefer the older model but I know a lot of people say the new one looks more sleek.
The PS Vita is an AMAZING handheld that I bought about a week ago. there are tons of Indies and Japanese titles plus there are a plethora of amazing fighting and shooters.
Until you realize that that is about 95% of the games on the device...
new 3ds doesn't come out in us market... it's only sold in Japan and if I'm not mistaken, in Europe as well... but not in us, which is a bummer since I was looking for it and I only could get the XL...
Erica, I really think if you started doing some minor things on the side such as building PCs and stuff. there is a huge demand for that, and with linus not doing too hot right now, it's something to consider.
The New 3DS only comes with certain bundles in America (Animal Crossing, etc). The XL is the standard unit stateside.
good choice getting the new 3ds xl it's a wonderful system with a great library of games l don't think you will regret it. the 3d is wonderful & the larger screen is in my opinion the way to go, my wife & l each have 1 & play animal crossing every night before bed. as for the NX goes no concrete news on it & it's looking like a home console not a handheld but who knows it's nintendo, no one truly knows what coming from them but it is always good.
bout 200 cores chillin at the NOC ...28 blades all on..boy its loud in my room. preductive physics and weather claculations hehe
I was going to suggest a GB Micro except I remembered that you already have one. I wish I could find my chargers! I can't charge either of mine. :(
if your going for an SP you would want an the backlit one over the front lit (normal) I believe they are the aes 101 they sell for more but are worth it the backlit also have two brightness levels while the front lit is only on off.
The Nintendo 3DS XL is my favorite
that's because there is no regular size new 3ds being release in the states. at least not as normal release. which is why you cant find since they do not exist. if you find one it is definitely the special bundle from what i know there are only 2 ever release till today one which is animal crossing home maker edition and the pokemon 20th anniversary edition.
The smaller new 3ds didnt release in the states until recently and to my knowledge they're only available in the special edition units like the pokemon 20th anniversary and the animal crossing happy home designer one.
I got the Zelda tri force edition from game stop. it's gold and gray build quality and finish are superb. the thing has been flawless in performance. check it out. get rid of the crappy red one and get ur self a special edition one. you will see the difference right away!
The regular size 3ds pokemon bundle was released in February and they now are going for $300 ish on ebay
I had a GBA SP (NES edition) when I was 8 and it was stolen a few months after I got it, this video makes me miss that little thing so much right now :'(
I enjoyed every Nintendo console that came before the Wii and I think they are still solid choices even though I'm on pc now.
Do you like the ps vita? Playstation is never region lock, I love my little ps vita it's beautiful
and damn does that zelda 3ds xl look good
your hasbend one is coool
What about going big: a home-made steam machine with the wonderful Steam Controllers!
I would go gba sp all the way I need to upgrade mine for the brighter screen It used to be all beat up withthe red shell but I did a shell replacement with a blue one and looks brand new I still have some classic yugioh games like world wide edition and the 2004 version.
I freaking love the 3ds XL ...never got bored of it ...got rid of the PS Vita . one of my best buys .
get the SP I have one and love it.
You would have had a better chance of finding the new 3DS regular size at GameStop since they were the ones who released the animal crossing bundle :)
gba has a humongous game library btw so definitely dabble in the spring
I got a custom color original Gameboy advanced sp. it's lime green with white buttons . customs are good to get
Even though Nintendo has great titles, their hardware is awful! That 3ds screen resolution in 2016 is ridiculous
I got the new XL, wish they'd it's great when I have a bag, too big otherwise
