    Every time I listen to this song, it brings me to one of the most beautiful places I have ever been emotionally and spiritually. Thank you William for sharing this dong that has brought consistent joy to my life for many years. I am excited that I can now play it as well.

    I've been listening to this piece,actually the entire album for almost 30 years...the cello piece in the original recording could probably be one of the most beautiful and moving pieces of music ive ever heard

      Eddie Ford my favorite album out of my vinyl collection, got it new for 5$ including his other albums. The better the audiophile you are, the better it sounds

      Cello implied the version from Passage, a 1981 album. The original version was solo guitar only. You can find it on the album It Takes A Year, from 1977. I highly recommend it.

      Wow. I see only 2 guitars on stage-many of his songs have different, quite exotic tunings. Did he spend alot of time tunning?

    Thats exactly my point i am stating. Whos heard of any amazing guitarist at anytime. Name any amazing guitar player to the average person who listens to music they won't have a clue. Even jimi hendrix said in his last interview something along the lines of. Theres many talented people out there right in front of everyone, but if they don't have a gimmick then most people think they don't know a thing about music. stating they don't hear music they see it with gimmicks and thats how it is rated.

    Still, after all that, the tuning really wasn't spot on. Being a guitar player myself, and having done pieces in altered tunings - including some of Will's - I KNOW how hard it is to do this and get the pitches just right. Can't even imagine trying to concentrate on it while also entertaining the audience during the process.
    The truly amazing part, however, and what reflects the genius of the man - is simply being able to REMEMBER all this stuff - not just what the tunings are for each piece, but then remembering the frets for everything. I can't personally conceive of it without having some sort of tab in front of me for the music. Having been grounded in traditional tuning and music theory my entire life, it's truly a paradigm shift to even conceive of approaching the guitar this way. I mean, with what Will is doing, we're not just talking about dropping the low E string down a whole step! Will is a composer and player I deeply admire. The music itself is timeless. Pieces sound as fresh and appealing now as they did when written.

      I agree. Thanks for the note. Hedges used to do it by ear. A different tuning for every tune, without a tuner. Amazing.

    • @KSguitarmusic
      @KSguitarmusic 4 роки тому +1

      @@rlutge Hedges was on a totally different level than Ackerman- and most of us for that matter! As Will said in reference to Michael during one of the "Hawk Circle" live videos...he was a guitarist "from a different planet". I saw Michael in concert in the early 80s - astounding. As you said, whipping those string pegs around in no time while talking to the audience - he was really something else. Different background entirely. Good vocalist too. Michael had formal training, having gone to several colleges for music. Multi-instrumentalist.
      Ackerman's gift, though, also extends into the studio. He has the ear for it and has really helped alot of people move their careers along. Over the years he encouraged me several times to record at Imaginary Roads, but I just can't see putting the money into it (very expensive), not having a performing career to justify the time and expense. Were I a much younger guy with an up and coming career where having Will's name attached to my albums would be of value, that'd be a different story.
      I will say, however, that of the two, Will has had the stronger influence on my own playing and composition. Wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that Hedges' stuff is simply too damn hard to play? LOL
