The hiking trail seems to be heavily used bu snow-shoers, I only met one person on the way up and down. But the trail was broken in, which was nice. I suggest picking a day with softer snow than what I had. : )
Thank you for sharing this. I've always wondered why there's no sign of the legendary fire-tower from the so-called "summit" of the ski area. Way to earn those turns. Do you regret not taking the chairlift for the first third?
Re the regret -- actually I planned it this way. When I got in the parking, the sky was still black and full of stars, and when i started the climb, the sun just peaked over the horizon, and except a few snowcats, i was the only one on the mountain. That was really nice and worth it. If you take the chair, it opens at 9am, I think, so that is definitely an option as well.
